It's definitely more of a convenience store than a "grocery store" despite it's name but it does stock a lot of grocery staples like bread, snacks, condiments, dairy, and sometimes even the odd produce. The prices are your typically inflated convenience store rates but not outrageous. A full size bag of chips probably runs around $3. There are no prices listed on the shelves so if you want to know mroe you'll have to ask at the counter. The selection varies often but I've bought everything from cheese slices, to ketchup, to a can of soup, to a bag of potatoes (which I was sooo excited to find as I'd forgotten to grab this at Pete's earlier in the week). If you live in the Brunswick st/Cogswell area there aren't really any other options for grocery type food, especially after lawtons in scotia square is closed (6pm most nights). Keep this place in mind for those odds and ends you need to pick up between grocery days. They're open until 10pm every day which has been a life saver a few times.

The old place was overpriced, dank, cramped, and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in decades. The lady that ran it was crabby and not particularly nice to kids, which, when you are located immediately across from a school is not exactly a sound marketing strategy. Although they promised the best milkshake in the city, I was always a little afraid to order one. The new place is bright, clean and friendly. It has a reasonably good selection and the prices are quite reasonable. They have expanded their selection of ice cream offerings, and at a dollar for a one scoop ice cream cone, it is very kid-friendly. They have also added coffee, and although I have not tried it myself, I have noticed alot more people stopping in for their morning cup of joe on my way to work. They have held little get-togethers during community events like the fireworks, and with sitting areas inside and out, it has become a bit of a gathering spot for people in the neighbourhood. My only complaint is their selection of whole wheat baked items is virtually non-existent and they occasionally run out of the very item I am looking for: such are the limitations of this size of operation. All in all, the new owners have done a great job, and I really hope the neighbourhood supports them and they make a go of it.

It's distracting. Even if you don't like a certain wine, you find yourself drawn to the wide array of tastefully-displayed bottles. The spirit displays are also eye-catching. Good selection of local wines in the back. There is also a separate room where ultra-expensive wines are kept. Staff are friendly and helpful. The only downside is trying to find parking close by, but that's a pretty common downtown-in-general complaint.

I particularly appreciate the addition of the entire back wall now being a cold beer section. Who wants to buy warm beer? Staff are friendly and helpful and i've never been given too rough of a time with regard to carding. I even had my photo taken on my 19th birthday with the security guard working here come to think of it. A friendly group, needless to say. Be sure to save a quarter or two for the 'Clyde Street Pirate' who notoriously sits outside asking: "Cannnyahspareany change babeeyy?" Numerous rumors have gone around about this guy: He's deaf and collects contributions for hearing impaired children's charities, he's the best con job going and lives in a condo in Bedford, you name it... He's always been friendly to me though and he's definitely a colourful and friendly additions to an otherwise uneventful liquor store stop off! He does dress like a pirate btw. Be sure to check out the increased wine selection at this location!
