I am a dad of two, and also the main cook at home. I can safely say that I never had an interest in food (beyond refuelling) until the brats (sorry, 'my awesome children') were born. Obviously, you're going to want your brood to eat healthily and be active.
I now have a distrust of major supermarkets and big brands as I have read a lot of horror stories. I don't want to be paying three quid for a whole chicken if I don't know what's been done to it and why it's so cheap, so I'm happy to spend more in the local butcher, where I can actually talk to someone who knows what the craic is, and where you can see the difference on display before your eyes.
Nesbitt's is the best butcher in Glengormley. Should you have a Jamie Oliver recipe for beef ribs (that you can't get in the supermarket) - they'll sort you out. Shin bones for stock that'll cost you next to nothing. They make an effort to do different stuff - marinaded beef, stir fry mixes. They're good.
Having said that, the kids would probably hoover up whatever I set in front of them. read more
