My bf is a regular annual guest at Villa Tropical and made a reservation here for a week for us before Christmas this year. Although he'd reserved a studio, when we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a one-bedroom unit, as the studio's door was being repaired. Late check in was very easy. The property's deck is large and has a gorgeous view of the beach directly below. You really cannot beat the location of Villa Tropical on Shacks. We enjoyed drinking our coffee on the deck whilst watching the sun rise in the mornings before grabbing our gear and walking down the short flight of steps to the sand. The gift shop within the office is a major time saver, too, when you need a drink or snack but don't want to drive. The Econo supermarket is only about an 8-minute drive away, though, when you do want to do a grocery run. It was awesome having a fully stocked kitchen and being able to cook and eat in most meals. We loved grilling on the deck at sunset! The Ola Lola restaurant is a cute spot a short walk away for food or drinks when one would rather skip cooking, too, and in each room, there is a very thorough guide compiled by the management with information on where to find all kinds of things in the area, from film development to entertainment. It was extremely convenient to be able to do laundry on the premises also. The staff are super helpful and maintain VT very well. Our unit (1B) was clean and comfortable, and by the end of our stay, we had fallen into a nice, homey routine. I was sad to leave and understand why Shacks is a place so many return to every year. The beach is clean, the big waves break far from the shore, there are interesting reefs for snorkeling, many days have adequate wind for kitesurfing, and there is a friendly surfer community among those who stay in the area both longer term and seasonally. read more

Our favorite place to stay in PR. Q3 and Q4 decks have phenomenal views of the ocean and are so relaxing. The apartments are always very clean. A great place for swimming and snorkeling the reef. Close to many restaurants and the grocery store. The owners and management are super friendly! read more

After our family week in the VI we needed to lay back and relax. We found that at Villa Tropical! The villa was absolutely perfect! All the amenities you need are here. We stayed in the quaint front studio that had a fridge, stove, cups, plates, silverware, HUG closet, ceiling fan, air conditioner, and dish TV - I don't even have dish TV at home! The deck has a community grill to BBQ, lounge chairs, picnic table, and small shower to clean off the sand from the beach. Speaking of community items we also found some leftover food items from the previous tents. (i.e. salt, pepper, jelly, peanut butter) It was nice since you have to buy your own food. When we left we added to the community pantry. The beach was breathtaking! It was so secluded, you could walk ten minutes down the beach and maybe see two people. We absolutely loved it! Booking our stay was super easy, I was able to email Jen and she took care of everything! When we checked in, her husband Trevor was there to greet us. He was excellent & so helpful in letting us know where we can go into town for groceries and what to do around town. He suggested horseback riding and I'm so glad he did! That was the best time I have ever had riding! The barn was a short walk down the street, for $40pp we got to go on a 2 1/2 hour ride thru the rainforest, along the beach, all while learning about different landmarks. We took a 30min break in between and got to go into the small caves on the beach and even took a little hike up the mountain. It was fabulous! read more

I've stayed at Villa Tropical dozens of times - and let me say, it doesn't get any better. Villa Tropical is located steps away from Shacks Beach, a beach so stunning, I'm pretty sure I've seen it on postcards or desktops of computer screens. The beachfront condos themselves come with all the necessary amenities including a flat screen TV, grill and picnic tables and outdoor shower. The kitchens are also equipped with plates, pots, silverware and should you find yourself needing anything, the Villa Tropical staff are at your service, and they also provide a helpful guide in the apartment detailing where to go and what to do for just about anything - these guys know their stuff! We always have the greatest time snorkeling, paddle boarding, horseback riding and exploring the North Coast of Puerto Rico - don't miss out! read more

Stayed in B2 @Villa Tropical this March (2012) and it was awesome! The view is unreal, looking to the North @the Blue Hole Reef on Shacks Beach...plus, you have NO neighbors to the East and you get a breeze that cools you down all day & night! Come with a large group & take over the whole house (B1 downstairs is a 2/1 and B2 is upstairs, 2/1 as well). Full kitchen (only small toaster oven), so you can stock your fridge and hang all day & night. One NOTE: make sure to get cleaning supplies from main house- it gets sandy!! This house isn't the newest (1970's style) that Villa Tropical has to offer, but it's really the best spot on Shacks Beach. read more

