I lived a block away from this place from 1999-2013, and I only recently started Yelping, so...
I live in Toronto now, but any time I'm visiting my Dad (who still lives on Joseph street right by it), I lament that I can't find any good "fake Chinese" food where I live now (yeah, sorry, I DON'T like most authentic Chinese food, my palate's just too westernized and I get plate fright with bones or eyes or offal. And Manchu Wok franchies have just gotten DISGUSTING in the last year, but that's a whole other review) and he gets us takeout from there. Combo 3 and 4 plates are our standard, consisting of fried rice (with lots of things in it- chicken, egg, shallot, etc.) for the #4, six large chicken balls that are hot, fresh and swimming in sauce for both, chop suey on the #3 plate instead of rice (we always split the two so we each get some of both), and eggrolls. Lots of other things too on the menu. And the portions are HUGE and as far as I can tell, no msg. I have NEVER finished it all in one meal (we usually get an extra eggroll each and have a good lunch the next day too). Very reasonably priced; less than $10 will feed you very well if you get takeout and provide your own drink back at home. It LOOKS sketchy from the outside as it's in a rather old building and in a not-so-good part of town, but looks are deceiving, it's fantastic. Dad never goes to any other Chinese places when he wants it since about 2000. read more
