This is a great place to go and take pictures, to collect wildflowers or simply to get some peace and quiet. Walks around the resorvoir can get muddy and slippery and in some areas there were fallen trees but it is worth it to view the area. Perfect for a picnic.

To be honest there is far too much to say about this area than one review would allow.

I can recommend walking from the beach at Llantwit Major, up the steps (on the north or the west…read moreside) and following the footpath for a mile or two. There are wonderful views and it's nice to stop and relax (perhaps with a picnic). There are no benches or tables but you can sit on the grass or one of the dry stone walls. There are stiles which you can climb over to continue. Starting a walk from Nash Point is another lovely one, and you can walk all the way to Atlantic College, which will take you down through the woodland when you get there, to the coast. Of course, once there, you can cross the slipway and continue on up steps to the cliffs on the other side too. Wherever you join the coastal walk, there are beautiful views and it's a lovely way to spend an afternoon or a whole day, especially if the weather is good.

To walk around the lake…read morewhich is around a mile and quarter, with new paths and a heap of wildlife, is really quite a treat in this normal industrial area. I take my dogs here who have to be kept on a lead and you obviously have to pick their little packages up, but you don't mind because your keeping this idyllic place perfect. You can hire bikes and carts here for mere money and there's always loads of people skating. Its like Tredegar's answer to Venice Beach! There's paths that go off from the main lake walkway and I'm told you can wander as far as Blackwood if you're brave enough. Also, along the walkways there are loads of exercising points that are suitable for the elderly, the young, the fit and the out of shape. Handy little pit stops were Blaenau Gwent Council's idea of helping the borough get fitter! There's always loads going on here. As well as caravan and camp site, there's options to go water skiing, canoeing or just rowing. The log cabin that's pretty much in the middle of the park offers meals and snacks which are incredibly low priced and pretty delicious. There's three large car parks but be warned if it's hot the whole place is busy so you may just have to use the road outside BE CAREFUL though, that road is pretty busy. There's a nice large play area for children so after letting them ride round the lake on what ever contraption you feel best, let them really tire themselves out in the park while you have an ice cream and veg on the benches. Be warned after a certain time (5 in the winter 9 in the summer) gates will be closed so if you turn up late make sure to park outside the park. I'd recomend this park for a picnic and a wander!

Also, watch out for vehicles wanting to squeeze past you, a game of chicken, do you breath in and flatten yourself to a pancake to give them confidence, or just see their eyes widen in fear of scraping your buttocks, or worse, their precious painted fender on the parapet wall. The bridge, is a single-carriageway road bridge of coursed, hammer-dressed stone, the road rising to the centre of the bridge in a small hump back. A tablet set into the parapet reads: This Bridge was built and finished at the expence of the Right Honourable Sir John Nicholl under the inspection of William Country Surveyor by Morgan Thomas of Laleston AD 1827. Apparently John Nicholl bought the Merthyr Mawr Estate in 1804. He built a new mansion there and took over the original road to Merthyr Mawr village as his own, no messing about. So, a new road had to be made available for the villagers along with a new bridge across the River Ogmore. A previous bridge with a wooden deck on stone piers, erected early 19th century was duly replaced. Beautiful spot, well worth walking or cycling to rather than just driving over.

The start point of a great walk is marked on the map and is the beginning of a footpath which leads up and up on to the Black Mountain between Pontardulais and Ammanford, once you reach the gate and mountain path keep following it up to the T junction and turn left, this is a nice circular route which depending on pace takes about an hour. The path ends up leading you to the top end of Garnswllt where the school used to be and then it's an easy walk back on the lane. There are spectacular views from the mountain and though walking boots are well advised the path is fairly clear, bit muddy in the first part of the mountain climb.

The architecture of the promenade is wonderfully preserved and I would have loved to have sat and had an ice cream on the pier had the weather not been about -5ºC! But the views were spectacular. It's wonderful for a romantic stroll, or just a place to get away from it all and clear your head.

Porthcawl Promenade was built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1887, and was most…read morerecently restored in 1996. The promenade runs along the seafront from Lock's Common in the west, down to the harbour, then joining the eastern promenade and heading down to Coney Beach and Griffin Park. The whole length of the promenade offers excellent views across the Bristol Channel, and Devon is visible on most days. A Road Train The Promenade Princess travels along the promenade from Rest Bay to Coney Beach during the summer, causing traffic congestion. There are plenty of hotels, cafes, bars and restaurants located along the prom, including two ice cream booths and a small fishing shop, on the prom itself. The promenade is also home to The Grand Pavilion theatre and controversial luxury apartments nicknamed 'the bottle bank'. At the western side of the prom is locks common, a nature reserve, popular with dog walkers, and manicured large green areas. In the town centre area the promenade looks onto the rocky seafront beach.

Really beautiful bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, very clean and well-looked after. The dining room is lovely and quite substantial breakfasts are served there! You don't have to ride horses to stay here but if that's one of your interests than there's no better place to stay! The riding stables - Cimla Equestrian Centre - is right next to the guest house and there are many lovely organised rides into the nearby forest. There are always riding lessons going on in the ring in front of the guest house and it's nice to watch all the horses and ponies being put through their paces. Everyone is very friendly.
