Similar to the Folk House on Park Street in town, this is a setting for a collection of classes for adults. They range from art and photography to yoga and scrabble. Bafflingly also includes a Flight Simulator Group and fantastical Wargames Society. There are also some seriously high level classes in association with Bristol University such as African history, aspects of psychology, and talks on opera.
A little cafe downstairs allow for a coffee and gossip - everyone is very friendly and welcoming. One of its aims is to foster community spirit and it certainly does that.
You have to enrol on a certain day, or be recommended by a current member. Membership is just £12. If you are not sure then there are contact numbers for the group leaders and you can usually sit in on a class to help you decide.
The building was saved from demolition as it was intended that the very busy Overndale Road was to be widened. The site is still cared for by volunteers since its opening in 1970 with nice gardens round the edge and clean car park. read more
