Similar to the Folk House on Park Street in town, this is a setting for a collection of classes for…read moreadults. They range from art and photography to yoga and scrabble. Bafflingly also includes a Flight Simulator Group and fantastical Wargames Society. There are also some seriously high level classes in association with Bristol University such as African history, aspects of psychology, and talks on opera. A little cafe downstairs allow for a coffee and gossip - everyone is very friendly and welcoming. One of its aims is to foster community spirit and it certainly does that. You have to enrol on a certain day, or be recommended by a current member. Membership is just £12. If you are not sure then there are contact numbers for the group leaders and you can usually sit in on a class to help you decide. The building was saved from demolition as it was intended that the very busy Overndale Road was to be widened. The site is still cared for by volunteers since its opening in 1970 with nice gardens round the edge and clean car park.

This is a great little local centre where you can do all kinds of different courses for so many…read moredifferent weeks and for many different prices for each every course. I've taken some good writing courses and creative crafting courses there. They chop and change their course names and subjects regularly so checking their website or by going down to the centre and then asking for information at the reception desk in the main entrance. To go to the centre alone is free; but you pay for your class, either by paying for several weeks in advance or by paying just for that class and then just for every class that you turn up for. However, I got the feeling that they do prefer you to pay a full advance payment for the several weeks or so that you take the class for. The courses are entertaining and interesting and the prices are reasonable enough because of what you discover and learn from them is very satisfying and ultimately worthwhile. I do very much recommend this place, which is situated on Hammond Way road within the Penylan area. It is near to Albany and Wellfield road and Colchester Avenue.

The Gartholwg lifelong learning centre in Church village is a new building and a new concept in…read moreeducation .Teaching subjects that are usually outside normal educational institutions. For example they run courses such as 'computers for kids' For children aged 6-11 years , 'French for children' ages 5-11 and a drama academy for children also aged 5- 11. There is in addition many courses for adults. Under arts and crafts there is pottery, glass painting, and copper jewellery and many others. In other departments you can learn belly dancing ( if you are in to that! ) and Yoga, creative writing, cooking, sign language, Spanish, French and German. Basic photography, computing and many others The building also has a fully equipped sound studio that you can hire with a qualified audio engineer for £25 an hour. Also in the building is housed the local public library with the free use of computers This is only a brief outline of the activities that the centre provides . There is a free car park quite often very full . But I have always managed to find a place. .There are also other interesting activities at the centre For example on January 21 at 2pm Helen Charles the youngest survivor of a torpedoed world war two ship recounts her experiences' being rescued from the ship. Finally there is no group that can replace ABBA, They were unique, but I am told the group 'BJORN BELIEF' come very close in simulation . They are performing at the centre on Friday 6 th February The bar is open at 7.30pm and after the performance there is a 70/80's disco That's one I will not miss!
