If you know what to expect, this is a great store. For instance, in spite of their moniker, most "Newbury Comics" locations, barring the original, don't carry much in the way of actual comic books. However, if you love manga like I do, then very few regular book stores come close to this selection of manga in one place. It's still not the best selection, and if you're looking for something very specific that isn't super famous you might be disappointed, but if for whatever reason you don't want to shop online this seems like one of the better options. The comic store near Union Square in Manhattan is sort of like a Mecca, but if you can't get down there this will definitely do. This is also a great place to shop for comic/manga accessories like shirts, stuffies etc or if you're on your way to a party or something and want to bring some fun toys/favors. They have lots of gimmicky things like really tiny super soakers and funny variations of games. Basically, if you're a nerd or dork, like me, and are in need of nerd/dork gear as one is from time to time, come on over. If you're a super nerd or super dork, you might need something better. read more

I'm not much into comic books, and when I say that I mean I used to reach Archie when I was younger and that's about it. I had no knowledge of Newbury Comics prior to it coming to The Westchester, however my brother was excited for it to arrive so I thought it would be worth checking out. Originally based in Boston, I quickly discovered that Newbury Comics is much more than comic books. They also have a selection of t-shirts, magnets, pins, socks, vinyl records, and novelties all aimed at retro and pop culture. I've picked up a few items from here, but I also really like coming here to just browse - there's a lot of eye candy. You can definitely find things here you cannot find anywhere else in Westchester. I mean, where else in the area can I get my supply of Golden Girls magnets and Italian cookie fun socks? Reviews here say that for being a comic book store they don't come through with the comics, but I'm okay with that since I'm not into them. I almost feel like Newbury Comics would fit more on Mamaroneck Ave rather than in a higher-end mall, but they have a beautiful, open space so I'm not complaining. Staff has always been very friendly and helpful when I've visited, so that's always a plus. Overall, Newbury Comics is an awesome place, and adds a bit of offbeat fun to White Plains. read more

As some other reviewers have pointed out, it's not just for comics books. But I don't think that's a bad thing. I can shop here with my brother and there's something for both of us. There's posters, records, manga, t-shirts, kpop albums, figures, mugs, hats, and plushies. Last few times I've gone for some of the blind bags. I'm trying to complete my collection of My Hero stickers. The times I went they were on sale and still were half off when I went again this week which was really nice. I also got a sailor moon figure and was able to get 20% off because the box was damaged. It's also nice how often they have manga deals like buy one get one 50% off. Personally I get mine digitally but friends of mine always go when there's a manga sale. I saw some other people saying that it's similar to a Barnes and Nobel and I don't necessarily disagree when it comes to books. But they have a larger selection when it comes to everything else. Plus the employees have been super nice with any questions I've had -- like asking for a discount on sailor moon or where I can find a certain product in the store. I wouldn't buy any of the squishmallows from here though. They're very overpriced. I think for some smaller collectibles it's a really nice store. I also have to be fair and say that there was a figure I thought was a bit overpriced and when I went yesterday was marked down to what I thought was fair. It wasn't marked down because of damage either. It looked perfect. So I think they're changing quite a bit between visits which is a nice feeling read more

As a comic book store this place leaves a lot to be desired. A pretty large space with a small area devoted to actual comic books. It's more of a pop culture store in the vein of Spencer's or Think Geek. Just more expensive. They have a large selection of Pop figures, vinyl records, t-shirts, and knick knacks. Overall this place was really more of a disappointment. read more

Love this store !! Every time my fiancé and I come here, the staff warmly greets us. It's one of those stores, you come in just to browse and you can walk away with a billion items. This store has a lot of pop culture items ... my only compliant is that is does NOT carry a lot of comics. But it does have a large manga section. And lots of pusheen. And who doesnt love cat stuffed animals. read more

Since I have no use for comics, I have a positive experience with this store. Their vinyl selection is what keeps me coming back here. I bought Lady Gaga's Born This Way LP and Madonna's Like A Prayer LP here. These are two titles I have yet to see anywhere else. Both play really well and both were on promotion. Like others have said. The comic section is underwhelming, if you're going to shop here then do so for the pops. Everything else is mostly novelty items from random movies and shows. If you do plan on shopping here, everything here with the exception of the graphic novels which cannot have their prices changed are marked up. I found blu rays here that are priced at 29.99 yet you can go to amazon and get them for 14.99. You have pops being marked up all the way to 13.99 depending on the style. Also there are no chances of finding a chase here. The boxes are gone through before hand and only the common pops will be put on display. The chase pops will remain in a chase display case. They will then mark this chase up to 19.99 or higher depending on the series it's from. Regardless if the chase has become rare or not. Unfortunately Newbury comics is a comic store that doesn't really specialize in much, a casual geek experience for the mass shoppers that come to the Westchester mall and do not know any better than to pay the ridiculous prices this place charges on items. AVOID!!!!! STAY AWAY!!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!! This "was" my favorite store at the Westchester Mall. Purely because of the merchandise and the old school feel of the place (concert t's, cd's, movie posters, etc). I've always found the staff to be aloof, disinterested and unfriendly, but hey, they're all kids. But when an the assistant manager gives me, a paying customer, the dirtiest look because I request a shopping bag? I'm not having that. The tiniest bag he used could not hold the multiple posters I bought. So no common sense and a major attitude on top. It's a piece of plastic? Please avoid this store which is overpriced to boot. 24 dollars for cheap Chinese polyester t'shirts. RIP OFF!!! If you do go, see what you like, and please go directly to Amazon. read more

How is this a comics store??? It sucks. I walked in today and was very disappointed. Whyyyyyyyyyy are you selling backpacks at a comic store??? Their comic section was lame. Their figures section was lame. It was more like a nicknack/$1.00 store than a comic store. The only thing decent, and I use that term loosely, was their POPS selection. But really, who wants to pay for parking just to go to a lame comic store to buy POPS??? I rather go to Think Geek or something. I really don't see this store lasting long. read more

My absolute GO-TO for anything music, pop-vinyl and of course, comic book related. Newbury Comics is in sole position of the lead when it comes to an in-depth Metal album section. Why buy it on amazon when you can have the real deal in your hands for an equal or BETTER price. If your into niche market comic, collectible and music this is your one stop shop. Not only is the staff extremely accommodating and friendly, they are knowledgeable and display a passion we so seldom find in stores these days. Couldn't recommend enough. 10/10. read more

We were SO THRILLED to hear that a Newbury Comics was opening in Westchester. Having traveled to Massachusetts dozens of times over the years to shop their stores, we were really looking forward to being able to have access to one locally. Our experience was even better than imagined. The space was larger than we'd expected, and their range of products left us wondering which area of the store to check out first. From plush to shirts, socks to mugs, and vinyl and CDs to ukuleles, we had to work hard to stay within our budget. The staff was very friendly and offered attentive service. read more

Not gonna lie, their comic section is weak. But I know from the other location what this place would be. I for one am glad this store opened up relatively close to me. It has the word "comics" in its name but it sells mostly pop culture merchandise (t shirts, glasses, figures, hats, etc), with a small comic section. Sadly there is no money to be made dealing in comics, I guess the owner of this chain has realized that a long time ago. The staff is polite and helpful without a hint of sarcasm. This place is getting 5 stars from me bc quite frankly there were some comic book issues I had trouble getting, but bc this place is not known for comics, they had them in stock when everyone else was sold out (even midtown). They saved me some money and trouble and I still got what I wanted. My only other alternative was buying from eBay for what turned out to be over $100 for the set. read more
