Dear Owners, What a mixed bag of feelings I had when I…read moredined at your establishment tonight! First was WOW! What a cute place! Do we really have a "wine bar" with this kind of atmosphere downriver? I saw a picture of your establishment on a friend's Facebook page a while back, she told me about you and the pictures didn't lie, it is as cute, quaint and cozy as I had expected. I was fortunate enough to have a restaurant.com certificate so I could check you out! We were seated in a little alcove that felt cozy and private. We ordered a bottle of white wine. Our waitress delivered two glasses. She explained to us that she wanted to keep our bottle under refrigeration so it wouldn't get warm. As a pretty serious wine drinker, this isn't the way it's done. We want the excitement when our bottle arrives and the special feeling when the wine is opened for us. Teach your staff how to properly serve a wine, or don't call yourself a "wine bar." We asked for our bottle, and nursed it through the food. It did get warm, if you invest in those stainless steel or clay coolers your staff won't have to worry! Your waitress made a little mistake; she delivered the bread for us to another table even though we were next. She looked us in the eye and apologized. She is a keeper; you don't often find folks like that - except Downriver - the in your face honest type. This made a negative into a positive. And the bread! Seriously, home made, with lots of warm crispy outside and soft insides and a sauce with a little extra zing on the finish! YUM! My little secret is that I have been gluten-free recently, not tonight, not with that bread on the table! The salads were gorgeous - homemade dressing, mixed greens and lovely. I can't help but wonder if a little cracked pepper offered for my salad would have added another nice flair? I like this too. It isn't an expensive thing to do and gives you that extra-special feel. Next was the hard part we waited a long time for our food. We were getting frustrated. Apparently, tonight was the first night of a new menu. My husband liked his Chicken Saltimbocca, but my swordfish was a bit over-cooked. My polenta was kind of watery. What did you do? Both proprietors came to the table, looked us in the eye and apologized. You shook our hands. You let me make suggestions and took me seriously. You are "salt of the earth" people and you WILL succeed. Our meals were comped due to the extenuating circumstances. This is what I like about Downriver; the no-nonsense approach of its people. I have seen enough of your restaurant that I will recommend it, I will be back, and I will not be disappointed! I will also write another review, and I know it will be a star or two better. Folks will give your cute place a chance, and they won't be sorry! Sincerely, Lisa L.

After a long wait, I finally received a response on October 29 apologizing for the delay and confirming my date was available. They asked me to schedule a call through their portal to discuss details, which I did for November 4. Unfortunately, they did not show up for the call. They eventually connected with me later that day, and I sent inspiration photos to help with planning. After that, I heard nothing until January 16, 2026, when Katie messaged me asking if I had seen her proposal. She apologized for the lack of follow-up and said she would resend it if needed. I informed her that I had not received the proposal in my spam or portal, and she promised to resend it the next day. However, by January 17, I still had not received anything. I followed up again on March 1, 2026, hoping for some progress. Despite the ongoing communication issues, I was drawn to their work because of the beautiful photos and event space they showcased on Instagram. I really wanted to use their services. On March 2, I finally received a response from Stephen, who explained Katie was attending a conference but assured me I would get the proposal within a few days, no later than the end of that week. Now, 20 days later, I have received no proposal and no further follow-up. I am left with no choice but to look elsewhere. If I could give zero stars, I would. I cannot comment on their food or event space because I was never able to utilize their services. I want to support local small businesses, but this experience has been incredibly disappointing and frustrating.

We would not recommend at all for anyone that has a large guest list like ours. We hired them for our wedding to do family style and we learned after the wedding that hey ended up not giving 40 people's worth (which included one of the main family tables) their 2 other sides we paid for. Then they missed giving vegetables to about 80+ guests and missed 40+ guests for their side of pasta. Mind you we paid for 270 peoples worth and there was about 250 people that attended, giving you an extra 20 people that there should have been "extra" for. The staff was terrible service wise and did not go back to the tables they dropped off their dishes to because if they would have, it would have been clear to every staff member that each table was missing items that we paid for and were never served. On top of not only not receiving certain dishes, they delivered the protein and they waited 30 minutes to deliver the dishes to the table...mind you this was my immediate family that was without food. They tried using the excuse that the layout was confusing, yet it was communicated to them extensively where the main tables would be and who should be served first. We also had our wedding coordinator there whom made herself known to the chef and serving team. Apart from the absolutely terrible service we received, they also arrived 3 hours later than agreed upon which then caused a literal noise disturbance during our ceremony as they arrived right as our car pulled up to walk down the ceremony. It was an absolute horror. This then delayed the grazing table that should have been out and ready for guests after the ceremony... they ended up having the table out almost 1 hour after ceremony was done. They had been unprofessional in communications by denying every single proof we have of their failure to deliver. They made sad excuses and we also had a coordinator, so any questions they had, they could have contacted her as they were in constant communication. They refunded our "tip" which was "not mandatory", but refused to partially refund us for food that was literally not even served to our tables because of them being negligent and unclear planning. The owner Lindsay was not even in attendance and her husband was the one running the event, so of course they will not accept any claims or take any responsibility for their lack of delivering a service we paid for. The owner states her employees said "everything went well", of course they do- her husband is the chef and her mother was there "coordinating" the food. The bias is clear. The disconnect in what staff say occurred and what our guests are telling us, is large and misleading. I wish I could of had a better review as the food was amazing (for my husband and I), yet the experience was absolutely dreadful.

With all of that being said, the service at the actual wedding was extremely disappointing. It's a third party serving staff and our wedding had 250 guests. We paid for 270 dinners, family style to be brought out to the tables. We had multiple tables complain about not receiving proteins, side dishes, salads, etc. They had another event that night so I understand the staff was divided but our coordinator had no point of contact and we didn't know Lindsay wasn't going to be there. Most likely due to disorganization and execution, servers were bringing out sides to tables that already received them, and not bringing main dishes, some tables never received salads. It was a mess. I asked for them to make it right after and instead of apologizing and taking accountability, they made excuses and said it was impossible that anything wrong could've happened.
