It's been a bit over 2 years since our home addition work with Newcastle completed. We contracted with them to build a ~700sqft addition and pool to our home. I've been in the real estate industry for about 15 years and we were demanding clients. I sucked it up for two months but in the end it was more than I could manage. We wanted to do everything we could to avoid surrendering him to an already taxed system of animal rescue/support. We were heartbroken and desperate to find a home that was exceptional and fully aware of how to properly care for a high drive dog, no small task. Lex was the first person who came to mind even though it had been a couple of years since we last communicated. He immediately jumped into action and reached out to his extensive network of animal lovers. We received several well vetted leads for interested adopters that ranged from lifelong Doberman owners to professional dog trainers. In the end, Henry found his forever mom and is adjusting to his new home and community better than we could have ever dreamed. Lex once again gave his time freely with no gain other than the knowledge that he could help a family and dog in need. His enthusiasm for the work he does is inspiring and what makes me proud to be part of a city that is known for being community centered, open and welcoming. Newcastle built our home (2022) and after about 6 months walls were filled with moisture and mold. Required full mold remediation, 8 weeks of remediation and repair, we were not even allowed to access the home for 4 weeks. The water leaks were discovered before we even closed on the house but they did not investigate the source of the leak - just said it was from wet sanding the garage floor. It was actually caused because they punctured the waterproof seal all along the large 2nd floor deck when they drilled through it to install railings. When remediation was complete, their painters caused a major fire in the garage by leaving piles of combustible chemical soaked rags next to cans of paint thinner resulting in drywall replacement, electrical rewiring, melted epoxy floor and melted garage door opener & sensors. We had to disclose the mold remediation when we sold the home which drove the market value down. It took them 2 years to build our house even though they started and finished many other homes while they were building ours. They already had our contract and money so they focused on quickly building spec homes while the market was still hot. read more

Let me just start off by saying in the end we are very happy with our new home. We love in a great location and the price is very competitive with other comparables in the area. But the process to get their was sometimes painful. We new going into it that we would have a lot of headaches to deal with as with any home buyers will tell you. We decided to go with Newcastle after looking for prebuilt houses but none of them were a good fit or they went off the market to quickly. At the beginning Lex was great, told us we could get exactly what we wanted at our price point. After months of talking and eventually being ready to show us lots he found us the perfect lot within our budget in the our top location. In April of 2012 they broke ground with a definite move in date to be before October 31st, 2012. Everything was going great at first although we had gone months without making any decisions. We were busy with our own jobs and checked in on the house here and there to watch the progress and all was well. Then around July we had to make a slew of decisions immediately, tile, flooring, house color, faucets, etc. We learned later that these decisions should have been made during the design process... but that didn't happen. The tile we liked wasn't in stock so we decided on one we looked at online because of the urgency of the decision needing to be made. (as a side note we ended up changing it out after we purchased the house because we hated the look, don't pick tile online!). We were told at the beginning they would let us know when we needed to make these decisions but we didn't realize we would only have 24 hours to do so. When we had problems we would go to Lex but he never really knew what was going on and while Bud always took care of us he seemed to get a little frustrated with our critiques of things that we didn't like. A lot of changes needed to be made but again, Bud always did take care of us. Many mistakes were made along the way. For example, we selected our light fixtures in a meeting in person... Judy printed out photos and we picked one out. A few days later she emailed us and said she couldn't remember which ones we selected and sent us websites and told us to pick one. We picked one or two that we were okay with and she said we couldn't pick those because they were the wrong light fixtures (hallogen?). Okay, so we picked a few others, "any of the following will be okay" we said. When they arrived at the house they were not the ones we had selected. So she ordered "the one we selected", when we saw them they were clearly not (once again!) but she insisted that they were.... but the one in the master bath didn't even match the one in the guest bath, which was also different than the one in the half bath.... At this point we were sick of Judy's many mistakes and requested her to not be on our project anymore. By this point Jim had been added to the New Castle team and was our main point of contact, I think the rest of the team were sick of dealing with us at this point (for the record Jim was great and took care of us along the way). We definitely got that vibe even if it might not have been true, they were at the very least getting too busy to keep up with us. We were hoping to have the house finished by the end of September and it was looking likely but after the punch list our inspector gave us it pushed things back a little. The concrete flooring is the last thing that they do and after telling them multiple times we were going to be closing on Oct 9th or 10th (not sure) they still weren't planning on having it sealed until the day of closing. They were surprised when we said we were planning on moving in the day of closing. They ended up changing the day of the sealing and it was ready by the 9th, although thanks to the bankers we didn't close until after a work trip on the 17th. After we closed we did not received one e-mail or any correspondance from New Castle until November 20th requesting that we change the gas to be in our name. We were in Guatemala at the time for work and had limited access to emails so we did not respond to this email and were not intending to do so until we were back in the country. On November 27th 10am they followed up; we responded at 1pm that we were out of the country and would deal with this by the end of the week since the bill was not due until the Saturday. They canceled our service anyway within the day without telling us. This was our experience in a nutshell. Communication is key in any business when dealing with clients. Up until we signed paperwork, the communication was good but it soon broke down when we got into the building process. They were not very organized (and even admitted to it) when it came to the customization part of the custom home. They had some growing pains along the way and we were stuck in the middle of it. Several problems with building contractors, subcontractors, and problematic work practices in neighborhood. Neighbors on either side of multiple builds have been negatively impacted from damaged property to blocked driveways. We have tried speaking with contractors, and contacting Newcastle directly by phone and email many times to resolve issues, but the business continues to be unresponsive. Another review mentions this as well (of course esp. after they already have your money). Frustrating and unprofessional. Based on the shoddy work we can see and their practices, I definitelywould not recommend purchasing one of their homes. read more

In November of 2012 I moved into a house built by Newcastle Homes. The house is wonderful. Even though we watched the house grow over the months of construction, the moment when we used the keys to enter together, (my wife and I), was just great. We wandered around, happy as clams, turning on the water, turning on and off the switches, playing with fan remotes. We felt and acted just like children. Leading up to that moment was months of hard work by Bud and Judy. I cannot thank them enough! The process was relatively simple: plan approval, floor, fixture, cabinet choices were presented and we chose. The only delays were caused directly by either "the city" or the weather. The longest delays were always caused by "the city" during the permitting process, (I just read somewhere that initial permits are now causing a wait of 2 months), and during the inspection process. But those hassles are done with--and everyday we smile when we come home to our beautifully built, lovely home! Thank you Newcastle! Thank you Bud and Judy!
