The Valley at Neshanic is a beautiful venue for any occasion! Our son and daughter-in-law were married there in May 2026 on site with a wonderful reception following. The whole experience from our first visit to the wedding day was very well coordinated by the catering sales manager Julia. All of our wishes were accommodated. She was so helpful in walking us through the process, letting us know exactly what we needed to do and when. The wedding could not have been better! All of our guests were so pleased with the elegant ballroom and scenic views of the surrounding golf course. Everyone mentioned how delicious and plentiful the food was as well as how attentive all of the staff and servers were. There was a peaceful air to the entire event. It's official, Neshanic's decline has begun. Conditions get worse and playing time gets longer. Easily can pick up dozens of divots in a two foot area, greens are getting brown dents because when you don't fix the pitch mark, it doesn't heal. It is a shame what's happening. read more

Finding The Valley at Neshanic and booking it for our NJ December 2023 wedding truly felt like finding a hidden treasure or a diamond in the rough! They don't have too much information online or on social media but don't let that scare you away! This is a beautiful venue that I don't feel gets the credit it deserves! I love NV and the people there and the course is beautiful . Facilities are awesome too The issues are - greens are slow and players have no respect for the greens. Leave divots and never fix them. Many of us has asked them to speed the greens up like Heron Glen or Quail Brook - no staff moving the pace of play any more so players just done care out there and break all the rules of play read more

Beautiful course and was excited to play. Paid the $50 twilight fee for a 4:40 tee time. I expected to get in at least 14-15 holes, but the pace of play isn't being regulated (COVID). It took us over 2:30 just to play 9. We stood around most of the time and it wasn't enjoyable. To me, pacing a 5 hour plus round is unacceptable. I took the issue to Al, the manager, and was immediately shut down and was given a laundry list of justifications. I've never asked for a refund, or money back from a golf course but felt it was deserved in this case. If this is the norm, I don't think I'll be back. It's a shame because Neshanic is a beautiful course. read more

Took off a Monday to play golf with my manager and another fellow coworker. Yeah I know...life sucks... just taking one for the team here. This course is a bit far for me, being a JC guy and all but It was WELL worth it!!! WE played a full 18 and the course was nice to me. Par golf is always acceptable when you are Davis J. The restaurant on location was decent, almost like bar food. However the drinks were on point. Full bar! Since it was a Monday I figured the cart girl wasn't working (not many people on the course) but if she was I would assume her service would have been on point as well. If I someone wants to pay for me to play golf there (especially on a workday) again I am there! No question about it! I recommend this place. read more

Finally had the chance to play a Somerset County course and Neshanic was it. It's essentially 3 9-holes. Not sure I how I've never played here before? First impression driving up..it looks rather serene and open with a LOT of fescue. Bag drop off is right by the parking lot..and the pro shop is just a few steps beyond bag drops. I like that since we didn't need to trek it far. The golf carts are in great shape, not overly beat up and not filthy. After grabbing 2 bottles of water that came with the round, we were ready to go. The starter was super helpful and pointed out where to go. We played Ridge to Meadow. The course is in great shape for a county course. Not beat up. The drink/snack cart came around quite a few times during our round. You MUST keep to the fairways where or you will be in the freaking fescue. Ask me bc I lost a few golf balls in there, ha! Even with that, I'd love to come back again. Hahaha. read more

For a public golf course, Neshanic is a good as it gets. For mid and high handicappers, the Ridge and Lake are challenging. Course is in top notch condition. This course puts the Essex County courses to shame. Definitely worth the drive from Montclair. read more

I was here for an outing today. Played 2 of the 3 courses (Meadow n Lake). The course itself was in great condition. Some challenging holes n I'd say it is mediocre as far as course difficulty level overall. Upon finishing our round, tired n hungry n thirsty, we went to the buffet which was provided by the on-site kitchen. The food was borderline garbage. Not what you'd normally expect for a buffet. Basically was ground patties piled on top of each other, a basket of hot dogs w/ buns offered on the side. Was some cold Mack cheese n hush puppies along w/ warm salad tgat had been sitting all day w/ dressing so it was soggy n wilted at best. None of the hot food was hot n the cold stuff was warm. Just a really bad presentation in my opinion. I could've put something better together for 50 ppl w/ $200 at Shoprite. After a round of golf there's nothing better than sitting down to a good meal to finish the day. They fell well short of any sort of quality level here. The staff was great...extremely nice professional. Clearly they had something else for lunch though. LOL. In summation, the course was slightly above average, staff was above average, nice looking place overall, comfort level was average but food was way below average. It's my only experience eating here so it could be an anomaly, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt n I give it 3 stars overall....for now. Score could immediately drop to Zero if I experience the same extreme low quality food next time I'm here for an outing. Really a great public course - top notch, best of the best. Always in fantastic shape, beautiful course, challenging and people are usually good about being speedy. Practice facilities are top notch - grass range available almost every day, next best option is royce brook in hillsborough that only has grass open on the weekends if at all. Disappointed that some of the reviews are for weddings/events/catering etc bringing the rating down. read more

