If you're looking for a gay bar with a sporty edge, this is the place for you. Located in Liverpool's Gay Quarter, The Jupiter, or Jupiter's... everyone seems to have a different name for it (Jupe-Jupe? L'Jupite? Piter Bread? I just keep them coming) but the main thing to know is that it's popular and it seems to be one of the few gay bars I've come across that seems to understand that its clientele, whatever their sexual persuasion, might want to watch sports too.
Because of its location it's considered a gay bar but it's probably more gay friendly as you'll find a mixed bag of peeps in there. There's a heck of a lot of focus on the pool table and the camaraderie and competitiveness seem to be very fun and tongue in cheek. Plenty of screens for games provide entertainment, and if pool's not your game there is a quiz machine, but if you fancy getting social with your team mates there is a games night on Wednesdays or karaoke at the weekends. Competitive karaoke. Now that'd be worth seeing. The decor seems a little rushed, with very low ceilings and somewhat blank canvases begging for a bit of personality, thus the place can have a little bit of a cold feel.
Still, the crowds make up for it, and their boisterousness is infectious. It's a happy place, carefree and full of friends, and because of that it gives the G word back its double meaning. read more
