Homemade dumplings -- hands down the best I've ever had! The war wonton soup is a solid 5/5. After reading through the menu, I already know I'll be back tomorrow to try the fish and chips. This is a owner-run spot where they take real pride in both the food and the service, and it shows. And the prices? Honestly some of the best I've seen in a long time. We went there today for lunch. First visit. The lady that served us was so nice! She never stopped smiling. She flew around looking after everyone all on her own. We both had the cod and fries. I would never order it again. The fish was very bland. It was edible but I've had a lot better. Burgers looked good. Prices were fair for this inflated market. This was the first time ordering here since the old owners retired. The food used to be amazing, I can now say it was the complete opposite. We ordered the halibut, it was dry and flavourless. The fries tasted like they were old and had been reheated and the coleslaw looked like nothing I've seen before. We were told 20 minutes for pickup and still had to wait another 15 when we got there. I would expect if I'm waiting this long for food, that it would be fresh and delicious. Won't be ordering from here again. read more

I had the Halibut fish burger with fries and my partner had the cheeseburger. Both were great...but remember this place is known for FISH!

As far as a greasy little cafe goes, Mr. Spuds is a classic little place to visit in Okotoks. The burgers and fries are very good (if you don't mind some grease) and I would highly recommend trying them out. You also can't go wrong choosing the fish and chips as they also never fail to serve those up with great quality. Any of the other dishes I have never really tried because I generally go to Mr. Spuds for either of these two items. The value at Mr. Spuds is very good and it's nice to support a family owned business with great service. I have gone there many times over the years and always keep it in mind when deciding where to eat in Okotoks. read more

My dad learned to make fish and chips in England, then came to Canada and learned the Canadian method as well, serving fish and chips for 30-40 years. We went to Mr Spud Cafe because we heard from friends that theirs was very good and award winning. We ordered the Halibut & Chips and the Grilled Halibut with salad. The Halibut & Chips were delicious... crisp on the outside, just the right amount of batter, moist fish on the inside. The fries were were the right texture and properly done as well. And at about $12, the price was reasonable for halibut. My dad very much enjoyed the dish as well, considering he usually has a lot of critique for other ones he's tried. The grilled halibut was a decent healthy option, but without the batter, the fish was a bit drier. Highly recommend for the Fish & Chips. read more

My friend and I were in Okotoks on Thursday and decided to try lunch at Mr Spud as we walked by. they had many "Trip advisor" reviews hanging on their wall and in their window. however the most recent was 2015, so 8 years ago. So here's a recent one from us. We sat down and eventually the "waitress" (I think owner) came and threw menus on the table and walked away. No hello, welcome etc. We waited quite a while then she came to take our order. We both ordered the Halibut fish and chips. She seemed more interested in talking to the other table which it seemed she knew and spent much of the time over there talking. we finally got our orders. the halibut was very good but the fries were horrible. they were cold, hard and tasted freezer burnt. Very disappointing to have such bad chips in a Fish and Chips meal from a place called Mr Spud. she never came back to ask or check how our meal was. We both finished our fish only and had to ask for the bill because she was too busy chatting with the other table. Nothing on the bill said where to pay and we waited and waited till I finally got up to ask where we pay at which time was told at the counter. I told her the fries were horrible and her response was, well the fish was good and next time order the wonton soup. we were really disappointed in the service and mea. the fish was good but not worth going back if you can't offer decent chips in a fish and chip meal, or acknowledge it, and apologize. This is not much to look at but a nice lunch spot. They Haaretz great wonton soup and dumplings although their claimm to game is their fish and chips. We shared both and were not disappointed. The food was so nothing to write home about, the old ice cubes made the tap water taste rancid. Typical quality burger but expensive. Fish over cooked and expensive. Small fry and rings portions. Small cup of coffee $3 and iced tea made from crystals with the same chlorine tap water $3.25. Cafeteria napkins and a sticky table. Total for 2 to eat less than McDonald's quality food, $42.00. Don't have a clue where the positive Yelp reviewers ate. 1st time was our last time. read more

The New Mr.Spud cafe is the best eats around! The fish n chips is who I drive an hour one way to get my favourite halibut and chips! The fish is the freshest I've ever had in Alberta and is hand battered right there as you order! The staff is amazing and the food is outstanding!! Halibut and Chips were excellent. We also tried the poutine and really enjoyed it. The gravy was homemade.

The couple that runs Mr. Spuds are very friendly, offer great service, and if you like Hamburgers or Fish and Chips, they are the best in Town. We enjoy going every couple of weeks to take a break and they are very consistent, always hot when they serve your food. The value is very good. read more
