Smashed Avo
Cindy R.

Such an adorable little place. Loved the set up and design. Their food options are great though they were a little slow. Had the Smashed Avo and it was delicious! Their Rocky Road milkshake was also very good (so sweet)!

Acai bowl

This is a busy little place inside and out that gives you that rustic kind of feel once you enter. When you sit down and order and receive your breakfast or brunch, it's obvious as to why it is the busy little cafe it is. I ordered the 5 & dime salmon bagel whilst my girlfriend ordered the acai bowl. The bagel was delicious although to eat it I had to deconstruct it so it wouldn't fall apart from my hands, too good to waste, the acai bowl although a little different to the traditional acai bowl we'd had in Hawaii, was still a good choice too. To top these off we had a salted caramel instashake. Boy was this a little glass mug of goodness, topped off with some fairy floss/cotton candy (depending on where you're from). All in all, a good little find and worth the visit if you're in the area!

This is what a cafe should be. I'm so in love with this spot I even got out of bed on a Sunday morning, left the dogs at home and came down for brunch. The owners here are cafe genius. You'll most likely remember them and their distinct style from Mama Bears in Flemington (which was sold in 2013). The cafe space is open, full of soft light and quirky bits and pieces. There's always something to catch the eye. Once again these boys have slammed out a bootylicous menu. Short and sweet with something to appeal to everyone. As well as the Naughtyboy bakery items. This session we had slow cooked pork belly in scrambled eggs and ricotta hot cakes. I'm sure that an angel made the hot cakes. Light and fluffy and thick of waistline. Topped with lemon curd and blackberries. To really put the cherry on top of the happiness cake they are serving up some amazing AllPress coffee. Such a solid house blend to have on offer. My only suggestion is to get down here now before the hipsters, MAMILs and yummy mummies with prams discover it.

Yummy benny hash

Another great Melbourne breakfast joint. Liked the location along Lygon street and that it wasn't in a high foot traffic area. Amazing menu with so much choice, great for those who have a sweet tooth! My friend and I both had the Hash Benny, so delicious very rich version on the classic eggs Benedict. Great coffee, speedy service and love that they cater to dogs 'their favourite customers' :). They highly advertise their 'instashake' (instagram worthy freak shakes) and was very tempted to try their Guest Flavour blackforest cake but was too full. Will definitely make the effort to return and try a instashake soon.

A new fav of mine. First and foremost the coffee was superb. It was the right temp (I am so over those who serve it 'warm'), strength and flavour. The food was excellent too. We ordered from the special board, mine: leek and potato soup, his: Moroccan eggs. Both were excellent options, the smokey flavour of the baba ganoush was lovely and the soup was thick and tasty. The staff were friendly and the place looked great. I'd recommend it anyone.

instashakes!!

I visited once so far but I'm already planning on when to go back and who I can take there and Hang with. It's a great cafe with great vibes. Service was fast and overall great, and there was space to comfortably chat without being elbow to elbow with Others. Pricing was also fair, and nothing crazy. I went for those instashakes/ monster shakes and it was great!! For $12 I had the choc & Nutella fudge brownie, the actual milkshake itself isn't unique or brilliant but it also wasn't bad, the toppings were what made the milkshake amazing with great textures and flavors. This place has a reputation for turning out really fresh and unique and great tasting dishes which was true for the buddha bowl I had which was great! Definitely worth a try at least once

The view into the cafe from the back table.

Hmm. Unfortunately I wasn't too impressed with Naughty Boy Cafe. I was greeted by a friendly staff member, before I met up with my friends who were already seated up the back. Due to the popularity of the place, our seating arrangement was at a large table shared with another group of people. Now here is where everything wasn't that stellar. My friends didn't get their coffees 20-30 minutes after they had ordered it until they followed up on it. As I'm not a big coffee drinker or enthusiast (I simply appreciate the caffeine effect), I'm not sure how much weight can be put behind my opinion. I found the coffee to be a bit too bitter for my liking, even after I spooned in a couple of sugars. The menu items certainly did look and sound delicious, but it took about an hour for us to get our food from the time we sat down. And again, we didn't get our ordered food until we asked a waitstaff about it. Between the three of us we had ordered the corn and zucchini fritters, the eggs benedict and eve's garden. The plates were visually appealing and we couldn't wait to tuck in! Unfortunately, my friend who had been here before commented that her eggs benedict weren't as good as her last experience. My eve's garden, which was a smorgasbord of vegetable purees, Japanese pumpkin pieces, decent slices of avocado and two poached eggs, was nice. I wouldn't say that I'd rave about it, but it was nice. A criticism though is that one oe of my poached eggs was hard, whilst the other was runny. The fritters seemed to have been the best dish out of them all. One thing which I appreciated from this cafe, which others don't tend to do, is that they split bills. There is a 1% surcharge if using the EFTPOS machine however. Overall, I had a very average experience at this cafe and I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. Sorry Naughty Boy, you were just a bit too naughty for my liking.

"I Just Want Some Eggs" with a side of bacon and mushrooms, the Pavlova Milkshake, and corn fritters with poached eggs
Gemma A.

