Do not use Brian at Neal's Hair Salon on State St.
Below is what I asked for, with caramel highlights. I don't see any highlights and the cut was a lot shorter than I wanted.
When I sat down in the chair, I showed him the picture, and mentioned that I don't do alot of styling or maintenance to my hair, I would prefer to just get out of the shower and let it dry naturally. I also asked for the cut to be below the shoulders and as you can see, it's barely touching. Afterwards, I told him I didn't like it because of how the ends were flipping out and there wasn't any volume. He said I could just put some mousse in it, tease the bottoms, and curl inward with a brush. So after telling him I don't do a lot of styling, I am now forced to do a lot of styling to make sure it looks good.
When he was cutting my hair, he parted it down the middle. I told him I parted it on the left and he said he needed to cut it from the middle to make it even. So when I parted it on the left, one side was longer. When I said I didn't see the highlights, he said he put them in and you could really see them if you lift the hair up. When said I wanted layers, he said he gave me soft, light layers otherwise it would look butchered.
On top of that, the person who did my hair made me feel very uncomfortable He kept commenting on my nice skin and touching my shoulder and knee way too much.He also asked personal, rude and invasive questions that I did not want to answer. "Do I use rice vinegar when I cook? Do I travel overseas to see my family." It was borderline racist to be honest. So I just gave one worded answers and looked at my phone, hoping he would get the hint. He didn't.
Update: I called the salon and he picked up. I told him I was upset because there weren't any highlights and he cut it shorter than I wanted. He proceeded to argue with me that he put in "light" highlights, that we talked and he thought we were on the same page. I told him that he wasn't listening to what I wanted, I asked for my hair below my shoulders, and he cut it above my shoulders. I asked for a cut to be flipped inward and he flipped it outward. I told him I don't do a lot of styling to my hair, and he told me to use mousse and blow dry my hair with a round brush.
He then said he was trying to talk to me but I was on my phone the whole time, and he's never worked on my hair so he doesn't know how it will react and that he's been working as a hairstylist for 30 years. I told him I didn't want to talk to him because I felt his questions were rude. ZERO questions about my hair, it was all personal questions.
In the end, he ended up refunding me. However, the reason I am posting this how devastated I am that he took almost 6 inches of hair that' I've been growing out for the past 4 years. On the phone I suggested that he needed to listen to his clients better so they can avoid what I went through and he got an attitude with me. . Overall, very unprofessional.
Also want to mention that while he was foiling my hair, he knocked over all the foils on the floor. Then he picked them up and reused them on my hair. read more
