Plenty of vendors and food stations to immerse yourself in. The lines moved pretty quickly. We tried the gyro, moussaka, feta phyllo and souvlaki. Shaded tables and chairs that were kept so clean by all the young gentlemen manning that station. The very talented live band kept the jovial vibe alive to thoroughly enjoy yourself on the sidelines or on the dance floor. Lots of baked goods to choose from the baklava and custard crème filo were our favorites. A beautiful day to celebrate a beautiful culture.

In the way old days there was trivia at each checkpoint and the card told you which way to turn based on the answer you picked. If you got the right answer you'd be on the right path. Then there was no more trivia, but there were numbered checkpoints so you'd know whether you were on the right path or not. Not as fun, but OK. This year there wasn't even numbered checkpoints. I guess there was a photo of the design you could take a photo of when you paid to enter, but no one told us about that. We ended up hearing about it from someone else in the maze when we asked if they had seen a checkpoint yet. Turns out you really don't need a photo though. It's basically a long walk (took us 45 minutes) through the cornfield. You can't really get lost because any dead ends are super short. There is literally no challenge in it anymore. I was pretty disappointed. It's always been a favorite fall activity for me.

We were expecting this to be a western-themed hot air balloon and wine festival. The "western" part was accurate, as there were 3 stages that had live performances from country artists. However, there wasn't a hot air balloon anywhere when we went last Sunday, nor were there wineries from vineyards that I would typically expect at a wine festival. We made the most out of our time there and took lots of the photos. There were many different iron sculptures and country-themed decor and backdrops, which were very pretty. The vibe was more like a country fair than a wine festival. We were there from 11am - 3pm and saw some of the artists perform, but missed the main attractions who were scheduled to perform later in the evening. The stages were too close in proximity to each other, so they were competing with each other. We were seated under a tent between 2 stages because it was the only area that had shade from the blistering sun that was close enough to the stage. We were protected from the sun, but the trade off was we heard the 2 bands playing at the same time, so it was hard to enjoy. Strategically, it would've made more sense to space them out a bit more. There was a nice variety of food vendors that sold pretty good food! We also went to the saloon to grab drinks and play pool. There was a jukebox that had a selection of country favorites, which was nice. If you have plans to attend this festival next year, I would advise against going on a Sunday. The main reason is because they only have their famous balloon glow on Friday and Saturday evening. For the price of an actual ticket (a little over $100), all you get is access to the concerts. Food, beverages, hot air balloon rides, and parking are all extra. Parking was $35 per car on a dirt lot. Overall, we had fun at this event. It would've been nice if they offered more for the price of admission for those who paid to attend. A souvenir tote bag, t-shirt, or cowboy hat would've been appreciated, or maybe tickets to redeem for a drink or two. I received complimentary tickets, so I can't complain. It was a festive event and we had a good time.

Finally made it in 2026. Parked in the shaded parking lot of Fallbrook High School and in a short while a comfy air conditioned shuttle bus took a bunch of us up to the 7-11 at the south end of the festival at Main Ave and Fallbrook Street. I had read all the reviews so I knew not to expect a lot of avocado themed items like I would have imagined they might have - avocado beer, avocado wine, Indonesian avocado coffee (es apulkat), avocado shaped bumper cars and other avocado themed fairground rides, folks walking around dressed in avocado costumes, a guacamole wrestling ring, etc. But I did go on a scavenger hunt of all avocado related items mentioned in reviews from years past. The festival is on Main avenue between W Fallbrook Street and E Mission Road on the north end. There were all sorts of booths like you'd see at a street fair or farmers market. There was also The Fun Zone - a huge play area for kids with all sorts of things like a giant slide. So first thing I got was the Holy Guaca-Moly guacamole and chips for ten bucks - it seemed like there was one of these booths at every other intersection along Main avenue. It was good guacamole but you don't get a lot for the amount they were charging. Next I went to the Coal Bunker to try the pork and the shrimp stuffed avocados. They also had chicken as well as quinoa stuffed avocados. Of the two I tried the shrimp most definitely ruled - would get that again. After that I went to Bakin' It Up to try their avocado ice cream and avocado fudge bar - the avocado ice cream was a nice cold treat for a warm day and the avocado fudge was very creamy - no surprise since avocado is the first ingredient listed on the packaging. I also went next door to The Spoiled Avocado, who were also advertising Avocado Fudge. They were giving out samples and this was different - actual chocolate pieces made with avocado oil - they were not creamy but solid pieces in all sorts of flavors - classic, walnut, orange, peanut butter, salted caramel. I also paid a visit to the Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society which was a nice detour to get away from the crowds. Finally there seemed to be a lot of folks selling boxes of Hass from Del Rey Avocado Company. I would have gotten one as well but instead I got Zutanos from Everdawn Farms and Fuertes from Del Sol Ranch so I left the festival content with my avocado haul.

The prices are a little high but it's well worth it to support our local farmers. The fruits and veggies are always nice and fresh. There aren't nearly as many vendors on Wednesdays but if you are just going for fruits and vegetables you won't be disappointed. Angel Farms is my favorite vendor but I do like them all. Atkins nursery from Fallbrook comes down and they always have local avocados.
