So I was very excited about the new shop and new owners. I have been to the shop a total of 4 times. And 3 of 4 times were good. The last time was not horrible by any means, so my rating of 2 is of my full experience. So my rating rating of 2 boils down to these 5 things (2 positive and 3 growth areas - hence my rating of 2 out of 5 stars): 1)They advertise they do pink and white. If you want pink and white she does only okay. BUT TO GIVE HER CREDIT, she was up front about only being okay at pink and white and even tried to see if I would prefer something else. I TOOK the chance anyway and said that I am willing for her to practice on my nails. So if you want traditional pink and white know that they will be subpar. 2) I do like that every time you go they ask if you want something to drink. That is a very nice touch and creates an inviting atmosphere. I suggest they keep doing this. 3) It is very nice and clean inside, so you feel relaxed which is a great vibe when you want your nails done. 4) When they are NOT busy they take time to do your nails. When they are packed they rush and sacrifice the attention to detail, which could be a bit annoying when you are paying for a service. My recommendation is that you book on slow days, or ask for an allotted time up front so they do not feel rushed to get to the next person. When they do not feel pressure from other customers they take their time. 5) As someone who spoils myself and is willing to pay whatever it is to get my nails done with high quality, I am offended to be labeled as "haggling", especially when I tip (even when the last time the job was rushed, and I got nicked with the drilled). If the owner of the salon can not deal with giving context behind prices and explaining the difference between what is on the board and what customer is being charged I recommend a customer service class. She also said she does not want to do my nails because I "haggled" her. Olean is a very small community and I already started referring people her way. If one minor conflict (conflict resolution is key as an owner and also someone who interacts with customers), then this will affect business. More context below The last time the I went to the shop I got my nails soaked off and a new pink and white. When It was time to check out I was charged $90. The $90 caught me off guard, when the pricing board said "$65", so I asked "It is $25 to soak off nails?". She replied "no only $10 but it is $90 because you got your nails long". I was surprised because when I got my nails done, I asked for them to be not to be long, so to hear, I was charged for long nails surprised me. "I replied, I need to understand the pricing because I feel like I was charged something different when I initially came and got my full set the first time". She replied, "No it is the same, the first time I did charge you ($80) for your nails.. " , which would support the $90. I said okay paid AND TIPPED!. I messaged the owner to ask to set an appointment and she said that I should try other shops if I want to "haggle" about the prices. Now, I was clearly taken a back by this. Why? Because the board said $65 and I was charged $90, so I was seeking clarity on the difference. Furthermore, For the other 3 times I went to this nail shop I spent Over $140+ (2 of 3 times) AND tipped ($10-15+) ON TOP of that. I add the pricing details because I want to convey that I do not have concerns about a $90 dollar amount in isolation. My issue was the price difference in the pricing board. The reason why I did not realize the isolated cost of a new pink and white set is because the first time I went I got a full set PLUS the most expensive pedicure AND of course tipped. If number 5 above did not happen, I would have rated a 3 for average (not overly amazing but not horrible by any means). I do wish them well! read more

I was hesitant about coming here because of the poor reviews, but I am so glad I did. Valentino was the best nail tech I have ever had -- couldn't recommend more. He was so friendly, talked with me the whole time, and took his time until my nails were perfect. Even when I (annoyingly) decided that I didn't like the color a few hours later, he fixed it the same day free of charge. He really cares about the people he services, and you really can't find that many places. If I lived in Olean, I would never go to another salon. Couldn't recommend more! read more

