Only gave them a star because otherwise I couldn't write a review. Brought a dress to be hemmed. Took it on vacation and put it on and it was the same length. When I got home I brought it back and they insist it was hemmed showing me the stitches are different. Finally had me try it on and it was too my ankle so she said she didn't understand what the problem was. It should have been 3 inches shorter. Needless to say my dress is still to my ankles. The dress cost $11 (really good sale) and 40 to have hemmed. Now I'm going to have to spend another 40 to have it hemmed. read more

As someone who loves fashion and highly respects the art of tailoring, it has been invaluable to have a dry cleaning team I fully and completely trust to bring my pieces to over the years. I've had everything from summer outfits to bridesmaid dresses to formal gowns to a vintage overcoat altered by Needle & Thread and each time I have been absolutely delighted with the results and prompt turnaround. I must also say that the reception one receives upon entering the shop is just lovely. This husband and wife team is so kind and generous, always offering a genuine "Hello, how are you?" or similar sunny greeting when their clients enter. This is something that always strikes me as particularly wonderful about Needle & Thread, and I hope it's never taken it for granted. I highly recommend this business; it's a fixture of Metuchen and an absolute gem for all those out there who love and want to preserve their clothes. The maxi dress in the attached photos was comfortable but lacked practicality without pockets. so I brought it over to the team at N & T to ask if it might be possible to add them. They examined the piece, explained how the pockets would be created, and I agreed to leave it in their hands. Not only could I tell they did a great job with the clothes, but when I was loading them into my car, the gentleman helped me hang them in a way that would preserve the state that he handed them over to me in. It was clear they took care and effort with the clothes and had pride in the work. All of the articles, including some silk, cashmere and wool pieces, all came out great! Terrific dry cleaners in downtown Metuchen. We have been going to them for several years and they've done great work getting out stains, doing repairs and alterations, and just generally keeping our clothes in good shape! Not only is their process green, but they will take back hangers and plastic bags to reuse. The location is super convenient, as the store is right next to the train station, and they are open long hours so if you commute you can drop off or pick up before or after getting on the train. The store itself is charming, full of plants and pretty decorations, and the owners are extremely nice and friendly--when we had a baby a couple years ago I think they were as excited as her grandparents! read more

Nestled in a corner spot next to the southbound side of the Metuchen train station is this cute little dry cleaning place owned by friendly Koreans. The first time I came here 8 years ago, I had my wedding gown altered for a very affordable price and within a short period of time (about one week). I recently had bought a dress that needed to altered that I wore for my cousin's wedding. It was a long black satin dress with a second layer of chiffon. I dropped it off on a Wednesday to be ready by Friday. The tailor seemed a little stressed by it with such short notice, but she felt that she could accept the challenge. Because the dress had two layers, she wanted to charge me $80 but I gave her an unsure look and she reduced it to $60. I honestly only paid less than $20 for the dress at an outlet but I figured this is what I would have normally spent had I gone to a department store. I picked up the dress and wore it the next day. I noticed that the seam wasn't completely straight. It didn't look 100% professionally done. I felt like I probably could have just sewn it myself and saved the $60. But, she did save me time and I didn't trip on my dress the entire time I wore it. They're such nice people and it's like a mom and pop type store. It's like going to your auntie or family member who is happy to help you. I will continue to patronize them when I have a complicated dress to be tailored especially in short notice because they're customer service is so friendly. read more

I highly recommend this place! I have gone here a few times before, but this is my only review. First time I came here i was extremely happy when i was greeted hello. Looking for a place to get my suit dry cleaned that wasn't too far from where I live. It's was an easy job done rather quickly. Very pleased , I went back again and again . What I love about this place beside them being so good and friendly..is that they helped me out with some hemming on a favorite pair of jeans. Thank you again ! Many dry cleaners advertise using a "green" or "organic cleaning method, but in actuality the chemicals they use\ are only marginally less harmful than the chemical used in conventional dry cleaning (perchloroethylene). Needle and Thread, however, uses a truly "green" and safe method that is actually water-based and safe for "Dry Clean Only" clothes. If you prefer to avoid exposure to harmful chemicals for your family, community, and dry cleaning workers, you should give this a try.
