I came here with a few other friends for blackberry picking. We came right as the farm opened to beat the heat. It was about 78 degrees outside, felt like 82, and with some cloudiness it was tolerable though still definitely sweaty. I would recommend bringing hiking boots or rain boots as footwear, the grass was very dewy in the morning and our feet were soaked in water after tramping on the grass for about 15 minutes. The energy at the farm was infectious! Coming from inside the loop, we are starved for nature. The welcoming vibe and natural surroundings really made it feel like a wonderful nature getaway only 45 minutes from the bustling city. The workers were smiling and relaxed, and gave us friendly advice. You can bring your own buckets but they also provide a cute cardboard box that can hold 10 lbs of berries, for 3 dollars. I would say the box is quite worth it--it has a little wire hanger on the top so you can carry it with you as you pick and the farm people suggested bringing it back in the future. They said that others have returned with boxes from 2019! We had a bit of confusion initially with the parking. There is no drive way and you drive across grass to park at the small makeshift lot, marked by cones. Pay attention to road signs on Binford road however it is pretty straightforward and should not be a huge issue. The farm is not large and you can walk from the entrance to the last blackberry field in about 15 minutes. It is easy to search the fields for ripe berries. The workers suggested where to find berries as well. As of 6/7, I saw lots of red berries but only 2-3 flowers. Although the farm put up a notice saying they are picked out for tomorrow, I would say you could probably eke out a few more weekends of blackberries, seeing the abundance of red berries. The Berry quality is amazing!! The drupes are huge and juicy. Some berries are quite large. They are extremely sweet and delicious. We initially only planned on picking a pound or two, but picking is so much fun that we ended up with 4 lbs. with entry fee being 3 dollars, basket being 3 dollars, and the fruit being 7 dollars for a lb, I'd say it is a decent deal for a few hours of decompressing in nature plus high quality, juicy fruit that is incredibly fresh and sweet. We observed abundant insect life, including lots of interesting spiders and green heteropterans. I studied entomology in college and it felt like an insect field trip honestly. Located just off 290 and FM 2920 in Waller, this farm is open for the season in early May. You'll need to refer to the website for the latest news. I had no idea that this farm existed until recently. The original owner's of Neal's Restaurant in Spring decided to get out of the restaurant business in 2009 and went into the farming business. The purpose of my visit was to pick blackberries. Farm admission is $2 for those 2 years and up. You have to pay $2 for a blackberry/fruit picking box, and you can bring it back the next time you visit. If you plan to cut vegetables and flowers, you'll need to bring your own scissors. Also don't forget to bring mosquito repellant. I barely saw any mosquitos but I got bitten. There were a lot of blackberries to pick, and they tasted good. You can even buy a plant to take home and grow yourself. You can cut as many zinnias that will fit in a solo cup for $3. I got kale, eggplant and zucchini too. I'm sad I missed peach season and fig season is coming up. There's a sink to wash your hand and a port-a-potty. The parking area was over grass, and it was organized. The people I encountered were friendly, but they are strict about closing time. The only reason why I didn't give this place an extra star was b/c there weren't activities like you would find at other farms and a picnic area (I saw tables so maybe it was closed off b/c of the pandemic.) Neal's Berry Farm is a fun outing for adults and kids alike. They have a combination of U pick (pick your own) in the fields and pre picked stuff in their farm store. Yesterday we got to pick carrots (only a few left), tomatoes (only a few left), eggplants, serrano and jalapeño peppers, a few okra, and curly and dinosaur kale. Plus we cut some zinnias. Pay for each person's entry fee (ages 2 and up), and pick to your heart's content! Mosquito repellent is highly recommended. There is no shade, so sun protection is a good idea, too. They minimize pesticide use-- "we practice sustainable farming and do use an occasional pesticide as part of our Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which manages pest damage with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment." read more

This farm has a great variety of fruits and vegetables for pick-your-own / U pick. It's not too big so everything seemed like it was walkable, no need to ride a tractor to get where you need to go. Tips: * If you're set on picking a particular fruit or vegetable: Call before going, or at bare minimum check their website * You need to show up early if they say to show up early to get (insert item). Figs were picked out before 9:50 when we went. * mosquito repellent is a good idea * Sun protection too (SPF, hats, pants, whatever floats your boat) because there's no shade * Kids like pulling the carrots out of the ground - there were lots of weeds in the carrot area but just look for the sprouts, which look similar to parsley! They're serious when they say "come early to pick XYZ" -- they open at 7:30 so we thought 9:45 was early enough-- Wrong!!! The ripe figs were picked out already... apparently some people who showed up 30 min before they even opened. read more

I recently found myself in Waller, TX and found the farm. It was an outstanding experience, farm fresh fruits, fresh flowers and an old school charm that you won't find in your megamart. Despite passing through the area I ended buying the best testing fruit I have ever eaten. Not only was the farm amazing, everyone who works there was beyond friendly and amazingly helpful. Huge blackberries and plenty of them! They are super sweet and juicy. Worth the trip. We also picked lots of beautiful Zinnia flowers and gifted them to my daughters teachers as end of year gifts. Picked zucchini and yellow squash that was absolutely delicious. Entrance was $2 per person and honestly I would pay more for the kids get to have fun and experience a real farm! Clean, friendly and tasty. I'm a city boy from NY, so it's not very often I get to eat fruit that tastes like the good Lord himself planted the seeds. Safe to say, it's worth the 2000+ miles for some great picking and juicy berries. Also, the flower are nice but my sinuses hate pollen so I had to stay at a comfortable looking distance. read more

