Having won the what to eat argument with my other half (he fancied curry) we went to Nectar on a cold sunday evening. For starters we had fattoush, an amazingly zingy fresh salad full of fresh herbs, lemon juice and little slivers of garlic bread. It was fantastic, and went perfectly with the other starter, the name of which escapes me, but it was minced lamb wrapped in pastry and was really tasty. I can't remember the names of the main courses either unfortunately (don't think i'll make a career of reviewing restaurants), but i had a dish of basmati rice, lamb and aubergines accompanied by natural yoghurt. It was fabulous, the lamb barely needed chewing, the aubergines sort of melted in your mouth and the slightly sour, tangy yoghurt went really well. The boyfriend had chicken kebab with pitta and homemade garlic mayo, and practically licked his plate clean. I tried a bit of the chicken, which was plump, succulent and perfectly seasoned. We finished with baklava, which was sticky, sweet and lovely, and something that yet again i've forgtten the name of. Sorry. But it was also very nice, sweet and sticky. Three courses each came to just over £30, which i thought was great value for such fantastic food. The restaurant is is unlicensed, but you can bring your own bottle for a corkage fee of £1.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, and happy to explain the dishes. The only critcism i can make, and it really is a small one, is that the decor wasn't brilliant. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing really wrong with it, it's nice enough, just not great.
Overall, we were both really happy with the food and service and will definitely be going back. Well worth a visit. read more
