After working as an Office Manager in a dental office, I had heard from our referred patients that Dr. Fathi was great! So last week when I needed a root canal, I went to Dr. Fathi at Samaritan Endodontics. I found her to be very skillful, knowing of her experience and reputation. My experience with Dr. Fathi was as pleasant as a visit to an endodontist can be. She is experienced, skillful, personable, and took the time to answer all my questions. Her assistant, Jennifer, and office manager, Yolie, also get high marks for their friendliness, efficiency, and professionalism. I was referred to Dr. Fathi by my dentist to look at an infected tooth. During the initial consultation, Dr. Fathi diagnosed my problem, answered all my questions, and helped me explore the options for treatment. I was able to have subsequent questions answered by emailing Dr. Fathi directly. After taking a week to research my options, I decided to have an Apicoectomy (root tip surgery) to treat the infected tooth. My interactions with Dr. Fathi gave me confidence that she would do the best job possible in treating my tooth. Before the Apicoectomy, I was given precise instructions and prescribed pain and relaxation medications. During the procedure, Dr. Fathi explained everything she was doing and kept me informed as to what to expect. The light and humorous banter between Dr. Fathi and her assistant, Jennifer, kept me updated on their progress. Dr. Fathi checked in with me frequently to make sure I was comfortable and pain-free. The entire procedure was completed with minimal discomfort. Afterward, I was given clear post-surgery instructions. It has now been three months since the surgery and the tooth has been problem-free. A pain free root canal? Wow! A 3 root molar went south, just days before an international trip. Dr. Fathi squeezed me in the next day and did a wonderful job fixing it. I lay there thinking, "This is no big deal!" throughout the whole thing. She is kind and thorough, and her equipment is excellent (a 3D CT scanner in addition to the usual xray machines). I found her staff excellent, and her personal and technical skills remarkable. I have had root canals before, and this was by far my easiest experience, in spite of it being a molar. There was no pain, although I didn't take anything other than a local and some advil, she works gently but confidently, so it was not uncomfortable, and it was remarkably quick, considering how many roots the tooth had. I drove home afterwards and went right back to work. Amazing! Her office is lovely and has great free parking. I won't go back to anyone else. Her skill and gentleness made it a great experience, especially considering how awful root canals can be. read more

My visit to Dr Fathi was like going to visit a long time friend. I was so nervous about having my first root canal done and she spent the time getting to know me as a person not just a patient and answered all of my questions and concerns so that I felt relaxred and in good hands. My son's dentist suggested that he see an endodontic after injuring from the skateboard. I contacted Dr. Fathi's office to see if I could schedule the earliest appt as my dental insurance will no longer cover my son in the next two weeks. Dr. Fathi was so nice to schedule the next day's appointment at 8 am for consultation and root canal on the same week. My son did not have any pain after the numbness goes away. Used profanity. Is extremely unprofessional. Did a root canal with a post too large causing a VRF. She left for the weekend with no way of reaching her for my pain. She called me from Chicago and told me to get a new Endodonist! I paid her in full before she started. And told her when she came home she would finish. She did. Dr. Fathi is fabulous! Her endodontic expertise combined with her sunny personality put me completely at ease. My dentist sent me to her for an evaluation (thinking I might need a root canal). I was contacted the same day to schedule an appointment! The office took great safety precautions with hepa air filters, in each room, only one patient entering or leaving at a time and no touch registration and payment. She examined me and referred me to an oral surgeon and then scheduled a root canal. She performed the root canal and then apparently didn't have the proper glue to refasten my bridge, which came off as soon as I returned home. The oral surgeon's office couldn't open the 3-D x-ray she took and so had to do again and then told me that the tooth that had just treated would need to come out. So I had a root canal for nothing. She could have waited for the oral surgeon to consult before the root canal but didn't do that. I emailed her about this and she never replied. Nice lady, poor dentist. read more

