They advertised at that time as their mechanics really knowing Subarus and I wanted a garage (like everyone else) that would provide solid service without ripping you off like the dealerships tend to do. We had SO much work done on our car over many years here-they did everything from multiple brake jobs, to basic maintenance and timing belt and head gaskets, etc to keep us running for 145K+ miles as the car got older. Among many other positives, two things stand out to me: 1) if I needed them to address a new noise or concern such as a light going on, etc and called, they often suggested I drop by and briefly check it out and were able to address a quick fuse change or provide a quick assessment of what might be the issue, sometimes within the same day and this was never charged for. That's service you don't get many places. 2) I feel they are honest- there were times we had to decide to be strategic about some maintenance and they provide you feedback on what might be coming up maintenance wise, not just saying you need it done now unless it truly does need to be completed now and their best idea of timeframe to do it by. This allowed me to plan a lot more for the next $$$ to maintain the car and feel we were on top of the current condition of the car. Another example: there was a time I had taken the car to a dealership and that service advisor said I needed to replace both leaking head gaskets now and failed my Maine inspection. Got second opinion by this garage, they showed me the car on lift and informed me only ONE gasket needed to be done soon and was leaking but the other wasn't even needing to be addressed! Passed my Maine state inspection that day! Only negatives: it's small- that means longer waits to get into schedule during the week they are open (closed weekends) , only two seats right in the entry way if you opt to wait, have no courtesy shuttle or loaner car and do not do tires or alignments. All in all I would definitely recommend this garage and the cost is less than dealerships.

At Maine Street Auto you meet husband and wife team Matt and Kylie, owners of the business. I can think of many words to describe them, words such as honest, knowledgeable, and dedicated to serving their customers. I have bought many cars in my lifetime, but I can say I have never met such caring professionals as Matt and Kylie. They provided me with a complete history of the used car I saw there and really liked. They allowed me to take the car to the mechanic I have used for the last 28 years. He told me that the car was a really good buy. There was only one minor repair he recommended that needed to be taken care of. I approached Matt about it. He didn't bat an eye when he said. Two gentlemen that have been in the used car business for many decades. As Good Guys used autos and trucks they have a niche business plan whereby most of the used cars they buy are acquired from local new car dealerships. They buy the trade-ins. The condition of the acquired vehicles is for the most part know. The 2021 Ford F-150 that they sold me deviated from their standard business plan. It was acquired at an auction in Texas. Maybe they were attracted by the salt free roads in Texas. A number of issues have arisen since my purchase on 9/11/24. When I came to pickup the truck after the purchase I was told a new battery had to be purchased (by them). They installed the new battery and I took delivery of the truck. The next day when the truck was at my home (Nobleboro) , the battery was dead. I jumped the battery and went back to Brunswick. Guy of GG said it must be a bad new battery. I got the new different battery, went home and the next morning the battery charge was depleted. After 2 (two) more trips to Brunswick a mechanic replaced a faulty fuse circuit board. There was no charge(monetary) for this battery issue. It took (4) 60 mile trips to Brunswick to get it right. GG has a 1 bay garage but have trouble with staffing a skilled mechanic. 4 Wheel Drive Issue On October 31, 2024 ( 50 days after purchase) I was in Friendship hauling a boat out and needed the 4 wheel drive, the truck would not go into and come out of 4 wheel drive and warning lights appears on the dash saying SERVICE VEHICLE -DO NOT DRIVE. I called Guy at GG and told him I was having the truck hauled to Brunswick. After several days Guy told me he had the mechanic look at the truck and there was no problem and he had driven the truck several miles. I had no reason to use 4 wheel drive until the first January snow storm and the same issue as in October appeared. At this time I did what I should have done before the truck was purchased--I took it to my local garage (certified inspection station) and had a computerized system scan performed. Error codes displayed for the 4 wheel drive, A/C system and the mechanic reported the truck was out of alignment and had excessive front tire wear because of the alignment issue. I took the truck to another mechanic (certified inspection station) for a second opinion and schedule the work if needed. I advised Guy at GG of the issues and I needed it repaired. Maine Towing and Collision of Waldoboro diagnosed and repaired the faulty 4 WD system for $886.45. Dominic D'Alessio had issued a 6 month extended warranty with a 3rd party (ASC), but this company declined to cover the repair. Dominic D'Alessio said he GG would not reimburse the repair. At the time of the diagnosis I had driven the truck less than 3000 miles. FRONT END ALIGNMENT-BALL JOINT- TIRE WEAR ISSUE While the truck was at Maine Towing and Collision the mechanic confirmed the truck was out of alignment and the ball joints were in need of replacement. I told the mechanic when I bought the truck it had a less than one month old vehicle inspection sticker. I asked the mechanic if the ball joints could be wore this badly in 5 months driven less than 3000 miles (from the time of the sticker being applied to the time of his inspection). He said it was an issue to be pursued. The repair estimate is for $1,039.19. from Maine Towing and Collision. Dominic D'Alessio said he would not reimburse this repair. I need to now appeal to the state of Maine State Police inspection division to investigate a possible inspection sticker issue. There was an A/C system issue that was reported to GG on September 18, 2024. With the assistance of Guy of GG the repair was completed March 13, 2025. 6 months after the initial report. GG purchase more than 100s of used cars each year. I purchase 1 vehicle every 5 years. I have never had such an unsatisfactory used vehicle purchase in my 50 years of buying vehicle. My advice is if you go to GG deal with Guy. Have the vehicle thoroughly evaluated by an independent certified mechanic. An except from GG mission statement reads, "we are proud of the quality used cars we sell and our dedication to serve the needs of our customers" . in my case the GG mission did not ring true. To be completely fair, the vehicles GG buy from their local car dealerships are known and are satisfactory. However my truck was purchased in a Texas auction and I know it had surprises. In my last conversation with Dominic he said customers are not getting new cars they are used vehicles. He is correct, but when I purchased a 2021 truck for $27,000+ I expected more than what I have gotten. For the repairs listed my $27,000 truck is costing an additional $1900! Next stop small claims court.
