The bathroom has a trick shower where a fair amount of water runs across the floor. The staff was very helpful with one key exception: the woman who appeared to be the manager. Despite certificates from hospitality training school, she was literally the only person we encountered in 5 days in PR who was unhelpful. When we arrived at 3:30 pm after driving from San Juan, her first reaction was to tell us to go away and come back at 4:00. Seriously. She finally allowed us to wait on the terrace until our room was ready. Then she gave us tokens for "welcome" drinks after making us feel unwelcome. Dear manager, here's how you make guests feel welcome: "Oh my goodness, your room won't be ready for another 20-30 minutes. I invite you to wait in the bar/terrace and enjoy your welcome drinks until the room is ready."

What really set them apart though, was the people who run this inn. They were so lovely and welcoming, and seemed to genuinely care about us having a good time there. Not just at the inn, but the things we did while we were there as well. They talked to us about our plans, gave tips along the way. They made sure we knew of all the factors that could impact our trip to the airport on our final day. They were literally the best. We enjoyed them so much that we spent the end of our evenings at the inn bar, chatting with them because we really enjoyed their company. They also know how to make an excellent drink, with really fresh ingredients. That leads me into breakfast.... So fresh and tasty! They give you great options to choose from and you can even decide if you want to eat breakfast on the patio or have it delivered to your room. They really know how to enhance a vacation! This was the best part of our trip in Puerto Rico. The beauty on this side of the island is insane. It's a little bit cooler, which we loved! And swimming in the bioluminescence was unforgettable. 12 out of 10 recommend!

As we made our way around the island, we needed a single night stay on 1/3/19 and Nichole C found this place. Although I had my doubts (especially based on how it looks from the outside), it turned out to be sort of charming. Upon checking in, we were given a sealed plastic pouch with a TV remote control and our room key--an actual, honest to goodness metal KEY attached to a cute painted wooden turtle! The front desk even has those retro cubbies for mail and packages, something you never see these days. Our room was quaint, a far cry from the Hyatt Regency's and Embassy Suites of the world. The bathroom was small and the water pressure in the shower wasn't great, plus the ceiling tiles were pretty beat up. No bugs though (thank god). Don't bother asking for the Wi-Fi password.....there isn't one. In fact, there was no internet connection *at all* in our room, nor in the common areas. Parador Villa Parguera is located in Lajas, a fairly remote part of the island that will really test your phone's 4G LTE coverage. There was a pool, in addition to a courtyard area with a waterfall and some very nice landscaping. My girl joked that it'd be perfect for weddings, I told her "mmmmm, we could do better". PVP has their own restaurant and backs right up to the waterfront. The motel seemed to have some pretty strict rules regarding check out: they'll charge you $25 if you don't check out by 11am, and after 12pm the cost turns into an entire night's stay! Don't forget to return the remote control, or they'll ding you a separate $25 fee. * TL;DR * I would advise setting multiple wake-up alarms and NOT missing the 11am check-out time, otherwise you could be in for an unpleasant surprise. The beds are comfy enough and the motel is close to the downtown area. Pool seemed nice. If you can survive without hi-speed internet connections for a night or two, then I'd have no problem recommending Parador Villa Parguera.

This is an adults only hotel. The rooms are modern in design and comfortable. Service is very good and responsive to concerns or issues. Parking is limited and the hotel is in the heart of activity. Each guest receives an armband that is used to access the room and other areas in the hotel. Love this, but a bit of a panic if you lose it as the replacement is not cheap. The area is slow Monday -Thursday and begins to pickup for the weekend. There is scuba diving, snorkeling, boat trips, restaurants and shops concentrated in the center of the area. What is not understood until you arrive, is the music. I listen to music all day, if I can. However, somewhere around 9 pm-10 Pm ,I'm ready to turn off the music. My spouse and I were there for 3 days and did road trips most of the day returning to the hotel late in the evening. The pool area is beautiful and there is a restaurant available. At midnight, the music continued to blare as well as the loud conversations. This made it difficult to sleep/rest after a long day of hiking and exploring the island. One night, the staff began to power wash the restaurant area with music playing. I give deference to workers always and know they work for very little for the work they are asked to do. As the conversation and laughter got louder, we did ask the front desk to speak to the workers. This did quiet the hotel a bit. The thing here is that if you like a lively place with music until the early hours in the morning, this is the place for you. I ate at the hotel and had a tapas: Montaditos de Langosta - Lobster in aioli sauce over fried plantains. The description was mouth watering and what came on the plate looked curious, but it was absent of flavor. The langosta was hidden. This is the crab cake dilemma: too many fillers that the delicate state of the langostino is lost and you have to rely on memory to know what it tastes like. Fried plantains are as good as anyplace, but less the reason for the tapas - though I love plantains. The last morning, I had French toast for breakfast. This was the most beautifully presented breakfast I have ever had. Typically, when french toast comes with whipped cream, it can overwhelm the plate but this was done well. I truly enjoyed the meal until I got to the center of the toast which was undercooked. This is also a moment I have experienced many times before: French toast not fully cooked with a soggy center. It reduces what would have been an A+ experience. Truth be told, I would have it again, but ask the chef to "make it a bit crispy" to see if that solves the problems. They do get an A+ for presentation and taste.

True to the name, there are hammocks everywhere, including one outside each room's entrance. Awesome pool area with a waterfall and tons of cute seating. And even though Puerto Rico as a whole never fails to delight me (a Minnesotan) with the kindness of the people, the staff of La Jamaca were endlessly thoughtful, friendly, and professional beyond my expectations. The food didn't impress me. I did actually like having breakfast each morning; the eggs, french toast, and coffee were all good. But the dinner entrees we tried were big on quantity, not so big on quality. And pretty high-priced as well. We had taco dinners and a mofongo - the latter was pretty good but quite salty, and the tacos were lacking in flavor. Also can't recommend the avocado toast. One more thing: the shower took 5+ minutes to get above room temperature, and infinity minutes to reach a temperature that could be reasonably described as "hot". But other than that, solid hotel. Clean place, comfortable beds, gated parking area, and again VERY nice staff. I sincerely hope I have a chance to return!

Although he'd reserved a studio, when we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a one-bedroom unit, as the studio's door was being repaired. Late check in was very easy. The property's deck is large and has a gorgeous view of the beach directly below. You really cannot beat the location of Villa Tropical on Shacks. We enjoyed drinking our coffee on the deck whilst watching the sun rise in the mornings before grabbing our gear and walking down the short flight of steps to the sand. The gift shop within the office is a major time saver, too, when you need a drink or snack but don't want to drive. The Econo supermarket is only about an 8-minute drive away, though, when you do want to do a grocery run. It was awesome having a fully stocked kitchen and being able to cook and eat in most meals. We loved grilling on the deck at sunset! The Ola Lola restaurant is a cute spot a short walk away for food or drinks when one would rather skip cooking, too, and in each room, there is a very thorough guide compiled by the management with information on where to find all kinds of things in the area, from film development to entertainment. It was extremely convenient to be able to do laundry on the premises also. The staff are super helpful and maintain VT very well. Our unit (1B) was clean and comfortable, and by the end of our stay, we had fallen into a nice, homey routine. I was sad to leave and understand why Shacks is a place so many return to every year. The beach is clean, the big waves break far from the shore, there are interesting reefs for snorkeling, many days have adequate wind for kitesurfing, and there is a friendly surfer community among those who stay in the area both longer term and seasonally.
