Man of many talents. We came here recently for Book Club and sat on their long table outside. It was chilly but they have heaters and wind down awnings so it was bearable. Considering it was only a Tuesday, it was pretty busy. Obviously Grey Lynn locals don't mind a drink and to be honest, I don't blame them. If I had a cool wine bar down the road I'd be doing exactly the same. The wine list here isn't huge but it does features some interesting options, including a number of European reds. We settled on an Italian red that was full bodied and only $9 - absolute steal! They also have a short menu featuring easy to share crowd pleasers. Think sliders, cheese & charcuterie platters and the like. All in all a great spot for an after-work drink tipple - fun & friendly atmosphere without the rowdy drunks.

Although we didn't eat, we definitely plan to next time and I can recommend the cold drinks and excellent service. I'm sure the food would follow suit. Seating options are tables and leaners and outside there is a courtyard with seating. Decor is pleasing and I'm looking forward to heading back in to see those smiling faces.

The Steak & Guinness pie is a favourite of mine (pie & pint - can't beat it) but the burgers are also good - not had a disappointing meal here, nor have I ever left feeling hungry or wishing I had gone elsewhere. This is pretty close to a traditional kiwi pub. So set your expectations there and enjoy it. Good music nights - especially if you are a grown up. I enjoy it as a quiet lunch venue and as good place to stop off in the evening. The service works, but don't expect a frivolous "and how was your day". The Attica Bar is one such place, located on the top floor of the Mercure hotel on Customs Street, this bar is a rare gem. The views are fantastic and this was where I spent New Years to watch the fireworks, fantastic view. The bar features comfortable upholstered chairs that are so comfortable you'll stay for a couple of drinks, that and the staff are nice and the music is tasteful. It's a fairly new establishment in the area, but it's become a regular hangout for a few beers and very good food. You definitely feel the '80's vibe when you're there, and its always nice to see a little appreciation for that era. Their pizzas are delicious, particularly 'Rangi's Hangi' and 'Larry the Lamb'. They do a very nice caesar salad and my favourite main has to be the crispy chicken burger with aioli and melted brie- one of the best restaurant burgers I've had. They've got a good range of ciders and do a few cocktails to quench your thirst. They also serve most of their drinks in 600mL milk bottles, which is a really cool touch. I'd have to say that Nineteen Eighty One is best known for their fortnightly Wednesday quiz nights. The place gets packed and its always a good laugh- there's even a prize for the team that comes second to last.

It was really hard to decide on what star rating to give, largely because the location is so perfect it almost totally overwhelms the negatives. With something of an upscale yet welcoming vibe, we arrived midweek without a reservation and were promptly seated indoors at a window table. A window table with a perfect view of the river and woods, very relaxing. Service was ok. A little slow but not a big issue. The big issue was the food. Not that it was bad, it was just not good. It was ok. I had the chickpea veggie burger which lacked taste and was very dry, even with the aioli. Partner had the Pan Fried dumplings, 5 dumplings that were ok, again very little taste. Neither of us were impressed by the food, a real shame. We had high hopes for the Earl Grey flan desert which sounded interesting. Again, it was just ok, without much taste. Beer, wine, and the coffee we had with desert were all good. Would we go back? I don't know.

Why were the doors not closed & 'Out of Order' signs put on them?! This is disgusting! Would have left immediately but we had already ordered & paid for our Margaritas. Worse than that - the drinks tasted watery!!! We discussed this with the waitress who said they had started using a Margarita 'mix' over the last week & there had been other complaints. So why hadn't this been fixed already? Won't be going back. Shocking end to a great night where we had dined at the restaurant next door Mae Nam Khong - which has great food!
