My broken clavicle obviously needed plates and screws to hold the 6 pieces together to heal properly. Dr Pathare met me outside of his usual office hours for an exam, and immediately scheduled surgery. I've done this before with other bones and other doctors, unfortunately many times... Dr Pathare ranks up there with the best surgeons in my book. Totally straightforward, very logical in his approach and treatment plan, appropriately frank about the best way for me to heal and get back to normal. I cannot recommend him and his office highly enough. My son broke both of his arms snowboarding over the holidays and was recommended to see this orthopedic clinic. Right from the beginning the doctor was unclear in his evaluation of his injuries and how to proceed. He said we had some choices to make and when we made our choice he became rude and uncooperative because it wasn't what HE thought we should do! When we asked for a disc containing his X-rays to take to his surgeon at his college, they couldn't make one because it was broken. Really? The doctor would tell us one thing and then someone else from his office would tell us something else! As if the injury and circumstances aren't bad enough, I never felt they were on our team to make him well. When we did get to the new surgeon's office, he said that the way the bandages were wrapped wasn't optimal for healing, and his arms had to be REBROKEN again and plates and screws put in his arms. I'm sure they are very nice people, but I wouldn't go back there again. read more

We had a fantastic experience with our emergency visit to Dr. Pathare and his Advanced Sports Orthopedic office in San Francisco. We had worked through an appointments broker the day before to get the appointment, but when we arrived Dr Pathare's office did not have record of the appointment, which was not their fault. Even so, they fit us in anyway, with a less than 30 minute wait, on the Friday before the Xmas holiday, to boot. Dr. Pathare was thorough, kind, and took the time we needed to get our questions answered. He then quickly worked his magic to squeeze us in for an unscheduled MRI. Dr. Pathare's office assistant was equally friendly, helpful, and personally gave her business card and email in case we had questions. It is unusual to be able to say we had a fantastic experience with the healthcare system, but in this case, we can whole-heartedly say it. I had a fantastic experience with Dr. Pathare. Last December i tripped over some cable car tracks trying to jump on a trolley like a tourist. It was not only embarrassing but I broke my middle finger (an apt way to say goodbye to 2016). As a nurse I only go to the doctor when I'm dying so I sat on the injury for several days before heading in to see Dr. Pathare a few days before Christmas. He immediately x-rayed and diagnosed the injury before putting me in a proper cast and explaining the type of fracture I had and its treatment. I had been dealing with a gigantic, bruised, and swollen hand for days and he patched me up in 30 minutes. I work with doctors all day and this guy is pretty great. He is not only knowledgeable and skilled but he's genuinely nice. He never appeared rushed, he gave me treatment options, thoroughly answered all my questions, and remembered me every time I came in. There's no paternalistic, old school style medicine here. He'll give you his opinion but is also curious about your input. I had my last appointment with him today and I'm almost bummed I don't need to go back. I've been going to Dr. Neil Pathare for a couple of years now. I've got to experience consistency and excellence and am past due for reviewing his practice. Doctor's offices are scary. Health insurances are confusing and often unfair. Anxiety as visiting a physician is almost guarantee. Well, not at his practice. I want to give a shout out to his staff for have always making me feel comfortable, safe and informed about what I am about to do. A few times when insurance issues arised, their front desk folks were amazing, knowledgeable and highly empathetic. When Dr. Pathare was running late (it happens, I was just happy he was spending the time needed with another patient) I was promptly informed and expectations set. Dr. Pathare has been consistently delivering outstanding care in a thorough and empathetic manner. From knee pain from cycling to a shoulder and hand injuries, he has always been thoughtful, kind and curious. He's never rushed any of our appointments which in today's Healthcare climate is a hard thing to pull off. Despite being a surgeon, he's never default into "let's do a surgery to fix it", he's always looked at the whole picture, inquisiting about my life style, circumstances and overall health. A few months back I had a bad accident on my electric scooter and ended up fracturing my humerus. I was referred to Dr. Pathare by my urgent care PA after the initial x-rays suggested a fracture. On visiting Dr. Pathare, he ordered a few more x-rays and after examining them he suggested that since the fracture is non-displaced and in the greater tuberosity area, we might not need any surgery for it to heal! He gave me an arm sling to wear in order to restrict my arm movement and to let my broken bone heal. It's been over 3 months since I have been under his care and my arm has almost completely healed (a month more for full recovery!), that too without any surgery or even a cast! Dr. Pathare has been very patient throughout my recovery process answering all my questions and suggesting appropriate exercises and physiotherapy at the right stages to help me recover faster. This is the first time in 27 years that I have broken a bone and hence I was very scared about the whole process but Dr. Pathare and his entire crew including the office staff, his assistant, the x-ray technician were super professional and their expertise made my recovery process much faster and smoother than I had ever imagined. If I ever have other orthopedic issues in the future, Dr. Pathare would definitely be my first choice to be treated under. read more