I want to start this largely negative review with saying what they did well at New York Nail Salon. They were very nice, they saw me very quickly, and they made decent conversation. They tried to explain what was going on when I told them I didn't want gel polish after they removed my dip polish... I'm so sorry to have to give this place a bad review because they really were nice people. Now for the problems, because they were many. I stopped in to have dip nail polish that was done at my normal place in Buffalo removed. I was driving through on the way to a business function and realized I had forgotten to get my manicure redone before leaving and the chips were going to drive me nuts. I figured I would pay for them to just remove the dip polish and buff my nails. I should've known there was an issue when the nail tech brought out a little bowl to soak the polish off in. My place roughs up the top layer of polish and does little pieces of cotton wool with acetone and a foil wrap. It's a much kinder, gentler way to remove the polish. The nail tech here soaked my nails for 3 minutes, then proceeded to attack my nails with a dremel tool after which she indicated I should put my hands back in the bowl. She let them soak another 3 minutes, then really went at my nails with the tool again. Rinse and repeat several times. I could feel my nails heating up she was using the tool. She took a few layers of my nail off to the point where when the polish was removed, you could practically breathe on my nails and they'd bend. Because of her uneven use of the tool, I had odd horizontal ridges in my nail where it had been removed by the tool. Some parts of my nail were now thicker than others and if you looked at them from the side, it looked like a furrowed farm field. Then they asked which gel colour I wanted. I didn't want gel polish and said so when I saw what kind of shape my nails were now in. I asked for plain, old-school polish to cover up the weird ridges and stuff that were now in my nails. They explained that my choices were clear or gel because of the (now) weak nails I had. I realize the dip polish thinned my nails out a bit, but they would have been in much, much better condition had the tech used the same method my usual place did for polish removal. She did not trim my cuticles and I left there with the acetone soak still on my skin. I paid for the full manicure and tipped her anyway, I'm not a monster... but I definitely will not be going back there again (and I live relatively nearby) because of the state of my hands and nails when I left. I am now over a month since this happened and my nails are growing out and have stopped tearing every time I put my hand in my jeans pocket or purse, but they're still oddly ridged on the parts she damaged. The rest of the nail is growing back thick and healthy as before, so I'm glad it wasn't permanent damage, but oof. This is going to be a while before my nails look fully normal again. read more

Started out ok but then when the owner passed me on to her daughter, her daughter did a HORRIBLE job. My pedicure was not good, like how do you not lotion feet and legs after a pedicure? Then the polish job on my hands was horrible. I told her her I didn't like it and she said "the nail tech can polish however they want" I told her it was messy. The mom came and took the gel off and did it over. The pictures are bad but it's better than what the daughter did. I won't be back because they do not take pride in their work. They could care less about what it looks like as long as you pay when they are done. No apologies or anything. read more

I went in today thinking of getting nails that looked like the picture. My appointment was at 12 I got there at 12. So after about an hour and a half of sitting there she finally get to me. (Which I'm fine with waiting). Once I show her what I want done she tells me she can't do any of the designs on the nails but she can do black and white. So I said fine just paint them black. Well I wasn't going to sit there any longer to let her paint them because she cut my fingers. Ground away part of my skin on my thumb and told me my fingers were too small for anything. Now I wouldn't be as mad about everything if while I had my hour and a half wait I listened to all the workers scream at a customer because she told them the polish on her fingers didn't match the polish on her toes. Friendly business owner but she's incompetent and does not listen. I came to get a basic mani and pedi along with waxing. She did an amazing lip and chin wax but when it comes to feet and nails, she's highly inept and unskilled. I was wondering to myself where were all of the customers on a Saturday but now I know, they've found a better place than here. She tried to say they were all on vacation for the long Memorial Day weekend, whatever. She cut my cuticle very low the first time and I screamed that it hurt. She then went back to the same nail and cut it again and it bled. I was pissed and told her to leave my nails alone. She tried to put some antiseptic on it but it read as a numbing agent. I abruptly got up, paid her and got the the heck out of there. Over the 20+ years of getting my nails done, I've never had this to happen to me. She then wanted to continue the job with my bleeding finger which is insane. I was more pissed that she charged me the full price after causing my finger to bleed. Very unapologetic and unsympathetic. The cuticles look horrific as you can see in the pics; they're not trimmed neatly at all but she has the audacity to want full payment. You'll lose more than $51 if you continue with this type of crappy service. Now, I have to get an anti bacterial ointment so it doesn't get infected. She got a bandaid and just hands it to me without assisting to help. DO NOT COME HERE!!! They're not competent and do not listen. read more

I went in for a pedicure with a group of friends. They asked if I wanted a manicure and before I knew it, I was given and extremely sloppy gel manicure while I was sitting in the massage chair... not even at the table. The technician didn't even push my cuticles back or file my nails neatly. They are all messed up. It was a pretty expensive lesson learned. read more