My son did golf camp at the learning academy last week. The instructors were fabulous, he learned so much from them. It was the getting started program that ran for two hours mon thru fri. The class size was small and the instructor to student ratio was great, I may sign him up for another week. The only suggestions I'd make is to have the sign ups online and also to have the lesson schedule posted to your website. To find out what was available you have to call up for specifics like dates, ages and times. This has nothing to do with the golf academy but one afternoon when I was waiting I went up to the main club house. From a distance the building looks beautiful, however, once your up there it's very tired. There was missing trim on the outside and th outside porch was covered in bird poop. Also, it would be nice if there was a better selection of goods in the pro shop for sale. read more

Played this course with a buddy via GolfNow...good deal although it's worth checking this course's Twilight options if you can play later in day. Clubhouse & landscaping looks impressive with 27 holes to play plus a learning center on way in. We played the Ridge & Lake 9s. Fairways & Greens in great shape. It was windy & given the open landscape Links style this can add to the challenge. Even on a Sunday Fall afternoon, time management was an issue with delays on both routes (it was evident that the foursome in front were constantly hunting for lost balls so we had to wait on pretty much every teebox- that may not sound like the courses fault but it happened again on the back nine with a different group, leading me to suspect the time slots are overbooked.) I'd play this course again but given the numerous public options in central NJ, I'd try to get a more competitive price next time. read more

Played 18 here this past weekend for the first time, and thoroughly enjoyed it. This place was quite the drive for me from Long Island, but I committed to meeting up with friends from the jers, so I trekked out early on Saturday morning. When you arrive, you immediately see a building to the right off the main drag, which has a driving range. Don't pull in here, this is the learning academy. I continued on up the road, and parked in the main lot, the clubhouse is kind of perched on a hill, and is a pretty nice, large building. Entering in thru the pro shop near the putting green on the right side of the building, this is where the restroom/lockerroom is. There were a few lockers that looked like daily use for anyone with a lock, but I didn't need one. I also think I saw a shower in the lockerroom, but don't quote me on that. I grabbed a quick bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich in the 19th hole, the grill room just past the pro shop known as Mulligan's Grill. Breakfast sandwich was good, and I got a 6 pack of beers to go for me and my buddies, for which they gave me a nice cooler to bring in the cart. Paid $24 for 6 beers and a breakfast sandwich, but the kid messed up and undercharged me, as I got premium beers and I heard the manager giving him some grief after I walked out. For out of county golfers it was $91 for the greens fee, cart fee, and a bucket of 35 balls to hit down at the range (buy the range token in the pro shop when paying your greens fee). Didn't think it was worth this much, would say it's about a $65-70 greens fee worthiness, but whatever I paid it. I had read that this place was one of the nicer munis/public courses around so I was excited. For some odd reason, they gave us a gas cart to take down to the range, and then when we came back from the range made us switch to an electric cart. Made no sense. Range was nice, wide open grass range with targets, can hit drivers if you want. Putting green in front of the clubhouse was a decent size and just like the greens on the course, fast when downhill, downgrain, and downwind but slow the opposite direction. We played the ridge and lake 9's, as they have 27 holes and assign your two nines before play begins. I heard the meadow 9 is nicer than the lake, but truth be told I liked the lake more than the ridge 9 we played. Course was in great shape, heather grass was up, and it played tough from the tips. All of the 9s tip out at roughly 3500 yards, was nice to get 7000 in for the day. Cart girl was everywhere, which was nice. We were a threesome, and they were super packed so they paired us up with an annoying single. He was a good player but wouldn't shut the eff up the whole time. Oh well. You also get a free bottle of water from the starter before you tee off. I had a foot long hotdog and grabbed a few more beers from the girl standing outside the clubhouse at the halfway cart, who was hot, which was also nice. Although I tipped her too much lol. Hotdog was really good though and hit the spot. After the round we went back inside for a brew at Mulligan's Grill again, and I grabbed a fat tire ale, which they had on tap. They had a number of beers on tap, bottled, and canned for a reasonable price, as well as hard liquor in a reasonable selection. Bar room was a good size, but the bar itself was tiny, lot of tables all over the room. We didn't have any more food but it seemed decent from what we saw coming out. Will I come back? Only if I'm in the area, but this place was still pretty great. The quality of the course was really good, and the facilities and service were great as well. Just plan on a longer round like any muni, took us 5 hours to play, which I kind of expected. read more

