We walked in and asked for A specific high end work boot... owner screamed at us to get out. I'll be honest wasn't expecting that. I feel bad writing this cause it seems the owner has mental health issues. Not a dr, but bipolar would be my guess. He needs medicine, therapy and a safe place. I was having problems finding a American made Chippewa boot in my size because of the company's struggle to access materials. Tried several places with no luck Until I contacted New England boot co I spoke with the owner who was friendly and courteous and had the pair I was looking for and offered to set them aside for me. Will be going back over and over again, the owner may come off as very stern, but after spending some time talking to him he took the time to explain a lot of stuff about his store and the knowledge he has on boots and shoes. I spent about an hour there trying on different boots and he asked multiple questions to make sure I had found the right boot. I agree with the 1 star reviews here. I was in there one time looking for some boots. I hadn't heard of the brand before and asked how they compared to some of the brand names I was used to. He muttered some smart @$$ed under his breath reply which I didn't quite hear fully. Instead of asking him to repeat himself as it'd likely have escalated, I said good luck selling these and left. Thought I'd give this place a try the other day and upon pulling in I noticed a "be back in five minutes" sign. Five minutes turned into ten and ten turned into twenty but I waited around as I was in need of some new boots and it isn't too often you stumble upon a boot store this far up north. Finally the owner pulled up and opened up the doors and let some customers in. I got up to the door and the door was locked. Finally Steve came up to the door and popped his head out and said very rudely "kinda hard to open the door if it's locked ain't it...what do you want?" I gave an uneasy laugh as I thought that maybe he was just joking around. I said that I wanted to look around and he creepily looked me up and down and said I wasn't aloud to shop in there. Not exactly sure why as I had a mask on (as the sign on the door asked customers to do) and was wearing normal street clothes. I was taken back by what he said and he then slammed the door in my face. This is the first time in my life I have felt so discriminated against at any business and for him to go as far as to tell me that I couldn't shop there is appalling. This guy. Wow wow wow. I went online to find a local store that sold Red Wing boots, just relocated to the neighborhood and do think shopping locally is important. That being said, I walk through the door and this man sitting slumped down behind his dingy counter asks me what brings me in, not so nicely, mind you. I told him I was looking for some work boots. He proceeds (5 minutes) to give me the 3rd degree on how he's being cheated because of online shoppers. (Hmmm, I think to myself, I'm standing your store). He then tells me most likely he doesn't have what I'm wanting... ummm, how would we know if you don't allow me to look around? Stopped in today after driving by a couple days ago to see what was available. Upon entering the store the owner introduced himself and said "he was there to help". Asked if we were looking for anything specific or just wanted to browse. We looked around and had any questions we had answered and even ended up sticking around for 15-20 minutes as we got talking. I can see how some would consider the owner gruff, but he was never unpleasant. I appreciate the honesty vs trying to sell us something we would be unhappy with. Which is actually what he did by recommending we not buy a boot that fit questionably because my wife wouldn't be happy down the road. If you want to argue internet prices it may not be the place for you. But I would think it would be worth a couple of bucks difference to actually be able to not only try a boot on, but have someone knowledgable assist you in picking the right shoe. Although I found the prices to be inline and fair. We bought 2 pairs of boots today, and next time we are in the area we will be back. read more

AVOID AT ALL COST Condescending, deceiving, rude, insulting (the list goes on). In case you're wondering all the 1 star reviews on here are accurate. Unfortunately I saw them after the fact. The owner was rude. Totally gave me the notion that I was bothering him. After my purchase, I decided I needed the money more than the boots so I went to return them. I explained that an unexpected expense showed up on my account and I just needed my money back. Boots hadn't even left the box as it was only mere hours after the purchase. He responded "We don't give money back here. You know why? Because people like you come in, find their size, use our services and then go online and buy them. All I can give you is store credit. It says in on your slip". Granted it did say it on the slip (in fine print at the bottom) but a return policy like that should be blatantly clear PRIOR to the purchase. I was originally going to accept the store credit but I won't be in this area again for a long time so unfortunately I have to keep the boots. Completely regret ever giving this guy my money. Also Another customer came in while I was trying on my boots and she asked if they had any cowboy/western style boots and he responds in a condescending tone "Well what do you want?". Clearly tripped up by the rudeness she said "well I don't really know, I just wanted to look around". Stopped in recently to check out this local spot. Have passed it for years and finally had a moment to visit. I was stunned at the RUDENESS of the Owner and his condescending attitude. Inquired about a zipper on my Harley Davidson boots and was accused of "abusing" and "blaming" the boot! Absolutely the most racist, homophobic person