Just had an Oprah moment: Went to the Nespresso Shop in Berlin Friedrichstraße together with my Franka und our daughter in a buggy. Dressed quite leisurely (funny T-shirt, hoody and an overcoat). The posh lady at the coffee counter looked me up and down. She frowned. And then asked me whether I was a member, or wanted to become one. She then asked me to show her my membership card. Very surprised I told her that it would be the first time that I had to show her such a card in order to get a free coffee there. That was when she told me: "Well, you know, there is always a first time." (Franka later told me I should have replied: "So, tell me, when will be yours, lady!" I am not that spontaneous, though. And it would have been quite mean.) So I wipped out my wallet and showed her. I DO have a Nespresso machine at home. And I drink Nespresso coffee quite regularly. So I do have a "Membership Card", as well (but you usually don't need that). She then reluctantly served me a sample of the new coffee tastes. Once I was finished I left without a further word. All the while I was standing at the counter there were other people coming and going. She not even once asked anybody to show her a proof of membership. I guess I was dressed not well enough for her taste. (This is Berlin, by the way, I never ever thought you had to dress up here to walk down Friedrichstraße!) Thank you very much, nice lady. You made me feel like a drunken homeless. How sad a feeling. And thanks for the coffee and the perfect service, Nespresso! read more