Heard great things about this place. Went for my birthday with my wife hoping she could ride along. The starter let me know the manager, Al, does not allow this. Al came out to explain the situation and was extremely rude and condescending. He said there would be a fee and when I tried to ask how much it would be, he immediately interrupted me in a very condescending manner and asked what my tee time was. After that he proceeded to say, "I'm not sure what courses you normally play at". I've played at some of the best in the country and as far as locally goes Architects and Crystal Springs both allow riders and are nicer golf courses. Keep in mind this is my birthday and not once did he say happy birthday or even smile. You are in the hospitality industry, there should be some level of respect for your customers. We had no problem paying the fee but there's a graceful way of going about it and he certainly missed the mark. Having said all that, every other employee was absolutely wonderful. The starters were exceptionally nice and did all they could to make sure we had a great time. The golf course was also in very good shape - fast greens and the bunkering is very well done. I really want to like this golf course but the experience with the manager has left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Have you even been in a situation where your friends rave about how great a movie is, that when you finally go you cant help but be a bit disappointed? This is how I feel about Neshanic Valley Golf Course (NVGC). It's nice, and the fairways and greens are very well maintained, but I just dont feel it lives up to the considerable hype. There are 27 holes comprised of the Meadow, Lake, and Ridge 9 hole routes, of which, I played Meadow and Lake. According to the USGA slope, Ridge is the easiest of the three nines. It's patterned after a true links golf course like you'd find in Scotland or Ireland, so there are literally almost no trees on the entire course. There is also very little water, with just a few ponds coming into play. And with no trees and little water on an essentially wide open course, that means the rough is the course's primary defense. Expect a solid 3 or 4 inches of rough, and beyond that, 1 to 3 feet of fescue from which you haven't a prayer Because unlike the British Open where there are dozens of fairway spotters, you can lose 1 to 3 balls per round simply because you cant find them. And I'm not talking about terrible shots missing the fairway by 30 yards, it's quite possible to not find a ball missing the fairway by just 10 yards. The fact that you can hit a shot that really isnt all that bad and yet lose the ball is a part of links golf, but it can get frustrating. The purpose of my pointing this out is that I wouldn't recommend NVGC for beginner golfers, slicers, or hacks. The course is better suited for those that can hit a straight ball and play target golf. Links golf courses like NVGC have absolutely proliferated in America over the last decade. Most people think the reason for this is to pay tribute to the origins of the sport or to give a European course feel on American soil. The truth, however, is typically one of simple cost. It is substantially cheaper to both build and maintain a links golf course. I'm aware that much of NVGC was once farmland, but my educated guess is that cost had substantial bearing on the design plan. It's a very nice public course that is certainly worthy of play, but IMO there are better public options in the area. read more

Beautiful course- championship length so if your a mid to high handicapper ( like me ) it can be frustrating at times- quite expensive- 75.00 per person with cart on a Monday???- and bought a six pack(24.00!!!)-excellent clubhouse and facilities-and lunch was hot, fresh , tasty and reasonable ( 8.00)-could do without little man begging for tips by INSISTING on putting your bag on the cart-especially considering upscale ambience and prices.-ranger constantly on our backs for minor cart path nonsense ( insulting and annoying because we are experienced, mature golfers)overall fairly enjoyable , but won't be one of my regular courses - just too expensive-so many other nice local courses that are literally half this price,without the hassles read more

Writing this post from 13 hole cause i have so much time w 3 groups on every hole. Meadow 9 is empty yet they jam as many players as they can on to the front nine and also have everyone playing behind a golf outing of slow hackers. Never saw ranger once. Also don't appreciate getting yelled at and berated like a two-year-old from a county employee because I parked off the the cart path. To top things off I booked on GolfNow with no mention of the green being aerated yet I show up tee off and find the greens are all aerated! 90° and humid and not one drop of water in the golf course they Give u one bottle of water expecting to last four and half hours ridiculous! I won't be back I won't recommend this course and I'll tell everybody I know to stay away. read more

Somerset County should be ashamed of itself on many counts. Monmouth county has multiple fantastic courses, which costs 35 to walk. Somerset charges you 55 dollars for the county card, then the want another 35 for advanced tee time!!.. What does this get you?.. The privilege to pay 65 to walk Neshanic on a Friday, which was in terrible condition and punched, which they did not tell you at the club house. Hominy hill, which is 10 times nicer then Neshanic, costs under 40. Somerset county stinks.. This will be the last year I buy a county card. read more

