I saw Will's mobile sharpening vehicle along the roadside just a few blocks from my home. I ran home and grapped a couple of 25-year-old Henckels chef's knives. Will immediately recognized that the last guy to sharpen my knives did a horrible job, damaging the edges. Within minutes, Will repaired the damage, sharpened the knives, and made them look like they were brand new. I ran home and got five more knives, and Will did a magnificent job sharpening all of them. I expected the cost to be much higher than it was, but it was more than fair. Excellent attention to detail, I have some Shun Ken Onion knives and they had been neglected. Took them to have them sharpened and the handles refurbished, picked them up neatly wrapped in brown paper. On getting them home and unwrapping them I was surprised how they came out. Imagine you are in your quarantine kitchen, working on new recipes, and you go to slice a tomato and.... your knife bounces off the skin! Yes, I had DULL KNIVES! I happened to be driving down San Marin Drive and noticed the kiosk in front of Harvest Market... could it be? Yes, a savior, a knight in shining armor - Will, the knife sharpener! I flew home and gathered a collection of my worst offending blades and brought them to Will - he said they'd be ready before I could eat lunch and get back there! Well, he was right. All six blades were sharp again - you could slice a sheet of paper with them! But who'd want to do that anyway? Most kitchen accidents happen with DULL knives, not sharp ones. Six knives for $44 was VERY reasonable (Will charges by the inch). I'm ecstatic he's in the area, it's a lot better than sending knives out to be sharpened and waiting for their eventual return. Best knife sharpening shop in Marin. It was a total of 20 minutes for a pruner & and large knife. The pruner was very dark and discolored and had a screw loose. I could not believe how shiny and clean it was after he finished with it! read more

Given the amount of time we're spending at home, my husband and I decided to trim some of the unruly trees and shrubs on our property. We're not terribly proficient: Think "Green Acres" but with access to the internet for gardening instructions. At any rate, after a month of cutting back wood branches, our eight-year old, rusty pruners and other cutting instruments suddenly stopped making clean cuts. Clearly, they needed to be replaced, or sharpened. We found Will Karnofsky through a local gardening shop. We made an afternoon appointment, dropped off our five tools, and were told to come back in a few hours. When we picked them up, my husband almost didn't recognize the tools. I have used several knife sharpening services in the past to maintain my Wüstof knife collection and, well, they got the job done. Then I met Will. Wow. I thought I was getting quality work before, but not even close. Will takes pride in his work. First he took the time to examine each knife, noting their individual issues. Then I showed him my dull, rusted gardening tools and he accepted those as well! His prices are very fair and turn around time consistent. When I received my knives and tools back - I was in total AWE. Not only were they returned in knife protectors, but he had polished them! As for my "ready to be replaced" pruners and hedge trimmers, they looked almost new again. He took them apart, cleaned, sharpened, and polished the blades. They cut like a breeze, all of my tools. Very recently, I left some of our knives with Mr. Karnofsky to sharpen. Today, I had an occasion to use one of those knives that Will had worked on. I started slicing using a knife that previously I would not have even considered using on a tomato. Unbelievable! I can't wait to try the rest of the knives now. The knives came back razor sharp. All of them had been 'dressed' and they were presented back to me enclosed in sleeves to not only protect the blade but also me. And, the knives were ready to be picked up at the previously agreed to time. Wow! What a find. I have held onto a forged steel upholstery scissor for years hoping to find someone to sharpen them. Much to my surprise, Will Karnofsky was willing to do the job. Not only is Will a craftsman supreme, he is a perfectionist. These turn of the century scissors look like new and work perfectly. I called for info about location etc and instead of waiting for the nursery location once a week I dropped off the two knives at his home office.
