It started off ok. My son started here as a foster baby from CPS. When he was close to being 1, I had the CPS caseworker witness a giant bite on his arm and he continued to get bit. Sometimes we wouldn't even get a report or were told he was bit until we got home and saw it ourselves. Fast forward to he's almost 2, and we have officially adopted him. Someone there told me that our son was the "only one" biting, then one of the directors told me that there are other kids biting, just our son bites more often. OF COURSE THERE ARE OTHER KIDS BITING because our son started biting because HE was getting bit!! So their policy is after 2 bites you pick up your child. Some lady told me that our son bit 4 people and needed to get picked up. We get there and it was 3, but the same child and in one hour. This tells me that a) they need to watch the two more carefully b) there needs to be more supervision. Let's say the ratio is 1:6... if there is so much biting, maybe get an extra floater in that room because toddlers are not completely verbal yet. They tried to tell me stuff like I don't have 4 kids and a masters degree in early childhood, or have been teaching from preschool to high school for 18 years. My son would come home with stuff that wasn't his, and we would send it back, but it would come back with him...they lost my baby's first blanket, a teacher got all upset with me because I was asking for his bottle that kept getting lost. One poor lady there when my husband drops our son off is there with so many kids by herself and a tv. We would send things for our son and they'd ask for the stuff again (like diapers) and then they would say hmm not sure what happened. They asked for wipes recently and then I find an old brand of wipes in the stuff they sent home his last day plus new ones I had sent .... So he probably didn't need them yet. I even had former workers and parents tell me months ago to pull him and I didn't. One worker said there was just not enough supervision there, yet they insist there is. A mom told me she pulled her daughter for the same reason: biting. Obviously this means there needs to be more adults, regardless of what the state says. If it's an issue, you don't go with minimum standards. I loved a couple of his teachers, but it felt like they weren't working with him except for his last week there , suddenly he had a good week the last week he was there . WHAT CHANGED ?? Did he magically stop biting for two days ?? We still weren't allowed to go back where the classrooms were even though hospitals and schools have lifted that mandate. One time my husband even witnessed a lady yelling outside about how they made her pay to save a spot and they wouldn't give her money back when they told her the spot was no longer available. Even the cops had to show up. Our son has a propensity for possibly developing ADHD due to exposure at birth, and other medical issues and I kept asking them for patience and to work with him. I just was so frustrated because one lady was all saying that training starts at home like we don't do anything. He is there 8 hours, so just like with me as a teacher and I have to have a partnership with parents, so do they. How are you going to blame me for something he is doing THERE when I'm not there ? We tell him all the time "no bite." We watch him when he's playing and he's been to church and places with other kids yet not bit anyone. They say trust your gut and both me and hubby were getting a feeling that something wasn't all the way right. Our son was bit the last week there : NO ONE TOLD US. I asked and someone said they wrote a report. When I said "but did I sign it? Because I didn't get anything to sign." The director didn't even acknowledge that and said oh your son was loved on like everyone else. But HIS BITE, ma'am, that no one told us about??? Or the other ones that we had to find out on our own by looking at our son's body? But when he bit, oh everyone and their mom was all calling us and telling us he bites everyone, and he's the only one, but others say he wasn't the only one (obviously since he has bites too). But where is that concern for OUR son when HE is bit??? Just glad he is going elsewhere now. I gave 3 stars instead of 2 because his teacher Ana he loves SO much and always asks for and talks about at home. He walks around saying her name, so I KNOW he is treated well by her. She is the ONLY one he talks about. She knows how boy toddlers are and is great at her job. Highly recommend Ms. Ana P.
UPDATE: since moving him to another daycare, my child has not had ONE instance of biting. He hasn't bit at all, nor has he been bit. Makes you wonder. read more
