Maintenance crew rates have risen so high that our annual bill has become unaffordable- $195/hr for a crew of 3. They come when there is a convenient time on their schedule and not when you want them, e.g., before holidays. Their bills include a lot of travel time and "hauling" fees, and no documentation of start and stop times for the work, which is always rounded to the half hour and seems to include lunch breaks. Quality of the work has gone down and the office has an attitude if you question any bills. We were a customer for many years and now have found garden help for a fraction of the price and a friendlier attitude. Suggest you look elsewhere. Strange that an organic gardening outfit, which started warm and fuzzy under Nancy's ownership has turned into a hard-nosed, overpriced business with an attitude under the new owners. read more

After completing a substantial hardscaping of our backyard last year where we installed an outdoor kitchen, pizza oven, patio and retaining wall, the last piece of the puzzle was to install landscaping. A friend had recommended Natureworks, and we met their landscape designer, Leslie, came by to discuss what we had in mind and was very engaged and enthusiastic about our visions After taking detailed measurements of the existing conditions, in a little over a week, Leslie came up with a plan that we loved. After signing off on the plan, they provided a very reasonable to quote to furnish and install all the plantings. The crew was neat and efficient and by 2pm of the same day, our backyard was transformed. We couldn't be happier. Natureworks is a very special nursery and a treasure for plant lovers. Every plant I have purchased there has thrived. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and has answered questions many times. Natureworks has installed and designed many parts of my gardens and they are brilliant . There is always something blooming and the design uses variety of colors, shapes, and textures. My mother, who is in her 70s, has been a regular and generous customer of Natureworks for many years, for the reason that it is an easy and well-stocked go-to for organic gardening supplies in the New Haven vicinity. Given that Natureworks professes to be an establishment that acts as a custodian of the earth and all its creatures, and is a distance from the nearest public facilities, one may imagine my shock when they denied my elderly mother access to a restroom under circumstances of some urgency. Not only did the staff create a health hazard for my mother, but when I described the dehumanizing nature of this denial to an employee, she offered no apology, and instead repeated ad nauseam that it was simply the policy, before leaning on COVID-19 restrictions as an excuse. This last-ditch effort to justify such an unconscionable response was laughable to the point of insult, given that not a single member of staff was wearing a mask on the premises. As a person who has worked the service sector for many years, I can understand the desire to keep a staff restroom free of the muck of the masses. However, while Natureworks may cater to its staff over its loyal clientele, and may not be legally required to offer relief to their customers, their refusal to provide bathroom access still constitutes an ableist, ageist failure. There is of course a very obvious solution to this problem, which is to place a port-a-potty in the parking lot for customer use. I sincerely hope that Natureworks will live up to their branding and do the right thing. read more

Natureworks employs very competent and helpful landscapers and gardeners- but beware - a simple job cost me over $700 (I had imagined it would amount to about $120). Their prices are outrageous and you will end up paying significantly more than comparable services. Highly recommend looking for other great landscapers and gardeners and not being ripped off. read more

The three stars is because obviously, the plants are great and healthy and they obviously know their stuff and care about the environment, so no fault there and if I was rating strictly on that, they'd get my full love. My problem is that over the several times (we're talking at least 6, maybe more) I shopped there this past spring/summer, not one employee asked if I needed help. None. 0. That's weird, no? A few years ago I was looking into being more 'green' and trying out some organic lawn care practices, and stumbled upon Natureworks web site.. Finally this year we made it out to their store. First thing you notice is it's a pretty small place in comparison to some other major commercial garden shops, and is in a somewhat residential area - blink and you miss the entrance. Parking lot is pretty small, but no big deal. They had a lot of interesting plants, organic grown vegetable plants, organic fertilizers and pesticides.. big 'shade' garden selection, which is what we were looking for. staff was super-helpful and friendly. we ended up getting a few plants and hopefully they like where we planted them. if you are looking for organic plants, shad plants, woodland plants, flowers, tress, shrubs, container gardens .. Natureworks is a good place to start. read more

I can't say enough good things about Natureworks...I love that they are committed to organic gardening and have such interesting plant selection. The staff are such gems, too -- very knowledgeable and welcoming. And to top it all off, they are teaching us all how to help Monarch butterflies thrive in our area...which plants help and the best ways to create a haven for them. They have had $420.00 of mine since April 26. Last email was June 3 stating the landscape design would be coming the next week. As of June 23 I have received nothing. No response to an email and a voicemail. I hired this company to support local businesses that have been thru hell. We have all been thru hell. I still want them to fulfill their contract because they are good. They could at least contact me with the truth. I think they owe me the courtesy of communication, since they do have over $300 of that money for things that they have not done. I don't even have a receipt that shows exactly how much was for what . read more

I am a most disappointed and annoyed prospective customer. I contacted Natureworks via their website, saying I was in need in landscape design and installation on my property, plus spring cleanup for my existing beds. Next day I received a personal email saying they would send me info on pricing and services. A week later with no info received, I telephoned the store and gave my info again to the receptionist. She said she was leaving a message for "Deb" and that I would be contacted. It is now 2 weeks later and no calls, emails, or snail mail has been received. I would be very reluctant to enter into a contract for any kind of service or purchases from Natureworks given their indifference to following up with me. read more

I've been going to Natureworks for several years now and have always found Nancy and her crew to be nothing but helpful. Nancy does have a slightly warped sense of humor and can come across as abrasive if you don't know her well. She and everyone else there is passionate about gardening and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to garden organically. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. read more

I love Natureworks. I have been going there for several years and I only wish I had started going there sooner. The staff is excellent and very knowledgeable. The quality of the plants is excellent. And you can get some great deals on the Thrifty Bench (50% plants and if you have 10 or more everything is 75%). They also have a punch card (or check in app) that prvides an award after a certain number of "check ins". Nancy, the owner is passionate about perennials, bulbs and gardening/gardening design and it shows in her business (30+ years in business). I have see her interact with her staff on numerous occasions and I have seen nothing but good natured ribbing or respectful conversations so I have no idea what another reviewer thinks they saw/heard (is someone too sensitive?) They have a weekly email newsletter that is long but very informative. I am not newbie gardener but I continue to learn from Nancy and her staff. When I shop at Natureworks I feel like I am visiting friends. The selection is wonderful and the staff is awesome (Diane, Amber, etc.~ sorry I cannot remember all the names). Love this place! It's not far from home (feel so lucky to have an Organic place nearby). One of the things that makes Natureworks stand out is the very knowledgeable staff and owner, Nancy. Their passion shines through and is very infectious. I've received lots of good advice on growing my own Organic garden. Tends to be a little pricey but I'm sure it's in line with other great quality products. They also have a newsletter that I've relied on for help with planting timetables, etc. Would highly recommend this local nursery. They have a lot packed in to a small space! read more
