Crikey. I've been to so many branches of Natwest recently, and the most recent of stores I have visited this one, on Market Place in Durham and on a more personal milestone this is my 9th Natwest store I've visited in little over a month. I've seen some good and some bad Natwest branches and sadly this is amongst the worst.
This bank doesn't have wheelchair access and is up a series of steps and despite having a "call for help button" sign, there is no button there, later I spoken to the manager and found out it was stolen.
There would be no way for a disabled person or someone who struggles with stairs to get in the bank or even let them know they are there, without speaking to a member of the public as the only telephone number given was for head office, and there was no staff doing a meet and greet.
Eventually, I spoken to the manager after quite a long wait who helped me pay some money in, she seemed really friendly and talked about the possibility of putting a ramp in the bank but the proposal being blocked by the council, and then the doorbell was robbed.
In my opinion, there needs to be some sort of way around this and for disabled people to be able to get into the store, as it is the bank and the only Natwest branch for quite a considerable distance, with no way for them even to signal they are at the branch without consulting to a member of the public is also a disgrace, but Natwest have promised me they are trying their best to make changes for this, the branch inside has decent facilities with paying in machine and along with the manager treating this in a serious manner with reasonable suggestions, seeming friendly, I feel this store just scrapes by the skin of the skin on its' teeth, a two star rating. read more