I've ever had the displeasure of doing business with. Unfortunately, we had already bought a pair of HD boots (very reasonably priced, btw - I have to be honest) before I fully realized what a jerk the salesman/owner was. First, he made a point of saying that his "pet peeve" was people who say "aks" instead of "ask". It was my husband who was talking at the time and I've never heard my husband say that, not in the 12 years I've known him. Fact is, he didn't say it but if he had, what difference should it make? Anywho, I explained that we were from New Orleans and that's the way people talk, and he said, "just because you're around blacks doesn't mean you have to talk like them". Ok, whatever. At least he didn't use the N- word, right? I guess...so THEN I mentioned Doc Martens and I thought he said they were "fad boots". (I'm fairly deaf.) Later, my husband told me he said "fag boots" and that he had said that once before when I wasn't there. REALLY?!? Had I known, we would have asked for a refund. Last thing - I told the server at a very nice establishment practically next door some of this. She was Hispanic and said that once, as soon as her and her husband entered the store, he immediately said that he didn't have anything for them. Like, immediately. My husband asked the price of a pair of boots and when told by the man working how much the boots cost my husband said to me I think that is more than we paid at x store. Not in a negative or critical way but as a statement to me. The man said "well let's see what we can do about that" taking the boot from my husband and walking toward the door indicating that we should follow him. He opened the door waved his hand indicating we should exit the store as he said "you can leave". We were shocked that someone would be so rude. I asked why he was being so rude to us. I uploaded the Yelp app specifically to write this review. That's how upset I am, was. It was my first visit to this store and, unfortunately, I had not read their reviews. I went there to purchase some work shorts for my husband. I've often heard good things about the Carhartt brand. The man who helped me was tolerable on my first visit, but then everything went sour. I had to exchange the two pairs of shorts for a different size. This time, the owner was a rude pig, talking about how men get "satisfied" by women so they gain weight. I was repulsed and couldn't leave the store fast enough. Turned out that my husband didn't really like the shorts, they were a very heavy material that would not be suitable for summer and the work he does on a golf course. I warned him of the owner's rudeness and sent him to do the return. Big mistake! The owner was obnoxious and insulting to my husband, calling him a "pussy" for not liking the shorts. My husband was shocked at the old man's tone and demeanor. Never in all our years have we encountered such an ass in retail. I wish I would've read the reviews of this place BEFORE shopping locally. I bought two pairs of boots in late November 22, 2017. One pair of boots started ripping in the high heel almost calf area. First noticed this January 06, 2018. That is 46 days total and worn only at most 15 days. So of course I am thinking I will stop by the store and see what their policy is. I bring the boots in on January 18, 2018 @ 4:30 pm. I learn the man that 'helped' me is Steve Gerrato, the owner. I state to him that I bought these not too long ago and they are already ripping and show him the boots as I place them on the counter. He decides to start off by saying "Well, I can tell that you are the reason why they are ripping? [giving me a shit eating grin]... you want to know how I can tell?" I look at him and say "sure tell me" and he says "You don't untie them talking them on and off." I look at him and say something like "you are kidding me [most likely rolling my eyes]" and he says "I know this because the boots are still ties up"... I look at him and say "You got to be kidding me. I tied them up to bring them in here, thinking you were going to help me return them"... I asked if he was going to help me out and he says "I can give you tape", I said no I don't want to tape them and asked again if he was going to help, if not, you lost a customer permanently. And he went demented and said "Just because of that..." as he opened his cash register and grabbed a 100 bill and a wad of 10s and threw them over the counter and AT ME. And started yelling "Here, how about that"... I was already a few feet away from the counter because as soon as he presented his detective story to me I was upset and felt my blood boiling. I walked out the door. He never talked about the return policy, never went to see if he had any other boots, offered an in store credit, nothing... just went straight to blaming me to craziness. This guy doesn't belong in customer service never mind owning a business. The guy is lucky that I didn't get a bodily injury because apparently in the State of New Hampshire that is how assault is defined. I went to the Hampton Police Station and that is what they had told me. If only I had gotten a paper cut. I would love for this guy to NOT be in my neighborhood or have to do tons of community service for all this harassment and assault he has been giving out in our neighborhood. Even the police officer I spoke with describe the owner using "douche", "dick", "asshole", and "mentally unstable." Before I went to the police station I went to a store across the street and chatted up the lady there. I really just wanted to know his name and she said "I don't know his name but I hear he is a jerk... why?" The whole area seems to know he is a jerk. So I can't believe he is still in business. The police officer said it is because he does have good deals once in a while compared to Amazon and other places. And there is no competition in the area at all.
