My boyfriend and I took one of our cats in a stroller to Neshaminy State Park. He loved it! He enjoyed smelling the air on the beach and taking in the view. We walked about a mile loop around the trail, thought it is about 3 miles total. There is so much wildlife around! The park is so well-maintained and clean. It is such a pleasure to walk around! The main trails are either pavement or gravel so it is very easy to get around. This park is an easy hike or good place for a jog. We also saw many people walking their dogs or enjoying the scenery. There is a huge parking lot, bathrooms, water fountains, and trash cans scattered throughout the park. I also saw a pavilion or two. The park is right next to the Delaware River, so there are many places to get great photos as well! On the trail, there were many maple trees, many types of grasses, many birds including gray catbirds, and some mushrooms. This is a great park for birdwatching or nature photography due to the amount of biodiversity. If you have a chance, you should totally check out this park! read more

I have a spot in my heart for Neshaminy State Park as it was the location of my first job. At 14 I worked at the concession stand at the pool. Not much has changed over the years. Plenty of paved, unpaved, gravel and dirt trails that offer easy hikes throughout the park. Pavilions, picnic areas, playground equipment, a volley ball pit and pool all scattered about the 300+ acres of parkland. It does get crowded on the weekends in summer but weekdays you can catch a nice walk in with relatively minimal human interaction. NSP is well maintained and has plenty of facilities. Perfect for a quiet weekday walk or a day at the park with the family. For me, it reminds me of a younger time when my work ethic was formed and my love of nature began. read more

Neshaminy State Park is great for a family fun day, nature walk, bbq, bday party or just a nice day outdoors. The park is huge with lots of amenities to support any occasion. Grills for bbqs, pits to discard hot coals, plenty of picnic tables with the benches connected. Lots of open space to spread blankets and lay out on the grass. Slides and swings for the kiddos, bathrooms and thrash receptacles. Neshaminy is dog friendly but be sure to clean up after your dog. There are several walking trails to take with nice views along the walk. Plenty of signage pointing you in the direction of trails, bathrooms etc. Super clean park and I felt safe as I walked the various trails. Definitely recommend if you're in the area. read more

I haven't been in here in years but I'm glad I stopped! The park is less than 3 minutes from I-95 Street Road exit. I had an errand up that way and was looking for a place to walk the dog. Dogs are permitted but must be on leashed at all times. A large parking lot, bathrooms, lots of picnic tables and grills are located by the entrance. There are several different paved walking paths. One walking path goes along the Delaware River. There are small beaches to sit on. No swimming obviously. Lots of shade from all the trees keeps it from being too hot. I was there on a nice Spring Tuesday. There were enough people to feel safe but not too crowded. It can get really crowded on weekends. The park has a large in ground pool with slides and a small sprinkler park that are open in the summer. The pool can get crowded. read more

Large green and wooded spaces along the Delaware River. We swung by for a lovely walk through the wooded trails along the river. While some of the trails, including the River Trail, are not paved, there are a few that are handicap accessible. All trails appear to be well maintained. There are extensive pavilion and picnic spaces for those wishing to grill or eat outside. Parking is in good supply, and there are restrooms. The park closes at sunset. read more

Large park degenerating by the day as lower class people continue to populate the area. It used to be so much nicer. At least three shootings here over petty disputes in the past two years alone of which I know. There were probably others. You might want to come during weekdays, when it is less crowded. And avoid getting into arguments with anyone. Lots of nuts come here. Swallow your pride and leave when trouble is brewing. read more

Wound up having breakfast not far from this park this morning so we decided to sit in the park afterwards. We didn't do a walk or anything, but we sat at a picnic table and talked for over an hour. It's an active park-lots of people walking, biking and/or walking their dogs. Friendly people too! Very nice. read more

Came here with my family since my brother lives in the area. It was my first time here with some of my family and we ended up exploring the park. The park is huge! There's so much land, there picnic tables to have some lunch, or parties. There is a playground area for kids with a jungle gym, swings, and some slides. The playground is a clean and safe area for kids to play. The park also has some trails, and if you walk further back, you would reach some sand and the river, which makes for some nice photo ops. Everyone had a good time, the kids were happy playing in the playground, and the older kids enjoyed taking selfies by the river while the older people had fun walking the trails and watching the children smile. We ended up sitting at some picnic tables and eating some hoagies. There are bathrooms that are open to the public and they are very clean. i would recommend this park because there are so many things you can do with your family. read more