I've now seen Dr. Fathi on several occasions. I've never had a more caring Dentist who listens to all of my concerns and takes everything into account. After having several bad experiences in my childhood which left me VERY anxious when going to any dentist, let alone getting a root canal, Dr. Fathi and her entire staff understood and made sure at every step that I was comfortable and completely out of pain. Was referred to Dr. Fathi for a root canal by my dentist Dr. Dyer. As someone who has severe dental anxiety and shakes aggressively from being so nervous she made me feel like extremely relaxed and that my anxiety was normal. After around 45min the root canal was finished and I was very surprised by how calm I was all thanks to Dr. Fathi. She deserves ten stars. In November my son Max had an accident and knocked out an adult front tooth. We rushed him to ER and they sent us on to an emergency dentist who re-implanted the tooth. Unfortunately the implantation did not go well and that dentist referred us to an endodontist. Things got worse as he probed the area without anesthetic (very traumatic for an 8 year old), really did not seem to understand what was wrong and couldn't communicate with us. He did want to do a root canal though, even though he didn't understand the situation. We asked our usual dentist for a referral to an endodontist. This endodontist felt that a full root canal was required and a complex procedure as well (that she had only done twice) to close the root of the tooth. She wanted to start immediately. We turned to yelp and found a great pediatric dentist (who I will also write a review for). She looked at the situation and referred us to Nava Fathi. Going to Nava's office was a completely different experience. Nava has an excellent bedside manner with kids and Max was much happier. Rather than rushing into a root canal she carefully assessed that the tooth could be alive and that the infection might be above it. She has a CAT scan machine in her office and that was able to show that the bone in front of the tooth had been damaged. That meant that the root canal probably wouldn't be successful. She suggested trying to drain the infected site and a course of antibiotics. Nava also connected us with a dental surgeon who was also excellent, good with kids and not rushing into doing anything. Able to explain the options clearly. This worked (at least for now) and Max still has his tooth seven months on. Nava has the right equipment (we didn't see another endodontist with a CAT scan machine). She is great with kids. Going to Nava meant that Max avoided having at least three operations to have a root canal that would almost certainly have been unsuccessful. She is connected to a network of other very competent dental professionals and was happy to use them to get the right advice. She had every opportunity to persuade us to go for more expensive options and surgery but she recommended the right medical choice instead. The bills for the CAT scan and consultation where reasonable and were way less than we would have paid to have the root canal done. Every time we have seen her she has taken the time to explain and we have not been rushed at all. All of the staff in the office were very nice as well. read more

When it came to needing a root canal I asked my oral surgeon to give me the name of an Endodontist he thought I would like. (I was not impressed with the Endodontist my regular dentist had referred me to in Redwood City.) It was well worth the drive (30 minutes) and I was very impressed with the exceptional care I received in the office of Dr. Nava Fathi. She listens to her patients and makes certain they are comfortable and not experiencing any pain during the entire procedure. Her staff is professional and concerned about their patients. They even called the next day to make sure I was alright! In addition, Dr. Fathi asks patients to return 6 months following the procedure to take x-rays and make certain everything is alright. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Nava Fathi for anyone considering having a root canal. I'm thrilled that I found someone who is outstanding and cares about ME and not their next game of golf. read more

