The welcome is genuine and they have their feet on the ground. They serve beer made down the road and it's popular with real ale fans. The food is good -basic and inexpensive - Ploughman's and sarnies, for example. Good choice of well made cheeses and pate. I love the double seats in the porch. I have fond memories of taking my father here and sharing a seat here. And it's a lovely place to go for a walk along The Ridgeway before or after. There is a hard core group of drinkers and "local personalities" that can be overwhelming for the uninitiated, this however if your on you own or in a boring marriage / relationship can make for amusing viewing. This aside, the relatively new management team have really turned this pub around from what was a bear pit to a well organised and comfortable pub with the best locally priced food and beer. Fosters for instance is 70p cheaper a pint than the relatively nearby Badgers Wood. It also sells a very reasonable choice of wine at very competitive prices. There are even guest Real Ales to keep almost every happy apart from me, come on people lets have a quality Cider on tap, not that rubbish Strong**w. Recently benefiting a big refit this pub has comfortably retaken its no.1 spot in Tadley. With great value food, comparatively cheap beer, several new tellies with Sky and ESPN sports makes it a sensible choice for watching the big match or having bit of a sesh with mates.

Hubs had fish n chips (he never gets tired of it) and said it was the best one of our trip. I had the hoisin duck salad. The duck was shredded and crispy. Yum! I found the sauce a bit sweet, but with a little vinegar it was perfect. Neighbors were coming and going, greeting each other happily -- terrific atmosphere.

They recently went through a heavy makeover of the restaurant and now the look really matches the food. They've kept the comforting pub bar and quiet corners but also installed a family friendly restaurant area that opens onto an impressive beer garden with a two story Wendy house! But to return to the more important aspects of having a restaurant, the food is really good. The service is fast and every time i've gone they've been incredibly friendly. I've even blundered into a quiz night by total chance which was really well run (though i might be saying that as i won a bottle of wine!). Friendly, affordable, good quality, i forgot to mention the beer but there are some fine ales and bitters as well as the standard fair on tap. Good for families but also a really nice place to just sit and take your ease for a while. a real country retreat of a pub.

Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and the service is brilliant. I love the wine list, but I'm being torn away from making my way through that to try their excellent range of spirits!! They have a green and relaxing beer garden with a cool looking hut for kids (no more salt and vinegar crisps and cola by a fireplace! ), and even their own veggie patch where they grow a few herbs for the kitchen. It's a little tricky to get to, narrow country roads, etc, but we'll worth it. If you wanting to eat I would advise booking and this place gets busy from the second it opens. Caters to all, especially families and has a wonderful garden and patio. Tim Gray is the landlord of this gem and is hands-on and welcoming. You will not regret visit this amazing pub.