I'm training for Broadstreet and was meeting a friend here ( both of our first times here ) to try and get some miles in. There is a huge parking lot & plenty of parking spaces. There is a playground for kids, picnic tables & even a pool to use in the summer months ($8 I believe is what it costs to swim) there are restrooms available but I honestly didn't go in to to see if they were clean or not. There are various paths you can run/walk thru, some are on pavement and others on grass/ dirt paths. There's a beautiful view of the Philly skyline & the Delaware river is right there too. Everyone we encountered were super friendly and I truly felt safe there, if I were to go for a run by myself. You can rent out space and have a party there, but I'm sure they get filled fast. I will definitely be coming back even after Broadstreet. It is a little bit of a drive bit the change of scenery is well worth it! read more

This park is trashy, literally trashy. As in there is trash everywhere that needs to be put in the garbage. I'm hoping this is not a permanent condition, but every time I've been there, there has been a serious litter problem. If you are ready to brave the insane crowds on weekends, you might be able to walk along some of their paths. I do like the trails in this park, and some bits are very serene and can be beautiful as well. Once you get away from the main entrance you can escape all the commotion and enjoy a slice of nature. I was torn on this rating, but the over crowding and rubbish issues made me lower the score. It could be better than what it is. read more

Neshaminy State Park is one of the best parks, from every thing to cooking out with a bunch of family and freinds to just hanging and bringing your kids to have a fun time strolling thru the park, if it's eaither biking along or just taking a walk. It's always fun. You have the Delaware River right in front of you to some days enjoy the nice breeze or just sit and watch the big size boats come by. Or the play area for the kids to enjoy. And in the summer time they have a built in size pool that everyone can enjoy for a price $$$$$ but is worth going swimming. I always enjoy every year they have the Civil War reenactment. which is always fun and so many people show up to enjoy the fun activities. You appreciate how they keep up with the park and how clean it always is. read more

I stopped here for the first time this week for a run with my brother. I ran around the park for exercise and got to see the lay of the land. They have a nice trail, great view of the lake playground, and pavilions for parties, bbqs and etc. The park was clean as were the public restrooms. read more

Took the boys to throw the football around. They have great areas for that. And unlike the city you can kick your shoes off and run around in the grass. I love this place. It was an awesome time. Always beautiful. Mosquitoes were pretty bad today. But who can control that tide came in so I didn't get a chance to sit by my favorite tree in the sand. Infact that path was blocked off due to the recent storms.. will always recommended. Oh the BBQ section was blocked off too. read more

Stopped here today for the SPIN boo and brew 5k. There is an ample amount of parking and nice trails. There were a bunch of park rangers as well. We liked having the canopy because of the rain. Overall good experience here. The beach area along the river is the best part. read more

It's not my favorite park, but it's close to home...so it works when I'm in a pinch for time. A very kid and pet friendly place. There's a huge playground, volley ball net, bathrooms, swimming pool (that is open during certain hours, 8 bucks for the day), lots of picnic tables, as well as grilling capabilities. I often see a lot of birthday parties happening when I come here for a walk. The paved path area isn't very extensive, but if you go in the wooded area, that could keep you occupied for a little while. It's a pretty clean place. read more

Admission was $9 ok thats fine. The problem is half the pool was literally shut off & nobody could swim in that certain section. So the part you could swim in was crowded. Also the slides were both down. They have ZERO lounge chairs to sit on you have to literally lay your towel on the grass. An hour b4 pool closes why is the admission still full price? They closed at 5p thats way too early the sun isnt even down yet. I wont be back!! read more

This is a HUGE park. There are so many places to walk, that every time we go here I find a path I didn't know about before. Our favorite path follows alongside the river, which can be found to the left of the beach. This is the path I would recommend. There is a neat bench which we refer to as "Wind Bench," which sits aside the water and faces the city- the wind is super strong because of the water, so this is a great place to sit and cool down. The beach on the river is a rocky beach, with lots of really good skipping stones, and little waves. This is a nice place to take puppies who are just getting used to a tide, since the waves are very gentle. There is a nice sized playground, as well as a very large public pool, with fun little spray areas. When we walked around the park yesterday, there were a LOT of people in the pool area, as well as plenty of people taking advantage of the picnic tables and grilling areas. I haven't been to this park on a weekend in a long time, but several years ago I remember it being VERY dirty. Since then, they have added a lot more trash cans to accommodate the volume of people, which seems to have helped. Minus 1 star for the amount of people. It's a huge park, but even on a Tuesday morning you will be running into people left and right. I prefer quieter parks. Minus 1 star for the smell. It smells a bit garbagy in the park- this could be due to the amount of trash cans they have to keep up with their guests, and it could also be because of the river making the scent more intense. read more

