Ultimately they suggested it could be a problem with the stones in the wall. Disciple came out, recommended a strategy of replacing a couple of stones, re-pointing the rest of the area and applying sealant over the whole section. Work was scheduled promptly. The guys were very friendly and professional. The job was finished within 10 days (mortar needed to cure before sealant could be applied) and it looks great. Now we have to wait for a horrific rainstorm to see if that solves the problem.

With the aid of another friend who specialized in masonry restoration, I set out with Steve Preiss to tackle all the issues: stone weathered by too hard portland cement mortar, arch keystones slipping because of mortar washout, rotting window frames and sills because of open cracks where wood met stone. Steve Preiss matched mortar color in every area of house.
