Located high above most of Bristol, and just 10 minutes from Park Street, St Michael on the Mount…read moreis easily accessible for anyone using public transport or walking. The actual school is situated just behind a very attractive church, meaning it is off the main road and is very private. The school is divided into two main buildings - one for Key Stage 1 and the other for Key Stage 2. Classroom size is a little on the small side, especially for KS2's, however there doesn't seem to be a feel of overcrowding. The teachers are all wonderful. There is a clear sense of dedication and it feels that every teacher really cares for each student. Children come from all backgrounds, with many having English as their 2nd language. There is a number of extra support staff who regularly takes small groups off to another room for extra help which is a very positive point. The school also benefits from the Outreach Scheme, which is a government funded organisation which places students from the University of the West of England into schools to aid the teachers. After speaking to a number of staff at St Michaels, it is apparent that they are extremely grateful for the additional help that the Outreach Scheme provides. There are morning and after school clubs offered, and also an option for school dinners or packed lunches. All young children are given milk and fruit for snacks and regularly encouraged to run around outdoors. A word of warning though, if driving, the lane leading into the schools car park is very long and narrow meaning only one car can fit down it resulting in a lot of congestion in the mornings and after school.

This is an ever expanding primary school on a housing development in Fleet. It is currently…read moreundergoing a huge extension that is due to be finished in April 09, but is currently just a metal frame! In the infant part of the school there are three classes to each year group (Year R - 2) and in Juniors there are just 2 classes per year group, although the extension is being built to accommodate more. The school is around five years old and very modern and well equipped with interactive white boards in every classroom (why are schools so proud of these!) and an IT room with a computer for each child. There is a large, well stocked library just inside the main entrance with a huge flat screen TV on the wall showing photos and short films of school trips and holidays. There are Art, Cookery and Music rooms, as well as tables and chairs outside the classrooms for small group work. There is a full range of afterschool and lunchtime clubs available for children, at various prices. There really is something for everyone but they are heavily subscribed so children are often disappointed. The school is very attractive, and nicely landscaped and the children have a playing field, two playgrounds and a courtyard to the front of the school. Most classes have a class pet or two -mostly rabbits and guinea pigs, and the children take it in turns to bring them home for the weekend or holidays. I am not going to comment on the standards of education, as I am only a parent and only have my own children to compare but the school has received good OFSTED reports.
