And the times when it was truly called the Ruski Hotel are now over as well - as the Ruble is not doing too well. Rooms fairly ok, need some rework but the bathrooms are in dire need of upgrading/ or they should rebrand as a vintage funky 70s place. Two years ago a Steigenberger, the gps (three years old) finds it as a Radisson blue, it's now a Wyndham. Speaking of getting there - don't let yourself be fooled by the fact that you are routed through a pedestrian area. Just give in and embrace the excitement and (false) feeling of doing something illegal - drive. To end on an upbeat note: Breakfast buffet is decent, yet again this insane 80s decor of mirrored food islands, brass and garage carpet...

It is right in the heart of the Fussganger Zone of Bad Reichenhall. You, literally, walk out front and hang a left and you are walking along the walking area of shopping and right around the corner of a beautiful park. No complaints about the staff, that were very friendly and accommodating. Parking isn't free, but conveniently around the corner. I think we paid about 7 Euros per day. Our room was absolutely HUGE, by American standards. The bathroom even has a bidet, with towel warmers and a double sink. It's quite dated, however. We ate at the Axel Stube, that was once a thriving restaurant where the locals hung out. It's not that way any longer, I am afraid. The bar was even sadder. We sat there, for an after dinner drink and there were only two other customers. My cousin, who still lives here, says that the locals just don't come here any longer. As for the breakfast buffet, they do a lovely job. I still love the old world charm of the breakfast area, with the large windows and view of the garden. I don't know how this place can liven up again, because I hate to see this place close down and be boarded up. She's still a grand lady, and I would stay here again.

It's so hard to write this glowing review, because I miss this place so much. Bad Reichenhall is…read morewhere my mother was born and raised, until right after WWII. We lived here until I was 8 years old (father was American military). I've come here a few times over the last few decades, but returned here after a 25 year absence to return my mother's ashes. We used to come here when this was an actual restaurant. This place is absolutely lovely! The owners are so friendly, and speak fluent English. Our room was sheer heaven-- overlooking the Schlafende Hexe mountain range, with a view of the Predigstuhl-- all landmarks I remember as a child. Our room was HUGE, with a lovely balcony overlooking their pond. We were there in October, with beautiful fall colors everywhere. We had a lovely sitting area, with a desk, couch and recliner. The bathroom had a double sink, shower and bathtub...and the floors were heated! Nice! Morning breakfast was amazing. There was always a freshly baked cake-- apple, plum, lots of fruit choices, eggs, breads, cold cuts and cereals. I loved sitting by the window overlooking the pasture, watching the cows graze. It was like a scene out of "The Sound of Music" (thought that's officially in Salzburg, Austria). It's just a five minute drive to downtown Bad Reichenhall and so quiet and peaceful at night. It's about 30 minutes to Berchtesgarten. We are coming back in 2018 and I am definitely going to book our room here.
