I still have nothing but good things to say about his PA; she is absolutely wonderful and thorough with her care of my ear. Initially, Dr Syms listened to my concerns and provided the necessary reassurance that he and his team would be able to provide. They lived up to that until after the pandemic. It was at that time that he changed his office's culture through a lax, unprofessional interactions and environment changes. It began with front office staff disappearing and some young kid with a salesman approach to "welcoming" patients happened. First issue is the kid that greets patients as they come in. He may be the nicest kid ever, but his approach is akin to a slimy car salesman. I am going to the office to ensure that my serious ear condition is taken care of and I will be able to stay alive with their continued care...and yes, my condition is that serious. This kid's lack of respect for the reality of the patient's current existence diminishes the status of what service Dr Syms provides. I can't believe that's the messaging of his brand that Dr Syms wants his current and prospective patients to experience before actually being seen by him or his PA. Second, I went to the Surprise location and was incredibly surprised about the fact that a doctor's office that focuses on neuro otology (serious conditions) would create an office environment that was no different than a pop-up, back ally doctor's office vibe. It didn't feel clean, sterile, and did not reflect the seriousness of why ear patients see one of less than a handful of neuro otologists in AZ. This concierge model of medical care for serious ear conditions is misguided and does the opposite of what patients expect. This model of care is better suited for spas, beauty, etc...but I want to trust that my doctor is going to respect the seriousness of my condition and his approach to care mirrors that need.

This is one of the worst medical experience I've encountered in some time. The doctor appeared 45…read moreminutes after the scheduled time and 50 minutes after the hearing test. The reason given by the Dr her self was she had two chatty patients before me. This is not a Dr who deals with emergency situations. This level of tardiness can only reflect a poor organization. Time to update your practices and procedures or hire new staff.

After many decades of drumming and taking every opportunity to see the awesome bands of my day, my…read moretinnitus became more than a minor daily annoyance. I knew I needed help with my tinnitus and hearing loss, but I didn't want to be one of those persons who spends a gob of money on hearing aids, then doesn't use them. And here's where Dr. Kelly Hanscom really helped me out. I sport a shaved head, so it's not like I have luscious locks to help hide hardware behind my ears, so I really wanted to go with jamming the whole shootin' match in my ear. Dr. Kelly advised me on the available options and clearly explained the pros and cons of the different styles of hearing aids. I used a set of loaner hearing aids until my ordered units came in. Dr. Kelly tuned the loaners (and then my person devices) so that I would receive greater amplification of the frequencies in which my hearing is deficient. But she didn't overdo it. This seems to be where a lot of new hearing aid users experience frustration. I've heard several people say, "I'd wear them, but they're too dang loud!" Dr. Kelly artfully managed the acuity and volume of my hearing aids over the course of three months. As she explained, if a new user gets too much volume at first, it can be "jarring." That's the perfect word. So, over the course of three months, Dr. Kelly eased me into the "power" of my new hearing aids, and she also spent plenty of time ensuring that the fit is perfect and that I understand how to maintain and care for my new devices. I love wearing my hearing aids. It's been four months. The tinnitus therapy is wonderful! In fact, my wife can tell by my mood at the end of the day if I have been wearing my hearing aids. Without the tinnitus therapy, she says I am noticeably more anxious by day's end. And don't forget to say 'hello' and be nice to Franchesca at the front desk. After just a few visits, she had my name down and she regularly offers me cookies when I visit. Don't struggle another day with your tinnitus and hearing deficiencies. It's not only affecting your quality of life, but it's also affecting the quality of life of your family, friends, loved ones, and co-workers.

I went to front to schedule an MRI with the lady up front and gave her my information and then asked to use their restroom and Dr Folz told me I couldn't use the bathroom I said we'll this ones in use and he then said okay go ahead and use the other restroom I guess. I was advised to have expensive tests to figure out these episodes I am having in the night. The test results showed nothing but I was left with a huge bill. I told them I was getting off the cancer-causing drugs, and they just turned around and recommended I try a different drug. This clinic is a money-making business and does not attend to the patient getting good sleep. I asked for records and did not get them. I asked about a complaint process and just was giving a phone number to leave a message at. No one called me back. I DO NOT recommend this clinic.

I have never had an experience like I just had at this diagnostic laboratory. I was told to…read morepromptly arrive at 7:30a. No one got to the center until 7:45a, at which time a surly and antagonistic "neurodiagnostic techninician" named Britt (male) could barely mumble a hello. Once taken back by "Britt", I was ordered to remove my pants and don a blue pair of paper shorts. When I asked him if he could tell me a little bit more about the procedure I was having (EMG), he stated "Just put the shorts on and lay down on the table." Okay. Once he re-entered the room, I had to ask him his name. There was no introduction. While he was gathering what he needed, I asked him "What are your credentials?" He rattled off a couple of certifications that apparently permitted him to attach electrodes to my legs. There was no bedside manner at all; he said absolutely nothing to me except "pulsing now." I tried to tell him that I was a bit anxious about a procedure for which I had heard was exceedingly painful. I asked him, who does the second part of the procedure? He again rattled off some doctor's name that I couldn't pronounce if you paid me. "Britt" continued his electrode-busy work, not caring at all when I asked him to stop sending pulses through my ankles. It hurt terribly. "Britt" completed his ritualistic assault of everything neural in my lower extremities, gathered up his crap, and left with a flippant "Take care." Now enters a slovenly-looking, previously unidentified doctor something-or-other, shuffling his feet, and mumbling a quasi-introduction. He kept mumbling "okay, okay" to himself when I wasn't even asking any questions. When I asked him to clarify exactly WHAT he was going to do to me, he stated that he was going to insert needles deep into many muscles "from my hip to my feet" over and over again to measure the neural activity. When I shared my fear of needles, he said "it will hurt." I had a baaadd feeling deep in my gut - and my gut is never, ever wrong. I apologized and said, "Yeah, I'm not doing this." His response was (of course), "Okay, okay... [mumble, mumble]." I sat up, took off the blue paper shorts, and hightailed it out of there. On my way out, the front desk lady (who had finally made it work ), was literally screaming at me "Ma'am! Ma'am!" I didn't look back. This was, quite possibly, one of the worst medical experiences of my life. My heart was pounding when I got back to my car. As I am in the field of medical malpractice, I could not help the feeling that I had just dodged a bullet. I cannot believe that with today's technology we cannot figure out a better way to measure neural activity in our bodies. Until that day comes, I'll just sit here and be numb in my feet, thank you.

The ONLY reason this didn't get a 5 star rating was because the doctor did not wear his face mask properly - it was not covering his nose or mouth, he wore it on his chin. There is no excuse for a doctor to not wear a face mask properly during a global pandemic.