It's always hard to find a "good" doctor, so I feel very lucky that I stumbled upon Dr. Pathare at AOSportsMed (found him on Yelp / ZocDoc). I was seen quickly, referred to a great MRI service, and was able to get into surgery that same week due to a cancellation. Though things moved quickly, Dr. Pathare was always willing to take the extra time to explain the details of what my surgery would be, answer any questions, and calm my fears about recovering in time (for my wedding, of all things). My surgery went smoothly and was sent home with a clear packet of instructions for my medications, recovery expectations, and exercises to begin once I was able. On top of all this, thank you, Dr. Pathare and staff for a healthcare experience that finally worked the way should -- quick and easy scheduling of appointments, only minutes waiting in the waiting room before each appointment, and reasonable policies for copays (the office even proactively refunded one that was billed accidentally for a follow-up visit). The staff at every step of the process was friendly (my anesthesiologist called me before and after my surgery to check-in!), organized, and efficient. I injured myself indoor rock climbing while performing a heel hook maneuver. Initially, I couldn't tell how severe the injury was so I limped around for several days. When I realized my knee wasn't getting any better I decided to consult an orthopedic surgeon. I'm super-duper grateful that I chanced upon Dr. Pathare. He was able to recognize the possibility of a serious injury and had me undergo an MRI. The MRI showed that I had a large bucket handle tear on my left medial meniscus. He immediately put me on crutches to preserve my meniscus and scheduled me to undergo surgery the following week. The operation went smoothly and I didn't have any complications. He was able to repair my meniscus. It's been about 6 months since the surgery and I think it was the right decision. I've even started climbing again. Dr. Pathare and his team helped me every step of the way from diagnosis, to surgery and through my physical therapy. I saw Dr. Neil Pathare for severe neck pain. I woke up one day and I could not move my neck. I had already been to the emergency. The ER doctor gave me pain killers but my neck was still bothering me. I then found Dr. Pathare. First of all, his staff is wonderful from the reception area to the exam room courteous, kind, helpful, great. Dr. Pathere gave me a thorough examination. I was prescribed medication and about 8 weeks of physical therapy. I am now on the mend. I made a return visit to his office for a follow up. Again he gave me a thorough exam. He also told me that if I needed anything to make another appointment and he would take care of me. If you are looking for an orthopedic doctor he is your man. Dr. Pathare is awesome! I've seen him for an athletic shoulder injury and a trauma injury to the knee. Both times he was accurate in his diagnosis, asked thoughtful questions and performed all the right tests to get me on the road to recovery. He's a genuinely nice guy who seems to really care about his patients. I also love that he's a little more conservative and isn't quick to suggest surgery or prescription drugs, opting for physical therapy first. Unfortunately I'm about a year behind on posting this review. But 5 stars just isn't enough to say how thankful I am that I ended up under Dr. Pathare's care. Similarly to most Orthopedic visits, mine was unexpected. After an embarrassing fall (tip: no more texting while walking), my leg had suffered a tibial plateau fracture. Being that it was over Labor Day weekend, I wasn't sure how soon I'd get my surgery. Dr. Pathare called me on my cell phone the following day to confirm everything for me. He was extremely calm and kind. He assured me that they would fix everything and my recovery would not be as horrible as I was imagining. From the minute I was in the hospital, he was by my side for everything (even when none of the pain killers wanted to work their magic). Because my injury was so serious, I was confined to crutches for nearly 4 months total. This required visits to Dr. Pathare's office every 2 weeks to monitor my progress, even post-crutches. My appointments were easy to balance with my work schedule and I rarely had to wait when I entered the office. Everyone on his team began to remember me and were always warm and welcoming. Each visit with Dr. Pathare never lasted longer than 30 minutes and he was very thorough during the exam of my leg. After many visits with many other doctors and physical therapists, it was so refreshing to walk into a comfortable environment with everyone at that office. The work he did on my leg shocked my physical therapist because of how quickly I was recovering! My range of motion was increasing at a rapid pace and as Dr. Pathare and his staff assured me, I grew to function pretty damn well on the crutches. My scar was improving every day. I was concerned about it's visibility since it's about 6 inches long and right on my lower leg. But even now, 16 months post surgery, it's barely visible! Given the unfortunate circumstances, I feel that I was given the best care possible. I highly recommend Dr. Pathare and everyone at his office if you find yourself in need of an Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. Pathare performed a Mumford surgery (resection of the clavicle) on me as well as a general shoulder clean-up and repair. He was and continues to be extremely helpful. His staff (Leslie in particular) are always available and respond to emails immediately. I have had several surgeries throughout my life and this was by far the most professional. I knew exactly what he was going to do, why he was doing it, and what to expect before and after surgery. He diagrammed the surgery and explained exactly what he was going to do, to the point where I could then explain to others when they asked me "What happened to your shoulder!?" My mother who was waiting in the waiting room like a nervous mother usually does, said he was extremely nice and comforting while I was still "under" post-surgery. She gave him two thumbs