Some salads from the salad bar
Tina C.

This place is a hidden gem! I was looking for byob places in Laval, and came across Nazareth, specializing in middle eastern food. The decor is simple and clean - dark wood tables, banquets against the walls, and photos and artwork on the walls. Many dishes come with the salad bar - which is awesome! This is not your typical salad bar - there was fattoush, tabbouleh (refreshing but a little salty), cucumber salad, possibly the best babaganoush I've ever had, pickled turnips, olives, tomato-based slaw, and more. Everything was great. We were brought piping hot fresh pitas (house-made!) and delicious and smooth hummous. Our waitress was pleasant and funny, and recommended the Nazareth chicken ($11), which she said was delicious. It was! Mildly sweet and incredibly juicy. At our table was also the shish taouk plate ($9.50), kafta plate ($11), and filet mignon brochette plate ($13). Everything was very good - the kafta was flavouful and packed with crispy pieces of onion and fresh parsley, and the filet was nicely cooked, though there was a little grizzle. There was a bit of confusion with the orders in terms of ordering half rice/potatoes and only receiving potatoes, but the rice was good so I didn't mind. The value/quantity/quality ratio is pretty hard to beat - I wish I knew about his place earlier!

I'm a die hard fan of Jack flat bbq since it's opening. But with the new menu, many thing change…read more The first thing you'll notice in that new menu is the daily special? Gone. . No more wonderful steak Philly on the Friday. Most of what was offered on that daily menu is permanently gone. They added many different poutine that actually existed before but part of a secret menu you could learn from their social network page. Some starter too. They change the recipe of some of the food. The Mac N cheese is now more creamier and the cheese is more present and flavourful. I never had it by itself, but in the poutine Mac TeX, it's a miss for me. It used to be the poutine I always take when I go there, poutine Mac TeX. Tried it 4 times already since the switch, always the same and I don't like it unfortunately. Maybe others don't. From the post they made on Instagram stating that it was now creamier due to popular demand, I guess that's how people like it. But I think people was taking it by itself and not into a poutine (I never see much people eating a mac te when I'm there). Also the new Mac N cheese on the Mac TeX make it you taste nothing except the creamy liquid cheese from the Mac N cheese, nothing else. I normally add the homemade steak sauce available on the table in the poutine and when I tried it with the new recipe, it wasn't good. I also trie the dirty Poutine. I totally forgot what it is. There's like 2 sauce, I think it's meat sauce? Sorry I really forget. It was good, but about half way through, I was done with the taste just like the current Mac TeX. I still finished it though. Again, it's not bad, everyone has different taste and I started by liking it. I had the same experience when eating the smashburger poutine after eating a smash burger. Don't do it, take either one, not both unless your really into the taste of smashburger cause that's the only thing you taste. Last time I went, I took again the smashburger double cheese and bacon, a must for me, and I took a regular poutine. First time in what, 2 years and at least 30 visit that I take the regular one. It was good. I do miss my og Mac TeX but it's a good replacement. The bonus is it cost about 10$ less and fill less, so I was able to take something off the desert menu for the first time. I toon the chocolate cake and it was very good. The service is always good when I go there. It might be a bit a miss when it's overbooked specially if your table is hidden In a corner (happened a bit in the past). The only reason I bring from 5 to 4 stars is only because I prefered the old menu and old recipe. I did talk to a staff last time about the Mac TeX recipe and was told sometime it's because of new chef. I guess he wasn't aware that the recipe actually change, he did seemed new since I hadn't seen him before. I'll talk to jack or one of the owner last time, not to bad mouth, simply to have feedback from customer on the menu.

The staff were friendly and helpful even with their limited English and our limited French. They have English menus, you just have to ask. After placing our orders the waitress asked us if we like our coleslaw traditional or creamy. We all figured that our meals came with it and we had the option of which type and just hadn't noticed it on the menu. NOPE! A minute later she comes back with a heaping side plate of slaw to share. I found the slaw to be a little heavy on the oil and not heavy enough on the vinegar. When our meals arrived we were surprised at the large portions for a lunch menu. I ordered the double leg meal. I devoured the meaty thighs on my plate like Neil would devour breasts at a fried chicken place (or in a busty woman's bedroom). The meat was tender and moist, though slightly on the greasy side, and fell off the bone. Instead of fries I had a caesar salad, which was also fantastic. It was rich and heavy on the garlic. It was a caesar that I would expect from a 4 star restaurant. Unfortunately my group and I were running late and couldn't try the dessert that was included with our meals. Next time I guess. Oh yes, there will be a next time!
