I absolutely LOVE the Leland branch of Brunswick County Libraries. Each branch has a different…read moreatmosphere, and Leland is the most laid-back-yet-helpful by a mile. No matter how busy they are, how many people are trying to figure out the copier, how many toddlers are squealing in their play area, everyone at the counter is smiling and quick to lend a hand. When it's not quite so hectic, there's no one better to help you find a book, even when you can't quite describe what you want. Now that's a great skill! Big shout-out to Caitlin and CC (unsure of spellings), both of whom are quite knowledgeable and always ready to offer assistance, and to Manager Nathan, who works side-by-side with them and sets the tone that makes Leland Library such a great place to visit. It's easy to drive right by this BCL gem tucked in just past the Brunswick Center on Village Road, but you definitely need to stop by when you have a few minutes. P.S. The pics are random: the flag out front of the library on a beautiful afternoon and a film event from January (2026). Film events continue and are on Friday afternoons; check their website for schedule.

I decided to check out Children's Story Time and it didn't disappoint. Starts at 10AM promptly and lasts around 30 min. The Librarian will read three-four books and do some type of interactive song/dance in between each book. My little is almost ten months old and I was impressed by how entertained he was. He enjoyed watching the other kids sing and dance. It also is another opportunity to start introducing him to groups of children so he can learn how to act in public. After story time, there is a very small and simple craft for the kids to participate in that is led by the Librarian. Cute idea! If you're looking to get out of the house for a bit and spend zero dollars, this is a great option for your kiddo!

A high quality and professional atmosphere in which to quietly read. Excellent internet access…read more Very kind and helpful staff. The community is lucky to have this resource.

With going back to school, I've been in the search for a quiet place to study and do homework. The…read moreOak Island library is perfect for that! I'm able to spend 4 hours undisturbed in a very quiet place. Although a smaller library, they have everything I need. Wireless internet, computers, printers (5 cents a copy), and desks to work at. They also have a nice children's area. The staff is friendly and helpful. You need to have aBrunswick County address to receive a library card. Make sure to bring proof of address :) Update- after visiting the library several times now and spending 3-4 hours there, I have decided to change my review. I have come to find that they care more about instilling the no food or drink rule than the "quiet rule." I guess my first visit here was a slow day because every time since it has been so loud with people carrying on conversation and having no respect for the quiet library atmosphere, including some of the staff. Also don't even think about walking in with a water bottle. No matter how long you plan to stay you are no aloud to have a drink of water, even if you are just using their desk area and not even looking at a book or using their computers :( I've never heard of that! I've been to libraries where they have vending machines in their libraries because they want you to feel comfortable. It's kind of frustrating when your studying for 3-4 hours and can't have a sip of water while listening to everyone around you loudly converse :(
