Upon entering G bar any reservations I may have had dissappeared as it was clear that rather than being about sexuality this place was all about an amazing clubbing experience. The drinks may not be cheap in G bar but you get the feeling that these prices help to pay for all the other careful preparation which goes into the set up of the place. From decoration to Djs it is clear that the people behind G bar put alot of time money and effort into what they do and all of this enhances your night out. My only qualms with G bar would be the music which is far too dance orientated for my taste and can be a bit repetitive, however this is just me being picky. On the whole good club and a good night out whenever I have visited.

It has become increasingly popular, especially since the closure of some big names in Liverpool's gay town. G-Bar is situated on Eberle Street right opposite Garlands', which leads to a very crowded outside, which somtimes has more atmosphere than inside! . So to the music, Gbar offers a wide variety of music; to suit everyone's musical taste. It is open 5 nights a week and just like Garlands, Gbar welcomes all types of people, although it is advertised as gay friendly, it is very popular with straight people alike. G-Bar plays host to some of the city's best DJ's and without doubt it has become one of the best afterhours club in Liverpool. Some nights are free entry but watch out because popularly nights can cost up to £7!

Immediately you feel welcomed upon entry into this pub, whether it's the friendly staff or the warm ambience or a combination of both, it's homely and it's comfortable. It's tiny too and bursting with life, its colourful nature no doubt down to the fact that it lives in the heart of Liverpool's gay quarter, and with a few real ales on tap I didn't need convincing to stay. Not that I actually drink all real ales, only the fruity ones, but I appreciate their existence. They give a pub character. £1.50 for a treble spirit means you're likely to become a little bleary-eyed if you like to drink shorts, but it's the best kind of place to get bleary-eyed in. Everyone's a shiny happy person, not in an ironic way, people strike up conversations with total strangers because it's just that kind of place, and I've never encountered any animosity in here whatsoever. It's just adorable.

But let's face it, when we think Gay Quarter, we think neon, thumping music, bright colours and highly modern. We don't necessarily think a massively traditional-looking pub with a gigantic ornate ceiling and dark wooden features with snugs in which to sit. That's why everybody loves the Lisbon - it's a little bit different. There's a disco area so there's plenty of room for a boogie, which people do like to do from fairly early on in the evening. Tasty pub grub is served during the day and the pool table gets used regularly at this time too, although they do tend to cover it when the place gets rammed. You don't want fights breaking out over a good game of pool now, do you? Not that there'd be fights here. Everyone's very happy and content, and I'd definitely recommend the warm welcome the Lisbon offers.

The grimy nightclub I'd pictured in my head when this place was spoken of turned out to be a dark wood-panelled room of exquisite design, both historic and unconventional. Now if someone could just explain how much of a coincedence it is that Lisbon sounds like lesbian I'd be sorted.

I just keep them coming) but the main thing to know is that it's popular and it seems to be one of the few gay bars I've come across that seems to understand that its clientele, whatever their sexual persuasion, might want to watch sports too. Because of its location it's considered a gay bar but it's probably more gay friendly as you'll find a mixed bag of peeps in there. There's a heck of a lot of focus on the pool table and the camaraderie and competitiveness seem to be very fun and tongue in cheek. Plenty of screens for games provide entertainment, and if pool's not your game there is a quiz machine, but if you fancy getting social with your team mates there is a games night on Wednesdays or karaoke at the weekends. Competitive karaoke. Now that'd be worth seeing. The decor seems a little rushed, with very low ceilings and somewhat blank canvases begging for a bit of personality, thus the place can have a little bit of a cold feel. Still, the crowds make up for it, and their boisterousness is infectious. It's a happy place, carefree and full of friends, and because of that it gives the G word back its double meaning.

The worst…read moretype of patrons out of every bar i have visited todate. -- I have been drinking for roughly 7 years now, my home city is liverpool yet i have drank in multiple cities over that time and in multiple countries. This bar has quite easily been the worst i have ever visited. I was unceremoniously thrown out by the neck by a bouncer for politely asking a woman to sit up off my jacket so that i could remove it from her seat after someone had moved it without my permission..... i cannot stress how politely i asked this simple request. First of all I am the most passive and non aggressive man imaginable, i couldn't hurt another human being if that person was assaulting me and that is a fact. Yet as the bouncers saw 2 men and a women violently shoving and spitting insults in the face of a man holding up both hands, in a universal sign of non aggression, they proceeded to roughly grab that obviously innocent and unhostile man by the neck and chuck him out onto the street without even bothering to find out what the issue was. The bouncers actually left the obviously violent patrons in the bar to carry on drinking and snorting to their heart's content, with his property still in their possession. If they had simply taken a second to ask 1 god damn question before acting rashly and heavy handedly, the issue could have been resolved peacefully or atleast correctly. But the staff at this club simply do not care, and the patrons.... are the worst! patrons i have ever seen for an establishment. Do yourself a favour and avoid this bar at all costs, for your own safety if nothing else. After contacting the clubs social media pages and informing them of the incident they refused to even respond let alone apologise for the bouncers rash actions. When i messaged again the next day, they blocked me!..... This business is a joke and needs looking into.

Being a non-gayosexual with a burning hatred of repetitive dance tracks and pretty much nothing to provide the locals, Heaven should be the kind of place I visit less than the surface of the sun. But it isn't. I don't know if I'm slowly rolling into being nocturnal but when the other clubs shut at four in the goddamn morning, it still seems too early. Maybe I'm just broken. And so we head off to Heaven to continue the merriment for another two hours, merriment that dies an acidic death the moment I walk in and realise with a heavy heart that I'm here again. Over the pounding, cyclical music you can just about shout the bar staff for a drink, which you can consume as you push the time to the shadowiest recesses of your brain and point out oddballs. I once saw a middle-aged man with Eric Morecambe glasses, a Stalin moustache and the kind of frock Desperate Dan would consider a brilliant disguise leaning against the bar, looking at nobody and drinking alone. I reckon he was comforted by the lack of aggro but he looked so forlorn at the godawful hour he'd had to stay up till to get it he probably wondered if it was even worthwhile. Review-wise, giving Heaven one star would just be cruel because after all is said and done, it's my own damn fault I don't enjoy it. It would be like running into a brick wall then complaining it's too hard. In these summer months, by the time 6am rolls around the sun is already high enough in the sky to make it bona fide daylight. You think crawling into bed twenty-four hours after you woke up would make me learn the error of my ways, but then you greatly underestimate the stubbornness of the drunken mind.

My last visit to Garlands really changed my opinion, unfortunately it suddenly seemed tacky and over priced and the music was more repetitive than I can explain I walked into the same room after a thirty minute delay and heard the same song. This night happened to be Halloween and there had been much anticipation that there was going to be a big budget extravaganza at Garlands, this did not happen.