We got maybe 20 blackberries, 3 apples, 3 small eggplant, and 4 yellow squash for $25. My son who is 2 picked apples that we were unaware he was not suppose to pick and I grabbed 3 eggplant that I also was unaware we were not suppose to pick. I then got scolded when I was checking out that "I don't read anything" and he pointed to a sign that said what we are only to pick and I missed the sign when we came in. I was completely embarrassed and said sorry but he kept going on with his wife how people don't read. Also confusing is he has areas that are roped off with huge keep out signs but nothing with vegetables and fruits that are mixed in with things that you can pick. I will not be returning to this rude farmers field. read more

This was super fun! We had two toddlers and a stroller with baby. We were able to fill a huge bucket full of blackberries for just over 50 bucks and we got three stuffed cups of cut flowers and 3 huge sunflowers for like 10 total! It was such a great price and a great experience. They had other produce to pick and such. We needed to get their earlier to beat the heat. Either come early or wear a cooling hat and clothes. The pathways are all mowed and we had no mosquito issues and no issues with a stroller. It is very sunny. I'd suggest ice in your water bottle and they have cold drinks for sale. Also bring your own sheers, the sunflower stems are really thick. Our kids and us loved it! I can't say enough positive things about it, so fun! read more

What an amazing place!! We took our blind and visually impaired students to pick blackberries and had the best time. The owners are the warmest and most welcoming people. They were so kind to our students and staff and made the necessary accommodations so that our students could be actively involved. We left with our pickings of blackberries, yellow squash, carrots, zucchini, eggplant, cucumbers and tomatoes. They also had many other vegetables, flowers, and canned preserves for sale. Neal's Berry Farm has cold drinks for purchase, a hand washing station, and a portable toilet facility to make the experience even more pleasurable. Such a great place to bring children, students of all ages and adults. We cannot wait to go back! read more

We have been to this farm many times, from the old location to the new location. So, we told our new neighbors who's a lovely Asian elderly couple because they love to garden and very knowledgeable about vegetable gardening which we will be starting as our community club. When they came back from the farm, they thanked me for telling them about it and showed me what they have picked. However, they went on and explained about their experiences and how they were being treated. THIS FARM IS RACIST and if I could give it a minus, I would. People who know me, knew that I am not one who join all this loud crowd shouting racism, etc. I have many many family and friends from around the world, many ethnicity! But I will not let this one go as I've had enough seeing my sweet neighbors being bullied at this farm. When we went with out family and friends, we were given brief explanation as to where to go to pick certain fruits or vegetables and they would asked if we have picked them before, and they would show us if we have no experiences. Unfortunately that was not the case with our neighbors. They were even told that kale that has turned yellow is ok to pick and take home. Really, Neal's? And then they were also told multiple times that they should not be eating the berries,etc.... we are civilized and educated folks, you do not have to say that! And if you do, please say it to EVERYONE, and not just targeting on my lovely Asian neighbors. Shame on you, Neal's. We will not be back, and for sure, we will tell all we know! read more

I love this farm! Our family is originally from Germany and we miss the farmer's market of home. This little u-pick farm was a wonderful treat for our family. A friend who volunteers at the farm has been asking us all summer to come out and enjoy it. MY KIDS ACTUALLY picked the grapes and the eggplants! I understand during the first part of their season they have blackberries and tomatoes and even peaches! I am sad we missed the first part of the season, but our family was very happy to be at the last day of the season this year and we will be back weekly when Neal's Berry Farm opens in the spring 2023!!! I cant say enough great things about this farm. I went there today with my youngest son and he had a blast picking blackberries. The farmers were so sweet and seem really knowledgeable about what they grow. The farmer even took the time to explain to us how to pick the vegetables from the field. The farmers wife was also very kind and told us about the jellies and preserves she makes from the produce there. We got a mustang grape jelly and let me tell y'all it is so tasty my son wants to eat it with a spoon! It was super hot today so we will likely plan our next trip for one of their evening picking times. It was very difficult to keep my little one from eating as he picked but I made him understand that we must not eat before we pay because that is stealing. Just like you shouldn't eat the fruit at Kroger or H‑E‑B before you weigh it to buy it.... I told him to think of it that way and he understood. I can't wait to plan a trip with some of the neighbors and their kids to pick even more berries and veggies. I see cobbler and grilled zucchini with Cole slaw and tomatoes in our future. I took my sons to pick blackberries and we were pleasantly surprised by how much more the farm offers. Besides the hundreds of blackberry vines, there are all kinds of tomatoes, squashes, and fruit trees. The people we spoke with were so kind and helpful. If you don't want to pick the food yourself, they have a farmers' market stand as well. We will be going back regularly this summer. read more