Bienvenidos a paradise!! Villa Tropical is nestled right on the beautiful Shacks beach in Isabela. We had the opportunity to stay in the 1 bedroom on the top floor and due to our late booking, we also spent a night in a 1 bedroom on the ground floor. The top floor is definitely the way to go..It's obviously more expensive but man, oh man is it worth it! The wall of windows facing the ocean and palm trees are just enough to melt away the city stress. The lovely decor and spacious shower don't hurt either. There's full size kitchen stocked with cooking utensils and nice add ons like a blender, coffee machine, etc.. You also have access to a grill downstairs. We actually went to the the local grocery store - the Econo- and got some staples and steak for a nice evening in. Now to the ground unit...First off the entire condo is immaculate. No sugar ants or bugs, which can be extremely unnerving. The ground unit is decent but has no frills. The t.v works, but isn't the large flat screen that we had upstairs..kitchen is functional, but no blender or charm. Everything is practical, not beautiful...but with that being said, the unit is literally steps away from the beach. So still a nice option. You can't go wrong with any unit in the Villa Tropical. The mgmt is also awesome. Trevor was full of great tips and island tidbits. AND actually lived in Bucktown for some years. No question..we'd go back in a heart beat. read more

I haven't stayed here, but I toured it after being bummed about at Villa Montana, which reminded me a little bit of that X-files episode where the people put the whirligig in their front yard and are then abducted by aliens. We looked at several units, all of which had kitchenettes. Very beachy. Rooms are nice but not luxurious. A TV in the main room, but not each bedroom, in most units. The beach seems safe; there's a grassy spot before the beach where kids can play safely. There seems to be a more luxurious unit with a hot tub if you want it. The owner is a nice Canadian guy who is really into coffee. I think they have free Wi-Fi. Anyway, it seems reasonable, and we will try it the next time we stay on the west side of PR. read more

A most unprofessional attendant on the phone that turned down my business for a midweek rental because of a two night minimum requirement that is not on the website, by the way. He went on to say that he would make no profit on a one night stay. Really? No profit versus small profit?? I intended to check out the facility to see if it is worth a future long term stay; so now you've lost several potential customers (plural). I don't recommend this hotel. read more

Villa Tropical is open - power, water, cleaned up beach and all! Just stayed here for five nights. Nothing in the area tops these affordable beachfront apartments located just steps from the sea. Full kitchens helps keep costs down for those who like to cook. Balconies with ocean views perfect for sunset drinks. Owners Trevor and Mike always available to give tourist info as needed but will also leave visitors on their own if solo exploration/quietude is more your style. Love! read more

I can not say enough wonderful things about Villa Tropical. My husband and I live in the states and wanted to elope in Puerto Rico. We found Villa Tropical through yelp and tripadvisor. We were a bit nervous planning everything, not having seen the location in person. The reservation and communication prior to our visit was very easy. They were quick in their responses and very kind and helpful. When we arrived, we couldn't believe our eyes.. it was absolutely perfect!! There was not one single thing I can list as a con. The private beach that they advertise... it really is a private beach. We maybe saw three people. The villa is very clean (and I'm a huge germaphobe so that's saying something). Shower.. Kitchen.. Great. There is a grocery store, beautiful restaurant, a little outside bar and horseback riding a short ride away (some even walking distance). They provide beach chairs that you can use during your stay. There's an outdoor shower you can rinse off before going back inside. We stayed in Villa Bajandas B2. It was just so great. The deck was huge and the view was amazing. We actually got married right on the deck. There was a 2nd higher deck with a lounge chair. We spent hours up there star gazing and enjoying the sound of the ocean and the cool breeze. When first arriving the staff in the office was so great in recommending things in the area for us to do. They were so sweet and even printed us out a map. I inquired about a massage therapist in the area and they gave me a great contact. The day before our wedding the massage therapist brought her table right to our villa and gave my husband and I each a wonderful massage for a very very reasonable price! The day of our wedding, the staff was so helpful in moving furniture on our deck and made sure we had everything we needed for our special day. Our trip was at the end of August, and in my opinion, the best time to go. The area was quiet, the beaches were empty and the water was still like bathwater. We are now coming up on our one year anniversary and we have nothing but amazing memories. Villa Tropical will continue to be a very special place to us and we are planning to make it our stay of choice for all future visits to PR. I could go on and on about our stay and about all the amazing things, but I think I've said enough... Just yes!! read more

Our apartment was well appointed, cool, clean, and ideally situated on the beachfront with an awesome ocean view! The staff was friendly and accommodating.