Went today for a pedicure and eyebrows. Arrived 2 minutes after they opened. There was a girl in the chair already getting her nails done. The nail tech walked right by me to get her polish . Didnt say a word. After about 15 minutes I see another woman come from the back. She sits next to the nail tech. Again no intereaction with me. As they sit and talk back and forth in another language for about 10 minutes. I just got up and left. It was almost 1030. No one had even acknowledge me being there let alone what service I was there for. I have been coming here for years and its too bad I wont be back. Usually at a resturant I give them 7 minutes and if I am not acknowledged I leave. SO I believe I did well. Considering I drove 40 minutes to get there, I will find one closer to home. If you have alll the time in the world and want unacceptable treatment this is your place!!! read more

I suppose I didn't specify clearly or maybe it was in the rush that it was miscommunicated. However, I went in on a Friday evening because they are open until 8pm, so that is a plus! read more

This place is horrible. I had an appointment for 3 I got there early and they made us wait until a 4 o'clocker came in. Then when I had my last set of acrylics the lady used someone else's nail clipping to pry mine off. As well as the cuts I got from this lady. She was nice but really rough and threw my hand away when I told her to file it a little more. They didn't sanitize their work station and used files that were used on other people. There work is good but over priced. Short ombré nails with 3 small gems cost 65.00. Not to mention she tried to file my cuticles with an electric file. Honestly not worth your time! read more

I've been a customer for a while now, I don't get my nails done often but when I do, I come here. Over the past couple of months I've been in more often and it keeps getting worse. I made an apt for 5:30 for a group and told them I would not be there till a little after six, since I work at the hospital and don't finish till then. I reminded my family to tell them I'd be ther after six. When I showed up at 6:10, two other girls walked in before me. It was quite busy but I figured when I told them I made an apt I'd be next in line. NOPE, they let 4 other WALK-INS, in before me. Finally at 7:30, they started my pedi, it was great. But I also scheduled a mani too, the owner repeatedly talking me out of what I wanted saying "it'd cost too much" or "no, it wouldn't look good on you" finally I settled on a dipped French mani. By now it's about 8:30 it closes at 9. Then when I'm in my seat to start my manicure, the owner goes in to the back to do a wax, and leaves me in my seat to wait longer! I'm so frustrated at this time I just want to leave, but I give them the benefit of the doubt. When I finally get my nails started she was talking to another coworker and had to restart my left hand twice! Then everyone leaves and she finishes, I pay and leave a tip because that'll be the last time I go there. I paid for a manicure with the hand massage which I didn't get (which has happened twice now), she cut 60% of my cuticles too short so my fingers were bleeding, and she didn't do that great of a job. When I told my friends they said, they also screwed up ther nails, one by not sanding the tips after her mani so they were super sharp and the other said her nails were so streaky when she went home even her husband noticed (he's a farmer, and all the years she been getting them done this is the first time he's noticed how bad they look) and she ended up having to remove it and re-doing it herself. I paid $90 for a mani pedi worth no more than $30, ridiculous. End of rant.. sort of Be warned if you make an apt they won't stick to it, they're manicures are not good, and you'll pay for something and not receive it. Where do I begin? Was out for a girls night with my coworkers and couldn't even enjoy myself. The owner was rude and pushy on us to keep spending money. The guy who did my pedicure did a good job and they do have a good variety of colors. Two of the girls I went with did an upgrade pedicure and didn't receive all the treatments that were included for what they paid for. When we got done they only cleaned the pedicure tubs with dish soap and the utensils with hand soap! Neither of which kills bacteria and fungus! So gross! When I went to pay I handed her a gift certificate that was only a year and a half old, she wouldn't except it because it was "too old". The certificate DID NOT have an expiration date on it. When I finally was served they rushed through my pedicure and did a terrible job. The lady was on the phone the entire time and talking obnoxiously. Ouch. Reasonably priced, extensive pedicure, but feel like I've been beat up in a World Wrestling match. Problem, big man who acts like he doesn't speak English, just slams things on you, no notice, slams hot rocks on shins, abrasive salt or something, but you never know what's next, and he is rough and hurts. The follow up manicure was crude, using that huge grain Emory board, never followed with fine. And, first he cut all my nails off with clippers! He made them square, I told him no, round, he said, " yeah yeah yeah" then made them short and square. No massage, pretty crude.....probably someone else would be ok, this was just a big palooka rough like a man doing machine work or something. I tipped him because I figured he didn't know any better , ten dollar tip he never acknowledged. Pretty awful. Oh, I forgot, he BURPS loudly and looks angry full time.
