The Bristol Uni buildings are located all around the centre of the city, and most are very old and pretty. The university is pretty large, with around 13000 students, and they, along with their UWE counterparts, mean that the city is buzzing with life. The university does pretty well for itself; it's high in the league table, and draws a very Clifton-esque student population every year.

Up there in the heady heights of the league tables with Oxford and Cambridge, Bristol Uni is an old-skool red brick institution with some of the most prestigious medical courses, English and history degrees in the world. It looks all towering and cool at the top of park street and has educated comedy genii such as David Walliams, Matt Lucas, Chris Morris, Simon Pegg and errr Lembit Olpik, plus the famed feminist author Angela Carter (I'm bowing down to her as I write this). Stunning architecture and a past that stems back to 1876 - this is the educational and philosophical pulse of Bristol in all its glory.

Im sorry to rubbish all the other courses but there really are better places to go! (However, i believe the Art College it good but then again I don't think it's part of the uni) However, if you are going to university just to have fun this is the place to do it! The beach is 7 miles of golden sand, the nightlife is really good and caters for all tastes so whether you're in to hip-hop, r'n'b, pop, heavy metal... whatever, you'll be happy in Bournemouth. The town is very pretty, the array of shops isn't vast but it's enough. It has been rated by the gaurdian as the no.1 new university, and I certainly think it lives up to that reputation by virtue of its media and tourism courses. The animation course is said to be the no.1 in UK. The Multimedia journalism course is also counted among the top 4 or 5 media courses in the country. Till the final day when a spider the size of a small rodent was found going on a stroll in our rooms. Everything other than the constant and draining war with the spiders was lovely! Rooms were nice but the spider infestation left us uneasy.

The Sixth Form College Farnborough, unofficially known as Farnborough 6th, is one of the best state…read moresixth form colleges in the country. Led by college principal Dr John Guy, who is an extremely dedicated and passionate individual that is a credit to the insitution. The college itself has a number of buildings, most of them very modern, light and spacious and they are currently building a new multi storey building to house Art and Science subjects. There are several computer suites at the college, including the Dell suite and library which contains a large number of dell computers. The staff are all highly trained and passionate, giving the highest quality of A level education to students. This is reflected in their extremely high results at AS and A2. There are a number of cafés and eating areas at the college, including Café Direct which focuses on selling fair trade products, Time Out which sells hot main meals at lunch times, and Shades which is on the other side of the campus and serves a range of pasta and noodle dishes, and sandwiches. The students here are encouraged to flourish both independently within their studies and socially within the many clubs, sports and societies available. This really is a sixth form college with a university feel.

Some of the buildings are open to the public - some are not. We were there on a Sunday and most were not. I was happy to be on a guided walking tour with a tour guide who was knowledgeable about the university. I would highly encourage a guided tour if you have the time. This is a beautiful campus/city and there is a wealth of history attached to both the city and the university. This was definitely worth the trip from London where we were staying.

Quality/Quantity - Wanted to take a break from all that tourist stuff, so we decided to visit…read moreOxford University. Did not realize that they had so many "schools" here. We tried to find the main campus, but struggled. Was it because we came on a Saturday? Or because we came after all the students already started summer break a few weeks ago. My wife was happy to come during the break; I prefer visiting during the school year to see the liveliness. Overall, we had a good time visiting as many of their schools, libraries, campuses, churches, etc. as possible. Was not surprised that this place was so touristy; schools make so much additional $$ giving paid tours and/or charging admissions to enter. Also, we were fortunate enough to have visited when the museum sponsored a free event for the kids, see pictures. Lastly, I took a nice local beer break in one of their libraries. So cool to be able to have a beer in a library, might be a first for me. Back in my college days, we had to go to the student union pub. Atmosphere - Beautiful, cool, and historic. Schools spread out over a few mile radius, so be prepared to walk if you want to visit. We grabbed a hop on hop off map as a guide of places to visit, see picture. Service - Good. Price - Depends on which schools tour and admission costs. A few, very few, campuses were free. Owner Comment - Great town to visit, nice break from London. I suggest visiting during the school year.

But its the relationship between Brookes and Oxford that has brought this university into the new century. By sharing teaching staff and resources, both universities have been benefiting in key areas. From a student point of view, Brookes cant be beat. Located in a great city, close to london, and 1000s upon 1000s of other students, and the most student friendly city i have ever been. Not that you would go to qype when making the decison on what university to go tobut if be some odd chance, you do.check it out. It could be the best 3 years of your life

Oxford Brookes is a great university with lots of opportunities. It really doesn't deserve its past…read morereputation of 'the other Oxford' and can't really be compared to Oxford University itself, as they offer lots of different subjects and frequently pool resources. Brookes is especially good for nursing, business and management and draws big names at its regular careers fairs. Some campuses are a bit out of town, but there's a great bus service that travels frequently between the campuses and town. The sports centre is open to the public and has regular classes and a good gym, as well as a popular bar. Brookes is good for its nightlife and has some good bands playing there and some great student nights, which make up for its distance from the town centre. In fact, the facilities on campus mean that students don't actually need to travel into town, although they're missing out if they don't.
