Made an appointment on Monday, told them I needed a wheel alignment and two front tires, I had previously bought tires there and they were familiar with my car. I was to bring my car in Wednesday as early as possible. So after giving them two days notice, they didn't have the tires on hand, and after paying $170 for a "inspection" was told that I needed an alignment, and new tires, and a back tire only had 5 psi... Strangely they assumed that I would leave my car in the parking lot until the next morning. (unlocked, as I discovered) but needing transportation, I left. After driving a few minutes, I checked my tire pressure and found it still had 5 psi. So I called them and asked if they put air in the tire and the response was no because we thought you were going to replace them. (but they didn't have them, even though they had two days notice to get at least two)... returned the next morning. I asked the owner as he arrived to work Thursday morning if it was reasonable to be without transportation for 30+ hours for a couple of tires and a wheel alignment? He replied that it wasn't uncommon! I don't think that is a reasonable standard for any shop! Take your car elsewhere. Literally anywhere's. Feed a backyard mechanic beers on the clock and he'd probably finish it quicker and still do a better job. Nothing but misleading communication and lies from these guys. Paid $1000 to DIAGNOSE a misfire, which should be a couple hours of work tops. They bill extra hours and don't do the work that they say they will. Wanted to charge an extra 1.5 hours of labor to put my car back together on top of the 8 hours of labor they billed for a simple diagnosis. That simple diagnosis got completed at another shop in 3 hours and i didn't have to wait around for 2 weeks before they touched my car. They also yanked fuses from my car for no reason and left them hidden in the interior (a sick joke for the less mechanically inclined!?) No response from them when i asked why they even opened my fuse box. A shame to the squamish community that we have shady shops like this in operation. Save yourself the headache, keep some cash in your pockets and get your car running quicker by bringing it ANYWHERE other then Newport Auto read more

Based on BCAA's Certified Inspectors list and these Yelp reviews, I arranged for Simon and Dave at Newport to perform a pre-purchase inspection on a Squamish vehicle. My initial review of the vehicle showed it to be in quite good condition, with some owner-disclosed issues, but very much worth a closer look. I intended to use the inspection to negotiate the final purchase price. They appeared to be a well-regarded, trusted local shop. I paid $130 for the inspection, but I've learned that specific inspection work wasn't undertaken - obvious and key deficiencies that would be discovered by opening the hood. Everything on the form was marked as 'pass' except an obvious front tire mis-match and a steering box problem originating from the tire that was wrongly diagnosed as a steering box play. Immediately upon driving the vehicle after the inspection I noticed a rough idle and lack of power, and an engine indicator light. There was no mention of this problem on the inspection report. When I asked Simon about this, he said that it wasn't driven at full highway speeds just 70km/h, and he hadn't looked under the hood himself. He also offered to scope the car for free, providing I drive back up to Squamish - or at least halfway, where he would meet me. I could see he was trying to help out, but what happened next was the red flag that told me to stay away. Arranging to return the vehicle to have the work redone wasn't possible in the time I needed to fix the problem, so I turned to a few internet auto chat rooms and learned that an engine light diagnosis can be performed by turning the key on and off three times so that a P code appears in the odo. P0308! Misfire: check spark plugs, wires and distributor. I undertook the simple task of looking under the engine cover to examine the spark plug wires but his was hard to do, not because they where hard to find, but because most of them had been EATEN AWAY BY RODENTS. It was amazing that the vehicle was running at all, but it was most amazing to me that a certified shop would, you know, not notice this kind of thing - badly chewed spark plug wires. I posted photos up top and sent them to Simon for their wall so they know what to look for next time. Here is the current list of things missed or incorrectly passed by Newport: -Rough idle and poor acceleration - MISSED -Engine warning light - MISSED -8 badly rodent-chewed spark plug wires - MISSED -Cracked pollution control hose - MISSED -badly clogged and filthy air filter marked as PASS -Overfilled crankcase - MISSED I didn't expect service above and beyond. I did expect Newport Auto to find what most a grade 12 auto mech students would have discovered. I'm quite curious why a pre-purchase inspection by a shop accredited by the BCAA, ICBC and the BBA, wouldn't have missed or passed such obvious, visible issues. A lingering concern is that my purchase offer was negotiated based on Newport Auto's pre-inspection report, and I'm frustrated that I didn't have the opportunity to introduce these items during the sale. It's true that these items aren't exactly huge opportunities for negotiation, but they easily could have been - especially the engine light, and what of those items marked PASS on their so-called inspection check-list may have been rushed, missed or weren't actually inspected. I'd like to suggest that they take a moment to seriously reflect on the quality of their work and their capacity to supervise others in the quality of their work. I will be sharing my experience with the BCAA, ICBC as well as the BBB - who have accredited this garage - and I wanted to share this with the wider YELP community, as this is where I first learned of their 'outstanding service. I don't write a lot of reviews but I had to write one after the disgusting service I received on multiple occasions from this so called "best auto service" mechanic in Squamish. They "added value" to my oil change without my asking for all the extra crap they sell to increase their revenue on what is a simple job. They mis-quoted me on a set of winter tires, made me wait 10 days to have them fitted but forgot to order them, then made me wait another week, then added extra fees to the cost that weren't quoted (I clearly asked for a COMPLETE quote) to put some extra sting in the experience. They gave me rude stares and attitude-filled condescending responses when I asked questions about the poor service provided and then when asked over the phone about the "premium" oil that was put in the car, (I only wanted to know what brand it was) I was given more smart-ass attitude and pushy, rude resistance to answering the question, before finally explaining to me that the oil is in fact a bulk produced oil of a name I had never heard before. I've since found another mechanical service centre in Squamish who are friendly, helpful, honest, welcoming and forgiving of the fact that we aren't all car experts, which is the exact reason the mechanical business exists. We won't be back to Newport, and I felt I should share my experience here so that perhaps others don't have a similar experience of being made to feel an inch tall while having money ripped from your wallet. read more

I only wish I could give this place less than one star. I echo everything the other reviewers are saying. We've paid hundreds on "inspections" and "analysis" that had nothing to do with the reason we brought the car in. They weren't always like this, by the way, but a new owner has changed things... Now they perform work without getting the go-ahead from owners and then charge for it. They never call with updates on the work as promised. They do half-assed jobs on things like oil filters and coolant caps that break weeks later. Not only that, there's always some obscure $300 "test" to determine what the problem is even when you give specific instructions as to what you want. (For example: you do not need a test when I've brought the car in for an oil change.) They told me once they needed the car engine "to be cool" so that they could run a $400 test. This was at 4pm. I had dropped the car off at 8am. Really, Louie? They treat customers like absolute idiots and do it with a huge smile. We were loyal to them but over time we began to have our suspicions, and it just got worse and worse over this year... we feel absolutely robbed. read more

This weekend I was in Squamish for the Music Festival, and on Saturday morning my Ranger's clutch blew. I don't know what I would have done without these guys. They took my truck in, diagnosed it, and got my approval to start working on it all within the hour. They worked very fast so that I was able to enjoy the rest of my weekend, pick up my truck first thing Monday morning, and get home safely. The price was fair, and the people were great. I don't live in Squamish, but if I did these would be my go-to guys. read more
