Average take out spot in whitby. Some dishes are decent and some fall short. They are open decent hours so that's a plus!

This restaurant specializes in Indian Hakka and Thai food…read more We had a small group of foodies who gathered for a luncheon together. We tried the following Dishes: Bombay Chicken, Hot Sour Soup, Zen Special Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice with Chicken on Top, Manchurian Fish, Hot Garlic Shrimp, Papaya Salad, Thai Green Curry Chicken, Steamed Chicken Momo, Crispy Ginger Beef I normally wouldn't choose to order soup, as I like to fill up on the heartier dishes but I was absolutely blown away by their Hot and Sour Soup. It's not overly sour and to me it was the perfect flavor profile. It was thick and loaded with tofu and chicken. The Bombay Chicken and Zen Special Chicken were both flavorful and unique chicken dishes. The crispy ginger beef was cooked to perfection; i'd definitely order it again. If you're looking for something tasty to drink their mango Lassi is superb. It's sweet and creamy. I loved it! The Thai Milk Tea was also a knock out. It was sooo good!!!

They also have a very nice dining room if you want to eat in. You may notice that The Big Zen seems very, very similar to The Zen, also in Whitby. The owners say there is no affiliation between the two, but it is obvious it is the same place, with the exact same menu and great quality food, just different owners. Highly recommended.

I recently went to Calypso Queen in Whitby for lunch with a friend. They specialize in Guyanese…read morestyle Chinese food. Between the two of us, we ordered much more than we could eat, just to try the food. We had Beef with Broccoli, Singapore Noodles, Roast Duck, and Ginger Green Onion Chicken. Both the beef and chicken dishes were really good. The noodle dish could have used a touch more curry for our liking but it still tasted good. The duck was obviously reheated. The flavour was decent but the texture was a little off. Overall, the food at this place was pretty good. So were the prices and service. We'll be back! PS - They have some great weekday lunch specials for only $8.99 each, including rice.

I recognize the owner who used to manage and work at a different Hakka restaurant a few years back. We ordered takeout there is lunch specials at $8.50 which includes 2 small veggie spring rolls. You can add a pop for $1, upgrade to veggie fried rice $2.50, chicken fried rice $2.75, veggie chowmein $3.00, and chicken chowmein $3.25. Option to add 1 chicken leg or 4 chicken wings or 3 chicken balls for $3.25. Extra Bbq sauce, honey garlic sauce, and sweet and sour sauce $1.25. The owner told me she's been open for 8 months now. I love supporting local businesses especially when they work hard to provide quality food at very reasonable prices. I ordered the chili chicken on steamed rice and sweet and sour chicken. The chili chicken is deep fried and then stir fried in their chili sauce and onions. The heat level was tolerable and the seasoning was just right. The sweet and sour chicken also had deep fried boneless chicken thigh meat and covered in the ultra red sweet and sour sauce. I was so hungry and wasnt able to take pictures of the food. Portion wise, I would say it's fair for the price you pay however I would have liked just a little more chicken in each lunch special. The restaurant is fully licensed and serves beer and alcohol. The dining area has a nice warm caribbean decor. I will try to come next time and dine in because the food is more enjoyable when consumed right away. Overall, I recommend this place if you're looking for some caribbean, Hakka, and Guyanese flavours. Will try other items on the menu like the Lo-mein, Special chicken (fried chicken on top) chowmein, Pepper shrimp chowmein.

My family have been avid consumers of asian food for as long as I can remember, and part of the…read morereason of this love for asian food has largely been the influence Sam's Kitchen has played on our Chinese experience. The location is small, but that is to be expected since it is in the heart of downtown Whitby. This location is one Im very familiar with, and I can say that after years of testing out there menu, they have a wide variety of authentic options for everyone with a cultured tongue. Seafood dishes are savoury and flavourful, the fried rice dishes are filling and full of fresh ingredients, but what is most notable is the cantonese chow mein, which is delectable and bursting with colours through the use of fresh vegetables and natural ingredients. This has been a personal favourite, as we have ordered it a countless number of times and have even had it delivered to our house and different venues during special occasions (yes, they cater!). After years of attending this restaurant, I can say that the staff are exceptionally friendly and that the establishment's namesake is a gentleman who always shows service with a smile! The great thing about this restaurant is there is no specific niche that the restaurant specializes in! Whether it's seafood, poultry or the wide variety of noodle options that are available, you can be sure that whatever you are enjoying is an authentic Chinese delicacy. If you're new to the Chinese experience and are are unsure about what you should try, Sam's menu provides a range of combination specials on his menu in both the traditional Cantonese and Peking styles. Sam's kitchen proves that there are in fact good places in Whitby to try culturally diverse food, just be prepared for the small location and unfortunate lack of parking! When it comes to authentic Chinese cuisine, Im a fan of Sam!
