We used OPM from Feb 2010 until March 2014. I can say without hesitation that they were the worst property manager we have ever had. There are many reasons I could list to support my assertion, however, frankly I'm sick of dealing with them and happy to have moved to WKR in Cape May. (So far, WKR has be great). The one reason I will give that should be more than sufficient to disqualify them from your selection group: The do not manage the activities of their usually incompetent staff, simply pass along the hours that they say they work to you, the unknowing property owner. On more than several occasions I questioned high costs that resulted from high hour counts from the maintenance staff. I am a all-summer-long resident in our building and know without question that the hours that we charged were in many cases nowhere near the hours that were worked. Whenever I question these amounts I was told that the workers were already paid and there was nothing that could be done. Really?! They are not our workers and it is not our responsibility to manage them. In essence OPM treated us as a 'pass-through' for payments to their staff, but a pass through with no control or recourse. I could go on with numerous other examples of why you should avoid OPM. There are far too many other property management services in the area to choose from so I would highly recommend doing that. Stay away.

Let me start out by saying this review is not so much about the quality of service but the lack of…read morecommunication. We attempted to book a property for our summer vacation. We found one and thought we were good to go. We followed up two days after confirming we wanted the property because we did not receive the lease like we were supposed to. The woman we were dealing with, Nancy, informed us that the property we were going to rent was booked by the owner and he never informed them. While this was disappointing news to hear and is NOT the fault of the Island Realty, what the issue with this scenario is, if we did not follow up, we would not have known until several more days had passed. Nancy claims she sent an email notifying us but we never received it. I would think bad news such as the rental not being available would warrant a phone call and not an "email". We were reluctant to follow up since we both work in real estate and know everyone is extremely busy right now with rentals and sales. My partner followed up simply because he had some free time and was concerned he missed something in his email. When we asked if there were other pet-friendly options available for our dates we got a cold, sterile response of "I have nothing that accommodates the number of people and a pet". Never once was the word "Sorry" or a modicum of sympathy shown. Again the rental falling through was NOT Island Realty's fault. The lack of customer service and empathy is 100% their's to own. If we got a phone call (customer service) that would have allowed us another day to look for an alternative. If some human emotion (empathy) were extended, that would have left a positive taste in our mouth. We actually want to buy a place next year since renting is too stressful. Two opportunities lost...