My only problem with writing this review is that there are only 5 stars! I would give Dr. Fathi more if I could. I had been told by my previous dentist that I needed to have a crowned tooth pulled and an implant done. I know many people that have had bad experiences, so I saw another dentist whose very savvy assistant thought that I should see Dr. Fathi saw me quickly, and did a 3D CT scan to really visualize the problem before jumping to a conclusion. Turns out that there was an issue UNDER the previous root canal, which she showed me (super cool btw!) Then on to root canal #2 on that tooth, which was quick and as painless as possible. She saved my tooth, AND she made me laugh (tho not at precisely the same time). She is an amazing dental professional and a really great human being... and yes... the gas has fully worn off. Dr. Fathi was more thorough in his diagnosis and treatment than any other DDS I have ever been to. I have been to more than 5 DDS in the past 5 years (due to moving to different cities). Since finding out I needed a root canal, I have been the recipient of a number of sympathetic responses ("Oh no!" "That sucks") combined with facial expressions ranging from sheer terror to the sort of look you only see on people's faces during funerals. By the time I made my way to Dr. Fathi's office on a recommendation from my DDS, I was quite literally sweating buckets and mentally preparing myself for "The Worst." Honestly, I needn't have worried at all. 1 - Dr. Fathi greeted me when I walked into her tastefully-appointed waiting room. She is very chatty, warm, and the sort of person you immediately take a liking to (unless you are one of those prickly sorts who prefers all human contact be left to a bare minimum at all times). She has a wide smile and a great sense of humor and it was obvious to me this was not the behavior of someone who spends a large portion of her time torturing patients. 2 - The front desk and support staff were incredibly friendly without being neglectful of their regular duties. And they all genuinely seemed to like each other which, let's face it, isn't always the case in some doctor's offices. 3 - The consultation was thorough and included some additional x-rays, questions, and a lot of non-dental related chit chat (which I always appreciate). By the time it was done, I had a comprehensive understanding of what needed to happen and how the procedure worked. The billing was explained to me in detail and aside from the shock that comes with knowing how much a root canal costs, nothing about the payment process seemed unreasonable or shady. 4 - Fast forward to one week later. I showed up for my 8:45 AM root canal appointment and was immediately welcomed, offered water, asked if I needed to use the restroom, and then brought back into the treatment room. Dr. Fathi's assistant set me up and within five minutes, Dr. Fathi was there prepping the needle. There was quite literally NO pain whatsoever with the injections aside from the very slightest poke when she injected the roof of my mouth. Once I was numbed up, the procedure began. The worst part of the whole experience was having to use the bite guard they'd inserted into the left side of my mouth to keep my mouth open while Dr. Fathi did her magic. But aside from that, there was ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN or discomfort before, during, after the procedure. It was over faster than I thought it would be. They asked if I might want a Rx for pain meds. I decided not to bother and I'm glad I didn't because I wouldn't have needed them in the end. Once the numbness wore off, I only had the slightest tenderness in my right jaw and that was it. All in all, this was quite literally one of the best dental-related experiences I have ever had. I have no qualms whatsoever about going back to Dr. Fathi for future work. And I highly recommend her for anyone who feels nervous about root canals or for those who simply want to have the best possible experience. read more

I wish I could recommend Dr. Fathi but her financial fleecing of patients, overcharging and dishonesty after my visit has been quite unfortunate. Dr. Fathi informed me that if I needed/wanted nitrous oxide for my procedure it would be entirely out of pocket- my insurance would not pay. She and the office staff confirmed that I would need to pay $100 up front with the knowledge it would not be reimbursed. I consented and went forward with my root canal. Two months after my root canal I receive a bill for $209 for nitrous oxide. It is very unprofessional & unreasonable to initially inform the patient that the fee for nitrous oxide is $100 dollars and then charge an additional $209 after the procedure is performed. I would not have consented if they I knew the total cost for the nitrous oxide would be $309. Dr. Fathi and her team sent my bill to collection after refusal to pay this unreasonable fee and refuses to discuss her dishonesty and misinformation. If you are looking for a dishonest dentist who is all about fleecing you then Dr. Fathi is for you. read more

Dr. Nava Fathi is an outstanding, highly skilled endodontist and I am lucky to have found her. Not only is she a top-notch practitioner very educated and experienced in her field, she also has a professional and caring chair-side manner --- which comes in handy in her profession! Prior to coming under Dr. Fathi's care, my former endodontist performed 2 failed root canals on a tooth that ultimately had to be extracted. Several years later another tooth started to bother me, so I went back to that same endodontist for treatment. Unbelievably the root canal that he performed on this second tooth failed as well, and I had a severe infection and was in excruciating pain. Luckily, I was referred to Dr. Fathi by an oral surgeon whom I had confidence and trust in, and all I can say is thank goodness!! Dr. Fathi's initial examination revealed that a canal had been left untreated and presented me options to address. There was no guarantee that re-treatment would be successful given my history. She was very thorough in her diagnosis and in working with me to understand and decide upon the course of treatment. I ultimately had the tooth retreated (versus extraction) and because the infection was so severe, we knew that it might take months to settle down. Rather than rush through the treatment, Dr. Fathi took a phased approach to ensure that the outcome was successful. There was no additional charge for this level of care, and I am finally pain free! Her office staff is wonderful; the office itself is very modern, clean and conveniently located. Thank you Dr. Fathi! $374 is Way too much for an office visit/consultation and x-rays. Audry told me that Dr. Walker Would be able to use the CT scan and that was not the case. Dr. Walker had me take another CT scan. $224 for consultation and $150 for a CT scan are you kidding me that's crazy expensive. I do not feel that I should have to pay for that CT scan. And $224 for an office visit is nuts. read more
