Traditional Turkish style lanterns hang from the ceiling, the music that plays over the sound system is chosen by guests, there's a laptop playing music on YouTube available for you. The shisha quality is consistent and very good. You'll notice the pipes are Khalil Mamoon and the tubes are sturdy Starbuzz pipes. I think the tobacco they use is Al-Fakher. There's no food but if you can believe it they don't mind if you have pizza delivered there or bring something in to eat. In terms of drinks they have a selection of those Arabic malt drinks called Barbican, an espresso machine and of course Moroccan mint tea. Overall, if you're looking for a place where your squad will feel welcome and comfortable to chill, Cafe Ali-Baba is for you.

The tables are large, in case you want to study or work. I ordered several cookies and a cold brew. The cookies were amazing, I shared them between some friends and no crumbs were left alive. The cold brew was just okay, not amazing but good enough. The space for pottery is large and while I haven't taken a class, I would love to do that in the future. Came with little croutons and bread. We also got a piece of banana, coffee, and peanut butter cake. Pretty good for a vegan cake. It wasn't dry and the peanut butter icing was just sweet enough. I had a cold mochaccino with coconut milk and it was ok, I really don't like coffee that much though so maybe that's why I didn't love it. I thought it was bitter still even though there was only a bit of coffee in it. I needed a bit of caffeine to kick start my Sunday and that's why I got it. What I really like about this cafe is that they offer pottery classes in the building over. We could see the class while we ate, it looked fun! They also sell the creations of some of their Montreal artists in store. Service is also very nice and they are very friendly when answering questions about the menu.

Mama J was such a delight to speak to over the phone and in person. I called her before once I arrived so we could socially distance while she transferred the cake to me. She even helped me get my cake into my bag! Mama J had said she would look forward to cooking my cake with love and care. And I felt it. All of the textures and flavors matched together so well, yet I could also eat a layer by itself and still be satisfied. From top to bottom are the pecan crumble, sweet potato, cheesecake, and more pecan crumble Simply put, it's the best cheesecake I've ever had. I highly recommend Mama J if you're looking for a professional baker who infuses her warmth and essence into her cakes. I can't wait for my next Mama J cake!

Great Japanese Curry!…read more Shocked to taste a great tonkatsu curry here. This might have been one of my favorite Japanese curries ever to be honest. The pork was crunchy and tender, the rice pillowy and up to the task of soaking up all the great curry. I didn't leave any curry sauce behind. The matcha was also equally on par. The shop is somewhat depressed into the surrounding landscape which made it difficult to recognize at first, it definitely added to the aura of a hidden find. The only annoyance was that it was packed with, let's say, entitled college students, parked for what seemed like the long haul buried in their laptops who couldn't be bothered at all because whatever they were working on was of the utmost priority. I'm sure they were all working on brokering world peace or the cure for cancer. LOL. The matcha was strong, which I appreciated. The sandwich was very meaty, though I wasn't a fan of some of the rib meat pieces. Overall, I'd say it's a hipster hangout with a solid menu. Just be sure to get there before the kitchen closes at 3 p.m. and even earlier if you have your heart set on something specific.