up and continues to tell others that she approves! The night of, and several days thereafter, Dr. Pathare continued to call me personally on my cellphone to make sure everything was okay. He genuinely cares about his patients. This is the first time I've ever written a Yelp review on a surgeon and Dr. Pathare's care warrants this effort. My encounter with Dr. Pathare was not by choice, as are most Orthopedic visits. I injured my right arm while moving furniture out of my apartment and was referred to Dr. Pathare's partner who was not available. My visit to Dr. Pathare resulted in a diagnosis of a torn distal bicep tendon and he scheduled me for surgery four days later! I was very upset about the prospects for the long recovery and its interference with my winter skiing plans and other things one normally does with their dominant arm like driving a stick-shift car. Well, the surgery was performed without any complications with a very minimal incision on the top of my forearm near the elbow. The immediate recovery was painful as expected, but I didn't have to take any painkillers after 72 hours. Within a week of my surgery I was fitted with a flexible arm brace which greatly aided my mobility. Dr. Pathare opened up the extension of my arm with each subsequent weekly visit until I was nearly full extension seven weeks after the surgery! His surgery was so effective that when I began my physical therapy my recovery of strength and range of motion was off the charts. In fact, my trainer - who also recently had his distal bicep tendon reattached - had a much bigger (and uglier) scar and was much slower to regain his strength. If you are ever unfortunate enough to have to select an Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Pathare and his staff at Advanced Care Orthopedics will give you the care, compassion, and confidence that your worst days are behind you. read more

I fractured my ankle earlier this year and it was initially very frustrating to deal with this injury. Dr. Pathare's flexibility and generosity in caring for my injury has made the healing process incredibly smooth and worry free. I have been able to make follow up appointments with ease at his office and he has helped me schedule an MRI and get all the imaging I need quickly, while respecting my budget. Dr. Pathare spent a lot of time answering all my questions and provided me with a thorough analysis of my fracture, the imaging, the prognosis and future care. A December 23 fall on the ice rink resulted in a complicated fracture of our daughter's wrist. We were cautioned by the ER doc that scheduling an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon during the holiday week would be asking the impossible. Thankfully, we found Dr. Neil Pathare. Not only did he perform the surgery within days of the fall, he went out of his way to make sure that we cleared any pre-op obstacles. His thorough explanation of the procedure and rehab put our nervous daughter's mind at ease. His genuine commitment to her recovery encouraged her through some rigorous rounds of physical therapy. Dr. Pathare repaired a torn tendon in my chest. I did a lot of research prior to the surgery and my results exceeded everything I read about what to expect. The scarring was also much more discrete than pictures of patients I reviewed that had a similar procedure. Can't say enough about Dr Pathare. I broke my collar bone in a motorcycle accident a couple days before thanksgiving 2016. He got me into surgery right after the holiday. Was always available via cell phone after surgery and through out my recovery for any of my questions and concerns. AND he did a great job putting me back together! He told me "expect it to be sore, it's surgery" but I never took a pain pill after the operation. Unbelievable. I'm covered with tattoos and told him don't even worry about them when he mentioned trying to line them up, no big deal. Just fix me up the right way and to hell with a tattoo. When the bandage came off the first time I noticed right away he had sewn it all back together perfectly. I laughed out loud, what a bonus. He and his office were also extremely helpful with all my insurance and disability paper work which would have been a nightmare if they had not been in my corner. God forbid I need anymore surgeries but I'd go back to Dr. Pathare for sure. read more

I am a 65 year old athletic female, a 3.5 ranked USTA league tennis player, a strong skier who learned the sport at Jackson Hole, Wyoming and a high alpine hiker. This past August I hiked about 70 miles in 8 days in the Jungfrau region of Switzerland. When I came home and felt the symptoms of previously diagnosed spinal stenosis coming on, I immediately started a search for an orthopedic surgeon who would take a non-invasive, physical therapy approach to my healing. I called Dr. Pathare, who saw me the very next morning, ordered an MRI, which was done shortly after, and as soon as the results were available, had me come in for a current diagnosis. I now have 3 herniated discs in my lower lumbar, which explains the acute pain I've been in for the past few weeks. During the first visit when he ordered the MRI, Dr. Pathare also recommended that I start physical therapy right away, which I did. To my relief, he also stated that most patients become pain-free after several weeks of PT. It was also suggested that if the nerve pain that radiates from my buttocks, down the outside of my leg, into my foot, does not subside in a timely manner, that he would refer me to a pain management doctor, for a corticosteroid injection, if I choose to go that route. I have complete faith that Dr. Pathare will help me determine the best approach to regain a pain-free life. He is smart and caring and clearly loves his profession. Backing up his smarts and warmth, is an outstanding front office and an assistant who scheduled my MRI and follow-up appointment with Dr. Pathare, to insure that I had a diagnosis asap. I'm on the road to recovery and I feel like I have a great team to guide me. Can't say enough good things about my experience so far with Dr. Pathare.
