Turkey panini sandwich from the deli
Yonnie C.

This supermarket is located in the famous Woodwards's building in the heart of Gastown. It was early morning when we passed by and got a hint of the fresh bread baking in the deli area. We stepped inside to buy some sandwiches + soup. (1) Turkey panini sandwich (with spinach, cheese, pesto mayo) - if you ask, they'll warm it up for you; tastes great! $6.95 (2) chicken soup - you scoop it yourself, sizes vary by cup or bowl There are a couple seats (and sofas) in the deli area for you to sit down and enjoy your meal / snack. Bonus: FREE WI-FI! :) Friendly staff.

I love Nesters! I'm always at the deli hovering over the wide variety of different hot and cold foods they have and everything seems extremely well priced. I used to love drinking their soups when they were $1.99 for a small but now that they're $2.99 I don't buy it too often anymore... Their $0.29 mini eclairs are really good and I usually buy half a dozen to snack on throughout the day. I would say that their chicken breast + mojo potatoes would be the best deal here since you get pretty much a quarter of a whole BBQ chicken and a bunch of wedge fries. Their sandwiches are also very affordable and their cake slices are decent as well.

To start this off. I have three words to say that got me soooo excited about coming to this location. I used to go to Nesters in Whistler whenever I was there and of course the one downtown whenever I could go. This place has history and nostalgia written all over it's location. So what is it that makes this place so special? Three words: Woodwards Peanut butter. or put them together and what have you got? Yummmy nostalgic goodness. Is it realy as good as you remember? I dont know yet. they sold out at 10 am and we arrived at 8pm. We'll be back on Thursday to hopefully get some of this history in a jar. It certainly brought back memories and just for that, I plan to come back and recommend this location because of simply what it is. Location, Location, Location. cya soon! Oh yeah. I have to say this. $1.49 day Tuesdays!

I used to think Nesters was a just an overpriced specialty grocery store. Now that I stop by here almost every day, I realize it's not! I actually really like Nesters. Yes, some things are a bit pricier than other stores, but overall I find it pretty comparable. There's always a good selection of fresh produce, they have a huge deli, and they've got pretty decent dairy section. I also love that they carry Mario's Gelato, the staff are always really nice, and where else can you find a whole cake covered in sprinkles?

Good selection. Prices are very high for what you are getting. For being a market in an inner city it was decent!

In Illinois, we used to have many IGA's in smaller towns, especially in the more rural parts of the state. They were always reliable little grocery stores with a good selection of your basic needs and many were put out of business by Walmart. Imagine my surprise to find this gem in a bustling Canadian city! There was a really nice selection of produce, as well as anything else you could need from the grocery store. The deli counter had a great selection and the person there was really charming and helpful and giving some recommendations on salads I have not heard of before. The store seemed very clean and efficiently organized for maximizing what can be offered in an urban grocery store. Plus, as an American, it was m fun to walk around the aisles and see what's the same or different.

**Update 8/28/26** Oh, how my opinion of this store has…read morechanged over the years - and not for the better. When I first moved to Vancouver in 2017, I came to this store a few times when I was shopping nearby at Canada Tire, and this store was my occasional go-to for individual items. I never did the bulk of my grocery shopping here. That said, I found this store to be pretty decent for the occasional bag of sugar or carton of milk (see my review, below, from 2017). But every time I've been here since, I've had a negative experience. EVERY TIME. So much so that I purposefully go out of my way NOT to shop here. Ever. This is my least favorite grocery store in the city. I've encountered rude cashiers here, mis-priced items, minimal store staff to help me find something when I needed it, consistently overpriced items, and yes, the paid parking is the proverbial straw on the camel's back. Yesterday I was reminded of all the reasons I dislike this store. I was going to a dr's appointment nearby and wanted to buy some flowers for my dr (she just returned from a protracted maternity leave). It was early (8:40 am). There was no staff in the small floral department. I browsed all the bouquets and potted flowers and plants and chose a mid-range ceramic pot with healthy, colorful flowers in it. (They have some really cute ceramic planters and very healthy flowering plants here. Nice!). I wanted to put a little card in the pot that says "Welcome Back!" (you know, those free small rectangular cards you get at ANY floral dept in ANY grocery store or florist, with the plastic stick, stuck in the soil of the planter?). Since no-one was manning the floral counter, I took my potted flowers and reached over to get one of the small cards, and I was looking for a stick. Immediately a male employee was at my back, saying I can't get that! I showed him the potted flowers I was purchasing and said, oh, I am buying this pot, I just need one card and stick to put in the soil, it's a gift. (Weird how the employee was immediately there when I was getting this, but when you need an employee for assistance here, they're never around). The guy says that the cards are only for bouquets of flowers, NOT the potted flowers. (This makes no sense whatsoever. The potted plants range in price from $5-$30+ for the potted orchards. Many bouquets cost less than this. Yet they only give the little cards out for bouquets? Really? When the potted plants cost the same or more than bouquets? What?). The guy added, if I wanted a gift card for my potted flowers, it'd cost 50 cents. Like, WTH, these little cards are free at EVERY floral dept I've been to in my entire life! And to add insult to injury, when I said okay, I'll buy one, they didn't even have any of the sticks to place the cards in the pot! Like, what's the use of a card if you can't place it in the pot???? Oh, but my story doesn't end there. I brought my potted flowers to the cashier since the self check-out wasn't working for me. The girl at the cash rang up my flowers at nearly double what they cost (they were on sale. There were tons of sale signs posted prominently in the floral dept). I called her out on it and she scrolled through her phone at the store circular to find out, indeed, yes, these were on sale and the price that was rung up on the cash was very off. Took a while for her to find this error and then re-ring me up at the correct price. For a 5-minute side trip to this store to get a little gift for my doctor, from beginning to end, it was such a negative experience. All I can say is, if you do shop here, know what you need as it's usually next to impossible to find people to help you, know that most employees here are not friendly, know that the prices of items are usually higher than comparable stores, know that the floral department is a total joke, and definitely watch each and every price when they ring you up. (This was not the first time I encountered a big discrepancy in their advertised price vs. what they charge you for items at the cash).

The store's layout is clean and well-organized, with clearly marked aisles that make navigating through the shelves a breeze. I think Joti's No Frills focuses on what truly matters - providing a wide selection of pantry staples, household essentials as well as international items at budget-friendly prices. I occasionally also get their no-name brand products because it helps me save significantly on my grocery bills. Their produce section is not as extensive as some of the other grocery stores but again, it is budget friendly. I would say that if you are looking to buy produce from here, I would recommend going during the day time because most of their fresh produce are gone by evening. One area where Joti's No Frills could improve is the variety of specialty and organic products. While the store does carry some, expanding this selection in my opinion could attract a broader range of customers. I also really like their reusable shopping bags because of their size and sturdiness. The staff are friendly and always quick to help at the checkout counter. Another big thing for me is that they don't take American Express or Mastercard which reduces my incentive to go there often. Having said that, if you're looking for a no-nonsense grocery shopping experience that won't break the bank, Joti's No Frills is certainly worth a visit.
