I paid for my gas outside at the pump, but decided to grab a couple lottery tickets (and nothing more). I was first overcharged for the lottery tickets and almost walked away before I noticed (how does that even happen if they're scanned?). Then without any word or apology, abruptly told to put my Visa back in the reader. The clerk (name: J***h) then threw down my receipt still not saying a single word. No 'sorry about that' ... no 'thanks' ... no explanation ... nothing at all. Later, when removing my gas and ticket receipts from my car, I realized the lottery ticket was not included. Just the Player Receipt and my gas receipt. I HIGHLY suspect this person kept that part for himself. I'll switch to the Esso or Ultramar station across the street for my regular fills from now on.

There are at least two reasons to love this particular Irving - the car wash. It's inexpensive, and does a great quick clean, especially when it's cold and I'm too lazy to do it myself. And the fact that it's open 24 hours - you never know when you'll need gas or something. The K store is well maintained - meaning lots of goodies on the shelves and clean.

And it's a gas station. Which, I realize, sounds repetitive but I mean that it's not a mechanic's shop or a car wash or "power station." You drive up, you gas up, you pay and then you go. You can pay at the pump (and at certain times of the day that's the only option) or inside. The selection in the convenience store half of the gas station isn't huge but again, I like that. This is pretty much your run-of-the-mill generic Ultramar with gas and candy and chips and subs and pop and lottery and all sorts of corner store junk that everyone loves but nobody admits. Seriously. Find me one person on a road trip who can't find SOMETHING to love tucked away in on off-ramp gas station. The plus side of this Ultramar is the one woman who works there that always seems to catch me in the midst of my late-night junk food runs. Despite seeing me on multiple occasions walking up to the counter with two bags of doritos, peanut M&Ms and a mystery deli meat sub (that one isn't for me at least), she's always been completely friendly and non-judgey. Even though she's usually at the start of her night shift around 11pm, she also manages to not exude hatred for life in general which is pretty much how I'd fill my time if the roles were reversed. On the other hand, I always seem to end up at the one gas pump that fills you up at about a tenth of the speed of any other I've ever encountered. For those of you who go here, it's on the outer bar on the right-hand side when looking away from the shop. It's pretty much the laziest damn gas pump in the entire the world. "Hi pump. I would like some gas now please." "Ughggndfdfgghffhhhh. Fiiiiiiine. If you must." And then you stand there for eight minutes waiting for your sedan to fill up. It's the worst ever to begin with and it gets even slower during the winter.