I used the practice facility here for a day because a publication called them fantastic. I was sadly disappointed. They do have a huge practice putting green which is great but on the slow side. The chipping/bunker area looks really nice, but they were charging $35 to use it for the day. Absurd. I called about the prices for buckets and whether or not they were hitting off grass. The guy on the phone was right about the prices, but when I showed up of course it was a mat day. At least he got me in the door. The mats were very nice. They had tight lies and a softer, 1st cut of rough type lie. The worst thing about this place were the golf balls. Of the 60 I hit, maybe 10 seemed to have enough dimples to stay in the air. A dozen or so looked outright spherical. Definitely not worth the price even if the mats were nice or they were hitting off grass that day. Very disappointed. I'm a county card holder and I have to say Neshanic is my least favorite. First and foremost it's the most expensive of the county course and for what? From the attitude that you get at the tee time booking to the crotchety rangers that snap at you if you drive on the terrible 2 inch high grass that some people view as a challenge, but I just view as lazy maintenance. All I'm saying is if you have customers that are paying a high price to play golf, just try to show a little customer service. Just a little. The experience at the other Somerset county courses is much better. Not worth the money. read more

Played here once, and now planning to try out other courses in the area. One of the most expensive courses I've been to, and definitely not worth the money. Not much by way of scenery; beyond the differences in distance, most holes look and feel about the same. No choice in which of the 3 nine-hole courses you get to play. Pretty disappointed with that, but not going back. Watch out in the mid-day, there is absolutely no shade and the only protection available from the sun comes from the cart roof. I generally prefer to walk, as it enables me to enjoy the course a bit more and is great exercise, but this course is clearly designed for carts. Simply stated, if you're more interested in spending money than playing a good round of golf, go here. read more

Was looking to play a quick 18 on a well established facility and arrived with my girlfriend who was planning on coming along for the ride in the cart. Called midday around 1:30 on a Monday asking if they had any availability in the next half hour. Gentleman said sure come on over as I did only to walk in the pro shop having the guy say we don't allow spectators...she has to pay full price just to ride in the cart. Walked right out. Never heard of such a thing. Maybe at private clubs. Will never go back just from the rude experience. Definitely would not recommend this course. The best course in the area, some out there will say Royce Brook but they are $20 or more a round than here and is in better condition. The practice ranges are always in great shape and the practice range is grass which is always a plus. I go to the range there pretty regularly and the prices are comparable with other ranges but a nicer place than everywhere else. If you live in county I'd get a county card if you plan on playing there a few times. They just aerated the greens but as of this morning were at about 90% back to perfect. They have 3 nines that they rotate regularly and all are challenging for all types of players. There's also a 4th nine called the academy course that has 4 par 3s and 5 par 4s and is a good alternative for a quick 9 that is fairly challenging and in good shape. The club house is beautiful and huge has a cafe with decent beers and food and the pro shop has normally priced items and is just as nice. There are a few decks that overlook part of the course where you can enjoy some food and drinks after a round which is spectacular. you will not find a public golf course. the course is picturesque and really maintains the "rural new jersey" motif without being tacky. all 3 9 hole courses offer a different playing experience and different challenges. New Jersey magazine rated this Course #2 in the top 40 public courses in new jersey with very good reason. Even though its a little more money than the other somerset county courses (all of which are nice), it is worth the extra 20 bucks or so as this course provides an exquisite playing experience. read more

This review is for their event space and not the golf course itself..... I'd love to say this is a review of the actual event that we booked HOWEVER, it isn't. We met with Merri-Maker's site manager over a several week period this spring to book a celebration at Neshanic Golf Course. Each time we spoke or met with them, we confirmed availability and only after agreeing to a price and going to contract, did they tell us the date was unavailable. It's not as if someone came in and took the date while were negotiating but rather it was NEVER available for us. There was a clerical error according to them and our only choice was to change the date. They offered nothing other than a slight apology for the confusion and sent us on our way. Perhaps a more thoughtful company would have offered another of their venues, offered to off-site cater the event if we wanted at our house, helped find us another place....Instead Merri-Makers did nothing and even when ignored us when I asked to speak with them. We thought there food was very good and we're looking forward to holding our affair there. I'd caution anyone looking at using them to get a signed contract quickly so that at least you'd have recourse if they made the same mistake as they did with us. From our perspective we're now scrambling around to find a place since this delay has put us behind and what should have been a joyous occasion is now overly stressful.
