The rooms in this hotel have somewhat dated decor but are large and clean with comfortable beds. It's definitely not luxurious but at £50 a night you couldn't really ask for more - and you do get the use of a brown 1980s trouser press, as well as a travel kettle, assorted teas and custard creams, into the bargain. The breakfasts are good too.
There are some downsides. First of all it's quite a walk into the centre of York. And the weekend we stayed the boiler broke, leaving our room a hot water free zone which was not ideal.
