New Generation Lighting located on the Bowery is one of my favorite places to shop for lighting fixtures. They offer a nice selection of lighting at reasonable prices. Some of the designs resemble those of more expensive designers, similar but not the same. The employees can be very helpful, I've learned a lot about the different styles of lighting as well as colors while shopping here. They also have sale "specials" in the window. Recently they were selling a fog and light machine for 19.99$ In different colors, marked way down. I asked if they could customize one lamp so that it could be plugged into an outlet & they said "no problem" but for an additional 45$, which I thought was a bit more than I wanted to spend. Still, they can do it for you, so it's nice to have options. read more

New Generation Lighting did a wonderful job on my wall lamp. I had purchased a wall scone from CB2 and went to New Generation Lightning to see if they could transition it to plug-in. I provided them with my direction, and together we discussed the cord length, how it should turn on and picked out the type of plug. They have a variety of cords to choose from and even soldered the wire through the fixture, which I really appreciated. They did a beautiful job and surpassed my expectations, returning my wall lamp back to me within 24hrs. I highly recommend going to New Generation Lighting for your lighting projects. I needed to replace an overhead fixture and time was a factor so I decided to shop in person rather than online. There aren't too many lamp stores left in what used to be the lighting district on the Bowery, but New Generations is one of the few still there, and it had a good selection of reasonably priced overhead fixtures. The price on the item that I bought was even a bit lower than the same item when I looked it up online. The proprietor knows his merchandise and had the item I wanted in stock. He found it in seconds, and tied it up with a handle so that I could carry the box easily. The fixture was installed and looks great. read more

Was contemplating going all the way up to 70th to Gracious Home in search of Edison filament bulbs when we stopped into this incredibly clean, insanely organized, tremendously helpful, very well stocked store and found more than we needed. There is a terrific selection of modern hanging and floor lamps here at prices that would mak CB2 choke. In addition to that we got these bulbs for $9 vs. the $14.99 online and the $9.99 (plus a round trip subway ride) to the UES. mission accomplished and money saved. read more

Terrible customer service. They do not stand behind their products. I bought five outdoor metal lights. Four of the five had their outer coating peel and look terrible. We paid close to $1,000 for the five lights. When I contacted the company I was told that the one year warranty had expired. That's it. I am out $1,000. Came in here for a cute lamp for my little sublet. Looked around for a while and it seemed like my presence alone bothered the sales people. Bought a cute little lamp here with a microUSB charger. Was great for 2 days and then stopped charging all the way, and would only stay bright for a few minutes. Then the button broke after two weeks. read more

These people are terrific. Eighteen years ago, I purchased a dozen small fixtures for my kitchen. One burned out recently, and I wanted to replace it with the same thing, to keep the look consistent. Carey said he'd check with the manufacturer to see if the piece was still available. I said if he could find it, I'd take two, since they're getting old now and others may burn out. Within 48 hours he phoned to say I could come pick them up. The glass reflectors provided in the two new units were slightly different than my original ones, so Carey and his co-workers rummaged around in the shop and came up with exactly what I needed. They also do some repairs and some custom work. Prices are quite reasonable. Nice, friendly, knowledgeable folks. Thanks Guys! read more

New Generation has a really nice range of modern, budget friendly lights. We looked around at many of the other stores on Bowery, but couldn't find anything similar to the lights that we liked. Since we were buying quite a few lights (replacing all the lights in our town house), I gave the sales guy a charming smile, some puppy dog eyes, and a wink, and he gave us an additional 10% off (you gotta ask ;-)). Before we picked the lights up, their staff opened all the boxes and asked us to inspect each one. We were really impressed with that, because the last thing you want to do is get home and realize you have a broken light (especially when home is VA :P). I would have given them 4 stars, but I had a really bad experience with them over email - I asked for a quote and it was about $100 higher per light than what we were quoted in-store. When I emailed them back to ask about it, I never got a response back (I re-emailed them about 4 more times, but still no response). Normally I would decide not to buy from a company that treats their customers like that, but I really liked one of their lights (and we got a good deal when we asked for a better deal in the store). read more

I put a deposit on two lamps that they called me a week later and said they couldn't get from manufacturer. They would not refund my money unless I came in, which was a future sale ploy. They have no right to hold someone's money until they are willing to come in. They should refund the money and then they can suggest I come in again, and I probably would have. Three people got on the phone, told me I had an attitude and another lady got on and said that I kept talking and talking. All rude people. I finally had to say that my credit card company would handle this. They have no right to hold someone's money hostage in order to get them to come back into their store and work a new sale. I also think they should make sure that their products are current and if not, take them off the sales floor or sell the floor models. read more

This place looks brand spankin new, which is probably because it is! They have an excellent selection of modern lighting, and the sales people were nice, informative, and definitely not clingy (always a plus). The reason I only give it 3 stars is because I'm pretty sure that their prices are a good 15% higher than anyone else's for the same stuff. After we saw a light for our island that we liked, we decided to see if anyone else had it. Sure enough, the place across the street had it...for $45 less! When stores are that close and have that much competition, it's just annoying to find that one has been marking everything up much higher. read more

I ordered fixtures on line from this store. They charged my credit card immediately but it turns out they didn't have the product. They promised to refund my credit card but never did. It's been 3 months. When I call the store the clerk always tells me he cannot help. Do not order from this store. Their customer service is terrible. read more

We are really frantic about the strange behavior of this company. We have paid them several hundred dollars for kitchen lighting. The lights we ordered were weeks late, and now, nearly two months later, the phone is never answered and the store is never open. We have been back 8-9 occasions and have called over and over again. Very much regretting that we ever used this company. read more
