A funky little upstairs bar above The Kingslander it is good for a quiet drink, but mostly it's best use is for private functions purposes.

On an average night one can share a drink with their in-laws while lounging on comfy sheepskin throws in the outdoor area, or can gossip, mingle and people-watch inside over a cocktail with the girls. The Ginger Minx boasts eclectic funky decor, both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a dance floor, complete with turntables where local DJ heroes like Dick Johnson can be found most nights spinning dubstep and drum n bass beats. The Mexican inspired/street-style decor and photos pinned behind the bar create a shrine-like composition that is an interesting way to occupy the time it takes bar staff to concoct their masterpieces. The Ginger Minx has managed what most bars and restaurants (especially those outside of town) aspire to; it is the perfect blend of familiarity and excitement, young and old, local and exotic - and it is this combination that keeps its patrons coming back again and again. Strongly recommended for both visitors to Auckland, as well as local residents; the fun, comfortable atmosphere means a good time is guaranteed.

The Ginger Minx is your place for all of the above. I believe it's owned by the same people who own the dominion, but thankfully they have let the manager do their own thing with the place, and it has turned into a well regarded little spot for the discerning partier. There is a spacious outdoor area, a halfway indoor-oudoor seated zone , a large table next to the window and a big dance floor in the back. A wide range of DJ's play , and you never really know what you are going to get when you go. The beers are a bit expensive - 9 dollars a pop, but they do cheap bloody marys on sundays as well as other deals - but those in particular can be a lifesaver.

The seats are for adults. Wine can be purchased from their bar and brought into the theatre. Parking is available for free across the street. Admission prices are fair. A most positive experience, as no one's cell phone went off during the film, and no one was looking at the phone (at least none that I could see)!!

Also unlike larger cinema complexes, The Lido plays more offbeat films as well as those popular blockbusters and Oscar nominated works. On top of the interesting and creative films The Lido plays, the cinemas themselves are also more comfortable and luxurious, with each theatre being decked out with nice high backed, wide seats and aisles. Glasses of wine, beer, coffees, popcorn, confectionary and Rush Munro's ice-creams are available when purchasing tickets, and the staff are all incredibly friendly, smiley girls that really contribute to the comfortable atmosphere of The Lido. This cinema is the perfect mixture of homeliness and class, and is the ideal place to meet relatives or the girls for a good movie, or alternatively romance your partner on a date.

With a full bar and extensive wine list it caters for everyone, and as a result the bar attracts patrons of all ages and walks of life. Though quite a small venue, live music is frequently played, there is room for a bit of a dance, and there is also plenty of outdoor seating. A slight down side of this however is the seated area is usually full of smokers, so be prepared. Smoking aside, Grand Central is a guaranteed good time. Regardless of whether you sit outside on the comfy couches with a wine in the afternoon or dance the night away while enjoying live music, there is never a dull moment.

You can also hire the upstairs function room for say a birthday party or work function. They have a courtyard to sit in if its not raining, which is a new addition, and you can also smoke here or out the front on comfy couches. Pop in for Happy hour after work or check them out on a busy weekend night, always a very colorful scene.