I've been to Naughty Boy Cafe twice now, and both experiences have been pleasant. The first time I brought my dog along with me, and the staff were courteous enough to offer him some water, and I believe everyone at some point came out to give him a pat on the head. The pavlova milkshake I shared was gorgeous to look at, and not overbearing with fake syrups, and a sense of heaviness that other shakes can leave you with - especially being lactose intolerant. (I know, I know, I shouldn't) I chose "I Just Want Some Eggs" for brekkie because I was in that very mood and ordered it with a side of bacon (for the pup to behave) and mushrooms (for me) The second time I ordered the Naughty Boy which was to die for. The packed eggs were perfectly cooked, the bacon thick and cooked well, and I could have eaten a dozen of their mushrooms. The friend I visited Naughty Boy with this time decided on elaborate pancakes with a Fanta sorbet, burnt meringue, popping candy, syrup, and berries, but felt it was too sweet. As I took her there for an added birthday treat, I felt bad and traded with her, and would have to agree. It was definitely too much in terms of sweetness. There was nothing really to balance it out which was a bit of a let down considering what I started with. I've rated the cafe with four stars which may seem slightly surprising due to the pancakes, but the staff here are fabulous, and the food is good, hearty food that is well thought out (besides the tiny mishap) and I'll be back!

There are plenty of ways to be naughty at the naughty boy cafe. Here are a few ways: 1. Reserve a table in advance for brunch. Yes they accommodate groups as large as 30 2. take advantage of their free wi fi to post pictures on yelp 3. Indulge in one of their monster shakes I was part of a big group of 30 people for brunch on a Saturday morning. Despite the size of the group, service was quick and coffees and food arrived quickly. It got quite noisy but that was due to the sheer number of people. I forgive them for not making my mocha extra hot which I gulped down as soon as it arrived as it was delish. I forgive them for not bringing us share plates. My friend and I ordered the smoked salmon dish which came with potato croquettes, smoked salmon, asparagus, poached eggs and cheese. Some toast with it would have made it filling. The croquettes were crisp outside, soft on the inside, a delicious flavour of potato (not mushy). So perfect. And the salmon and beetrot relish went so well with it. I ordered the chicken pide which was quite disappointing. First of all - not a pide. It was a foccacia sandwich with dry rubbery chicken in it, melted cheese, tomato slices, shredded spinach, and some smashed avocado. Quite bland. And the chicken was awful. Didn't taste smoked. Neither did the crusty mozzarella. Aioli was nowhere to be found. The pancakes looked nice. Points for presentation. Waaay too many options on the menu.

Garden Goddess ( Wholegrain bread on bottom )
Hanna L.

Great lunch, however, the service was not up to par. We sat for about an hour until we received our main meal. It was nice to be served a delicious salted caramel milkshake while we waited. It was not the typical American milkshake with ice cream, thick and frozen, but instead a cold milk based. For lunch I had the garden goddess which was delicious with different types of hummus, quinoa, and vegetables. There were two pieces of bread on the bottom that were so amazing and flavorful. The only downfall were my overcooked poached eggs, which typically add creamy and runny yolk. My friends ordered the polenta special as well as the poached chicken salad, both good, but not as flavorful as other dishes i've had in the past.

There's a naughty boy in all of us.
H B.

Well well well, no wonder there's a queue on the weekends. Service is fantastically friendly and helpful. You can either get a naughty naught shake or a healthy naughty shake. The chef must have been a scientist in a past life coz they've got the combinations of flavours perfectly worked out to make your dish bursting with exquisite flavours but not over board. A must visit, come hungry as the dishes are generous.

Naughty Boy is well known for the insta shakes. I have previously visited Naughty Boy closer to it's opening month, of course to try all of their insta shakes. generous hearty dish with creative shakes. love it

We were warmly welcome when perusing the menu outside and opted for a table indoors. The staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. The decor is tasteful with black tables and solid white chairs. Their drinks menu is reasonable and we opted for a Pinot Noir and a Cab Sav, both of which were lovely. The food was delicious. We started with a dip - warm bread and three dips. We were offered more bread if we finished it before the dips, which we thought was a nice touch. For a main course, we chose a Paella Valencia and a risotto. There were three risottos available (chicken, duck & garlic prawn) and I went for the prawn. Servings were generous and the food was delicious. We couldn't get through it all and took our remainders home in Tupperware containers, offered by the table server. This being their first week, we were also offered complimentary desert, and we chose a slice of chocolate cake and ice cream. Divine. Nik@nicholson is the best new place to eat on this side of town. The slow cooked lamb shoulder with beetroot relish was everything I hoped for and more when I ordered it. The dessert was great too. The decor felt clean and crisp without being over the top or too edgy. Just comfortable. I've paid three times as much as this place cost me and walked away half as happy. At $30 for a shared entree, two mains and two desserts it's almost foolhardy to want to be wowed but we were. I know it was a special, but the quality and value was astonishing, honestly. If I lived nearby, I'd be a regular regular, for sure. My partner and I came back a few weeks later to see if we just got lucky but they served up more of the same. Delicious Food. Reasonably priced. I paid an extra $5 to get rib-eye with my lunch-time special and I have to say it was the best steak I've had in a while. Perfectly cooked. The cook and the wait staff seem genuine and deserve to make a go of it. I have no idea how busy it is at dinner but at lunch it was great and it is on my repeat visit list for sure. It's not silver service, so don't be confused by the 5 star rating I gave it and expect linen table cloths etc, but this place is an absolute gem nonetheless.