As much as I enjoy local parks, Neshaminy State Park isn't amongst my favorites. Although it's great for walking, there really isn't much scenery to take in; furthermore, it's not exactly the biggest of parks, so if you're anticipating something more expansive and exciting, you won't really find it here. So it's summer and it's hot and i want to cool off but everyone I know with a pool is on vacation or working. What's a girl to do? Grab sunscreen, a beach towel, pack a lunch and head up to the pool at Neshaminy State Park! It's $8 to get in for the day and you can bring your own food so it's super cheap. The pool is divided into 3 sections and it's big. The grounds are clean and it does get a little crowded but there's plenty of space. Besides the pool there is a splash area and snack bar. Outside the pool area there are picnic tables and trails to walk around. Great place to bring the dogs for a walk or your love for a picnic! read more

Neshaminy State Park is just a nice place to visit, whether it's for a family picnic/BBQ, a jog, a stroll with your favorite person, or to exercise your dog. The river is nice on hot days. The wood trails are a little bit adventurous. Of course, the swimming pool and play ground too!! read more

Went to the PARK today, not knowing that they were having The Civil War enactment, to take the girls to the playground. When we arrived there a sign directed you past the front parking lot. NO one was there to direct you where to park. Parked in a row other people had started parking. When we came back to the car, we had a $15 ticket along with the rest of the row of cars. I think this is the way they make their money to run the park. POORLY run event! read more

If you're looking for actual hiking and a semi-wilderness experience, this park is a little underwhelming. Parking lots and various other paved surfaces seem to outnumber plants when you pull up. Fortunately, once you walk past the playground, crappy-state-park-y bathrooms, random signposts etc. on the main (paved) path from the parking areas, you reach the Delaware river, where the grassy riverbank area is fairly well preserved (and great for playing fetch if there's no one around to ding you for having your dog off-leash in a state park.. not that I would ever do that). This was another park found on our dog-hiking quest and one of the selling points was being able to walk along the river. As promised by the dog-hiking website, there were lots of river views and a good portion of the trail area ran along the bank of the river. There isn't any elevation to speak of, so I suppose it's a little disingenuous to toss this in with "hiking," but it seems even more inappropriate to toss it in with "parks," when that category is shared by Rittenhouse and Washington Square... Anyway, the other big selling point was the intersection of river and saltwater habitats. I can't speak to that specifically, but there is a large sand dune area that's well away from the more "developed" part of the park and so a little more off-leash friendly. I don't know what it is, but there's something that a dog loves about being able to bound through sand, getting her nose all covered with grit and tossing dust all over the place. Neshaminy isn't that far away and little dog really seemed to love it, so we may make a return trip or two (and it's called Neshaminy.. which, face it, is just really fun to say). Most of the trail area was sort of wooded and forest-y -- basically what you would expect of a river-bank environment. As such there are TONS of great throwing sticks and again, not that I would ever let my dog off leash in state park territory, if you did want to let your dog off leash and play some fetch you'll have plenty of tossing material. I mention the state park off-leash standard, but I will also say this: ranger-who-shall-not-be-named sort of gave us the wink wink on the off leash thing as far as s/he was concerned. S/he didn't speak for the other rangers, but we got the impression that as long as you're not around people who will complain/are annoyed by your dog's doggy antics, you probably won't be cited. read more

I love this park, come here with my family and friends we even had birthday parties here. Can't say anything bad about it. The park is huge, well maintained very clean. It has a lot of picnic tables, playground for the kids, volleyball net, restrooms, a pool which is not for free of course but quite affordable price to spent a hot summer day with your loved ones($8 and it's not open every day, so call for info), it has a lot of trails to walk or jog, I see a lot of people fishing or having picnics on Delaware River bank, good park to walk with dogs, it does get a bit crowded on weekends or holidays but I don't know any good place which doesn't, and even then we always could find a nice spot for picnic. So keep in mind people this is a park, and it's not supposed to look like picture perfect lawn in front of your house! read more

Looking for an alternative place to go running, I explored Neshaminy State Park on a beautiful spring Saturday morning. This small state park located just outside of Philadelphia is only about a 25 minute drive up I-95 from Center City -- closer than the Wissahickon. The park features picnic areas, playgrounds, volleyball, and several paved and unpaved trails (see trail map on PA DCNR's website). There are a few spots with excellent views of the river. For runners or walkers looking for a short quiet, loop of about 2-4 miles, this park is a good fit. The trails are wooded and peaceful and, when I was there, virtually empty. For people just looking to spend a nice few leisurely hours on a nice day for a picnic or a stroll, Neshaminy is the right place. read more

Its not a thunderingly-great outdoor area but it is a nice little recreation spot and place to relax in semi-natural surroundings. Its safe and mild; you can't get into trouble here; and there is convenient access to the creek/stream/river. Good place for a Sunday picnic. Never crowded. Sunny and tree-filled; birds/bees..in northeast Philadelphia. What can one reasonably gripe about? If you want more intense wilderness you drive farther to go get that. If you want to be outdoors and still stay local, be thankful for places like this... read more
